Chapter 81

Susan pulled her daughter close and she placed her chin on Elise’s head. She was bigger and taller than Elise. “Can you just calm down, Honey?” She pleaded with Elise who had not stopped crying ever since they got into the lodge.

Elise was now sweaty, beads of perspiration lined up on her forehead while the back of her gown stuck to her in sweat. As Elise sobbed, her body whole shoke.

“Do you want us to talk about it right now?” Her mother asked in a calm voice. She had her arms wrapped around Elise’s small shoulders and she rubbed a finger down her back, turning it in circles.

Elise broke out into a loud wailing, “All I did was suspect that girl that had been clinging to him ever since they arrived at the party, Mum” she cried.

Her mother nodded in silence and pulled out a small, white handkerchief from her purse. Then, she leaned close to Elise an dabbed her face with the handkerchief.
