The rain grew heavier as Kaelen climbed out of the Abyssal Trench, navigating a maze of rusted iron ladders and dripping sewer pipes.

An hour later, he stepped into Sector 7—the lawless underbelly of Neo-Aethelgard.

Neon signs in jagged Japanese and Cyrillic script flickered through the steam rising from open street vents. Cybernetically enhanced bouncers guarded dark alleyways, while street vendors sold black-market Qi stimulants and unregistered weapons from iron stalls.

Pulling his hood low over his eyes, Kaelen adjusted the black face mask covering his jaw. The dark sword at his waist was wrapped in heavy burlap cloth to conceal its ominous violet glow, but even through the wrapping, he could feel its cold pulse humming against his hip.

He pulled up his system interface with a thought.

[CURRENT QUEST: RECLAIM THE STAR-FALL RAPIER]

[LOCATION: UNDERGROUND AUCTION HOUSE — SECTOR 7]

[TIME REMAINING BEFORE LOT 14 IS SOLD: 22 MINUTES]

Kaelen’s eyes grew icy. The Star-Fall Rapier. It was his mother's signature weapon—forged from rare meteoric iron that responded exclusively to high-grade elemental energy. Julian hadn't just taken it as a trophy; he was liquidating it through the black market to wash his hands of the Vance Clan's internal purge.

He turned down an alley marked by a glowing red neon viper logo. Two burly guards in heavy titanium-reinforced body armor stepped into his path, crossing their high-frequency stun batons.

"Pass, stranger," the guard on the left growled, his mechanical eye zooming in on Kaelen's face. "The Viper Syndicate's auction is invite-only tonight. High-society trash from the upper city are spending big money."

"I don't have an invite," Kaelen said, his voice deep and slightly raspy behind his mask.

"Then turn around before we turn your head into a—"

Kaelen didn't wait for the threat to finish.

He activated [Shadow Step].

Whoosh.

He blurred past the guards, appearing instantly behind them in the narrow hallway leading down to the basement. Before the guards could even turn around, Kaelen tapped the hilt of his wrapped sword twice against the backs of their necks.

A wave of concentrated shadow Qi surged into their bodies, instantly short-circuiting their cybernetic neural implants. Both guards collapsed to the concrete floor, unconscious.

[COMBAT EXECUTED: CLEAN TAKE-DOWN]

[EXP +40]

Kaelen pushed open the heavy steel doors at the end of the hall, stepping onto the upper balcony of a sprawling, amphitheater-style auction room.

The contrast was striking. Below him sat dozens of wealthy upper-city buyers wearing velvet suits and high-end silk, sipping expensive spirit-wine while black-market dealers presented stolen goods on a raised, bulletproof glass stage.

"...and moving on to Lot 14!" the auctioneer's loud, amplified voice echoed through the room.

Two servants carried out a long, velvet-lined mahogany box. Inside rested a sleek, silver rapier that radiated a faint, starlight-blue aura.

Kaelen’s breath hitched. Mother's blade.

"A rare, Master-tier artifact," the auctioneer declared, waving his hand grandly. "Forged from celestial iron, capable of channeling pure light Qi without energy decay. Starting bid: five million credit vouchers!"

"Six million!" a fat noble in the front row shouted, raising his electronic paddle.

"Seven million!" called out a woman wearing a silver mask.

Kaelen stood on the balcony, his jaw clenched tight beneath his mask. He had zero credits in his pocket. Buying it back was impossible.

"Eight million!" a young man's arrogant voice rang out from the VIP box directly across from Kaelen's balcony.

Kaelen froze.

Sitting in the plush leather booth of the VIP box was Victor Vance—Julian's chief lieutenant and the man who had personally held the steel blade against Kaelen's neck on the rooftop hours ago. Victor was drinking champagne, surrounded by bodyguard mercenaries.

"Eight million credits going once..." the auctioneer called out, raising his wooden gavel. "Going twice..."

Victor smirked, raising his glass in a mock toast toward the stage. "A fine addition to Master Julian's private collection."

Crack!

The marble railing of the balcony shattered as Kaelen's hand tightened into a fist.

[WARNING: HIGH-INTENSITY ENEMY TARGET DETECTED]

[TARGET: VICTOR VANCE — BRONZE-TIER 5 SWORDSMAN]

[QUEST REQUIREMENT: RECLAIM THE BLADE BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.]

Kaelen didn't hesitate. He unslung the wrapped black sword from his waist, tearing off the burlap cover in a single smooth motion. The pitch-black blade flared with a terrifying, suffocating violet aura that instantly filled the entire auction hall.

The air pressure in the room plummeted. Wine glasses shattered on tables below.

"What is that energy?!" someone screamed in the crowd.

"An attack! Security!"

Victor’s smirk vanished. He leaped to his feet, drawing his broadsword as his eyes locked onto the balcony above.

Kaelen stepped onto the broken ledge, his glowing violet eyes staring down at Victor through his black mask.

"Lot 14 is sold," Kaelen’s cold voice rang across the silent hall, echoing like thunder. "To the dead."

He leaped from the high balcony, diving straight toward the stage with his shadow blade raised for a killing strike.
