Chapter 9: Selene Mirevault

“What…” Selene looked at Kael angrily now, her patience already beginning to disappear.

“Do you even know what two point one million dollars means?” she asked while staring at him coldly.

The surrounding people immediately began whispering again.

“Who exactly is this guy? He keeps increasing the price without hesitation?”

“Two point one million dollars is not a joke.”

One middle-aged man who was also seeing everything frowned.

“Is he even aware that if he wins the bid and fails to pay, he could end up in jail?”

Selene took a slow breath before looking at Kael again, at this point, she was already starting to feel irritated, not because of the money, but because this ordinary looking man kept challenging her in front of everyone.

Her pride simply could not accept it, then she turned back toward the staff lady calmly.

“Two point three million dollars,” she said.

The moment those words came out, the crowd instantly became noisy again.

“She increased it again?”

“Oh my God…”

“As expected of the Mirevault family.”

Several people looked at Selene with admiration while others looked at Kael curiously, wondering if he would still continue.

Kael looked at Selene quietly after hearing her increase the amount again.

“Increasing the price little by little is just wasting my time,” he said bluntly. Then, without any hesitation, he raised his head.

“Three million dollars.”

Boom!

Selene’s eyes widened instantly, this time, even she was truly stunned.

“Three million?” she repeated inwardly in disbelief.

The entire hall went dead silent. Selene’s eyes widened instantly. This time, she was truly stunned. Three million dollars for a necklace? That was insane. Even though her family was wealthy, spending five million dollars on a piece of jewelry was way past her limit.

The beautiful staff lady behind the counter also looked shocked now. The surrounding people became even more stunned.

“This guy is insane…”

“He’s seriously claiming he can pay three million dollars just for a necklace?”

The beautiful staff looked toward Kael again, this time, her expression had become serious.

“Sir, let me warn you. If you win this bid and fail to pay, Elythrine Galerie will report you to the police immediately. You will face heavy fraud charges, financial penalties, and real jail time.”

The surrounding people immediately nodded after hearing that.

“That’s true, this place isn’t some ordinary jewelry store.”

“Trying to fake wealth here is a serious problem.”

But Kael did not look bothered at all. He had 5.1 billion dollars in his pocket. Five million was like a drop of water in the ocean to him.

A cold smirk appeared on Selene's beautiful face.

“Since he wants to compete with me just to boost his silly ego, I’ll stop bidding and let him suffer the consequences himself.” she thought inwardly.

The moment she imagined Kael getting dragged away in embarrassment after failing to pay, her anger eased slightly.

The beautiful staff lady looked toward Selene carefully before asking respectfully.

“Miss Mirevault, do you wish to continue bidding?”

Selene slowly turned her eyes back toward Kael again, this time, she was genuinely angry.

If looks alone could kill, Kael would probably have dropped dead already from the way she was staring at him.

For the first time in a long while, someone had embarrassed her publicly like this. After a few seconds, she suddenly let out a cold faint laugh.

“Competing with a nobody like you is a waste of my time. You do not have the status to stand next to me. I just hope you can actually pay. I will not stay here to watch a beggar get arrested.”

The surrounding people stayed quiet after hearing her words.

“I just hope you'd be able to pay, which I'm sure you wouldn't be able to, so no need to stand here and watch you being handcuffed.’

Right after saying that, she turned around immediately and walked away from the area.

“Miss Mirevault left! He actually won the bid!” the crowd whispered.

But no one looked at Kael with respect, they only looked at him with pity, thinking he was ruined.

“I hope he can pay. From 1.8 million to 3 million...” One man shook his head.

“That was just an easy bonus for the store because of his pride.”

“Exactly, all because of pride.”

Meanwhile, the lady looked back toward Kael again with a stern expression.

“Congratulations sir, you are now the winner of the Moonveil Seraph Necklace bid, how would you like to make the payment?”

Kael felt slightly happy hearing that he had won the Moonveil Seraph Necklace, after all, this was the very first truly expensive gift he had ever bought for Lyra.

“At least I’ve finally gotten something valuable for Lyra,” he muttered softly to himself.

“This necklace alone is probably worth more than everything the Voss family has ever spent on me combined.”

Thinking about that, he slowly put his hand into his pocket and grabbed the matte black card Vaeric Solthane had given him earlier.

The surrounding people were all watching him closely now, curious to see what he actually wanted to do.

Was he truly going to pay?

Or was he about to embarrass himself publicly?

Kael was about to bring the card out, but just at that moment,

“Kael Draven?” A surprised female voice suddenly sounded from behind him.

Instantly, he turned around and saw the person standing there, he frowned lightly.

A slim young lady was standing not too far away with a handbag hanging around her shoulder. She wore a fashionable short coat over a fitted dress while her makeup and appearance looked clean.

Kael recognized her almost immediately.

“What is she doing here?” he thought inwardly.

Her name was Talia, she was not directly connected to the Voss family, but she happened to be a close friend of one of Lily Voss’s own friends.

A few months ago, she once visited the Voss villa together with that friend and happened to see Kael there back then. Naturally, she also knew about the famous “live-in son-in-law” situation of the Voss family.

At that moment, Talia herself also looked genuinely surprised after recognizing Kael, her eyes quickly moved around the luxurious Elythrine Galerie before returning back to him again. Clearly, she never expected to see someone like Kael in a place like this.

“Kael Draven? What are you doing in a place like this?”

Kael forced out a small smile after seeing Talia, he was just about to speak when one of the people nearby suddenly stepped forward quickly.

“You mentioned his name, that means you know him, right?”

The man pointed toward Kael. “Is he actually rich? Because this guy just won a three million dollar bid to buy a necklace.”

“What?! Three million dollars?” Talia screamed in shock then, she burst out laughing.

“Are you guys stupid? This guy is Kael Draven! He is the penniless live-in son-in-law of the Voss family! He does laundry and cleans floors! He doesn't have a single dime!”

The moment those words came out, the surrounding people immediately became shocked.

Talia pointed a finger at Kael, mocking him bluntly. “Even the Voss family cannot waste three million dollars like this! He is a total fraud! Call security right now!”
