A transparent screen appeared right in front of it. Lyon recognised it immediately. He had seen it when he was at the brink of death.

He didn’t know the source or origin and it had made him question his reality and sanity but it was back.

[Way to go, Lyon Dwayne! Upon choosing the health option, your health is at 100%, your physical appearance has been upgraded and you have 100,000,000 USD in your account. This is the dawn of our adventure.]

“Wait a minute! Who are you? Why do you decide what happens in my life next?” Lyon demanded in angst and confusion.

[Your journey with me started the second you nodded to get your life saved. I am System X, assigned to an Operator that will help them achieve massive wealth, honour and fame as long as they carry out all the tasks allocated to them. Each time an operator completes a task as instructed, there is a rewards system in place for it. If an Operator fails to  complete a task or even commits a crime, his rewards will be deducted, in worst scenarios, the user will die.]

Lyon frowned upon gracing his eyes with this message, he could not accept the ridiculousness he was witnessing. A system? Is this some web novel ? Nothing about it felt real.

His data showed up on the screen and he read it out loud.

“Name - Lyon Dwayne.”

“Age - 30”

“Blood type - O+”

“Body health - 100%”

“Mental Health - 8%”

“Account balance - 100,000,000.00 USD”

“A hundred million dollars?” He chuckled out loud. He had checked his account balance after the system had appeared to him earlier. He only had 20 dollars in it.

This was the best way to confirm if he was really going crazy or this was real, he reached for his cell phone in his pocket. Checking his mobile app was the only way to check if this madness was real, after all, he knew the right amount in it.

He had not even received his salary before he passed away, that was why he had only $20 before he took the cab to the Villa. He opened his bank account and his eyes almost popped out of their sockets when he saw the numbers.

“$100,000,000.55.” he called out. He rubbed his eyes aggressively, and checked again. The money was there.

[Congratulations, you have fully integrated yourself with System X. The money is at your disposal.]

“Can I really use this money for anything?” Lyon asked to confirm if his hearing was okay.

[Yes, and when Operators complete their tasks or do good deeds, there is a money reward for it.]

“Good deed? Does giving up my seat for an elderly person count?” He asked.

[That is a strong good deed, but keep in mind that the stronger the good deed, the higher the reward you will get. Over time, you will know which good deed to perform. Your tasks will also surface subsequently.]

Lyon was gobsmacked, making money was now very easy and the pay was very high.

At least if he hadn’t gotten paid yet, he could tell from the first deposit he had gotten that his pay would be way higher than the 1,200 USD he was earning monthly at the Jameson’s Villa.

It would be crazy to earn even a dollar for helping someone for a menial task like giving up his seat for an elderly person or helping a blind person to cross the road.

But the system had thrown this opportunity at him. It would be foolish for anyone to give up such a peaceful and convenient opportunity . Especially when his last job had him working nearly twenty-four hours a day.

There were even times that his former boss, Gun Jameson would throw parties that would last days and yet he had to stay awake throughout with no bonus pay for it.

“What task do I have now?” he asked, again.

[Launching the task box. There is no task available at the moment.]

It was time for Lyon to accept that this was his reality and move on. He minimized the screen using the button at the top-right corner of the transparent screen.

“System X,” he said to himself.

[Welcome back, Operator Lyon!]

The transparent screen showed up in  his face, he minimized it. Now he knew how to summon the system on his own.

He didn’t know the origin of this system or what it wanted from him but it had saved his life and even given him money plus a job that involved completing tasks. He could only hope that the job was not as tedious as his job at the Jameson Villa.

Thoughts of what he could spend the hundred million dollars and fifty-five cents in his account on started pouring into his head. He could finally get an ocean view penthouse, his dream truck and dream SUV, new clothes and….

“Grrrr!” A rumble erupted from his stomach, he needed to find somewhere to eat.

He suddenly craved some steak and a drink. Lyon wondered“whether this had anything to do with his new physique.

He stripped his clothes off and then took a shower. He went into the room he once shared with Racheal but this time, he was devoid of any emotions.

After grabbing important documents like his ID and other certificates, he changed his clothes and left the apartment.

He walked out of the apartment building and took a cab to one of the most expensive steakhouses. Usually, he used to eat meat at the local barbeque shops but they would be closed at this time of day, the best place to find high quality steak was always open.

He knew this because sometimes, Gun used to ask to drive him there in the middle of the night.

Lyon had never gotten the chance to enter the place before but tonight he was going to enter that place on his own and spend his own money there. He had never felt excitement about food like that in a while.

Racheal first heard Lyon's name from the television. She had been sitting in the living room, barely paying attention to the business news while scrolling through her phone, when Gun's face appeared on the screen. Then Gun made the statement that changed everything: he publicly identified the mysterious investor as Lyon Dwayne.Racheal's phone slipped from her hand. For several seconds, she simply stared at the television."Lyon..."The name escaped her lips like a whisper. She had spent days convincing herself that Kate must have been mistaken. Lyon spent the entire night studying the information Paul had gathered about Jameson Holdings. He had learned his lesson from Northstar Logistics. Having money was useful, but throwing money at every problem would only make him predictable. Gun had attacked one of his businesses expecting Lyon to respond emotionally, and Lyon had nearly fallen into the trap. This time, he would not attack Gun where Gun expected him to. He would find the weakest point in Gun's empire and strike where the damage would be impossible to ignore.Paul stood beside the desk, scrolling through several reports."Boss, I've mapped out most of Jameson Holdings' recent acquisitions."Lyon looked up. "Which one is the most vulnerable?"Paul hesitated. "Meridian Industrial.""Tell me about it.""Gun acquired controlling interest in the company about eighteen months ago. It's one of his biggest acquisitions outside the energy sector."Paul brought up the company's financial information."Meridian owns several man

  • Chapter 44

Gun Jameson had spent the better part of the afternoon staring at the financial reports on his desk, trying to understand how his carefully planned takeover of DwayneTech had suddenly become so complicated. Every move he made seemed to encounter an invisible obstacle. Suppliers he had relied upon were suddenly controlled by unfamiliar investment companies, portions of DwayneTech's debt had disappeared into anonymous hands, and now several of his own business partners were demanding explanations. He had initially blamed Richard, then the mysterious investors, but the more he investigated, the more one name kept appearing in the background.Lyon Dwayne.Gun picked up a file containing Lyon's old employment records and compared it with the financial reports. The contradiction was ridiculous. The man had supposedly been a security guard.Yet somehow, he had appeared at an elite business gathering, purchased a company Gun had wanted for years, acquired portions of DwayneTech's debt, and

The warning from the mysterious sender kept replaying in his mind, but it wasn't the threat itself that bothered him. It was the reference to family secrets. Someone connected to DwayneTech clearly knew he was investigating, and whoever they were had enough access to know exactly what he was looking into. By morning, Lyon had made his decision: before following another financial trail, he needed to speak directly with Richard.Richard was already in his office when Lyon arrived at DwayneTech. The older man looked exhausted, with several reports scattered across his desk and an untouched cup of coffee beside him. The pressure of the hostile takeover was clearly beginning to take its toll. When he saw Lyon walk in without an appointment, he immediately understood that this wasn't going to be an ordinary visit."You look serious," Richard said."I am."Richard gestured toward the chair."Sit."Lyon remained standing for a moment before taking the seat opposite him."I need you to tell

"Boss, I think I've found something," Paul said.Paul had been working on Victor Hale's financial records for most of the night. The executive had been careful, but not careful enough. Every payment Victor received had been routed through legitimate-looking consulting firms and investment companies, making the transactions appear ordinary on the surface. However, Paul had learned that money always left a trail, no matter how many times someone tried to disguise it.Lyon looked up from his laptop."What is it?"Paul turned his screen toward him."The payments to Victor, Marcus, and Daniel aren't coming from Gun directly."Lyon's expression hardened."I already suspected that.""I know. But I followed the trail further."Paul opened another set of documents."All three payment streams eventually connect to the same private investment company."Lyon leaned forward."What company?""Blackridge Capital Partners."The name meant nothing to Lyon."What do they do?""Private investments. What he didn't know was that Lyon had spent the previous night preparing a move that would completely change the balance of power.Lyon sat across from Paul in the private office of one of his newly established investment companies. Several reports were spread across the table, detailing DwayneTech's suppliers, distributors, manufacturing contracts, technology licenses, and logistics partners.
