Emily's throat clustered. Dry and itchy. She was the only one who could see the injustice that was being done here. Her being stumbled over herself, and her mouth quivered. "Grandma!" She called out, unable to stand the weight that was clustering her heart.
"Is there a problem again? Emily?" Lady Kate's frown was heavy.
"First, Grandma, that wasn't called for. Where is he going to stay?" She forced the words from her throat, almost causing her to choke.
No one had dared to talk to Lady Kate in such a manner in a very long time.
However, Lady Kate's expression remained calm and subtle. "On the street, of course. Where he belongs."
It was obvious that Lady Kate had already made up her mind. A deep sigh sped into Emily's lungs. There was nothing she could do now. "And Archie? You never explained giving him the project when he is not a member of this family?" He added.
"If you must know, this family has made a decision that you will be getting married to Archie soon enough since you will be divorcing Edwin."
The words immediately made Emily fall back in her steps. A wave of cold sipped through from her legs and ran through her spine.
"You cannot do that. You cannot make me get married to someone that I don't even like!" Her face grew hot red, and her words shook.
Lady Kate stepped forward. Vicious intentions filled her steps as she ran her hands through the hair of Emily.
"Don't make me look like the villain here, Emily. It's the family's rule. If a member doesn't earn at least 10 million dollars yearly for three consecutive years, then they would be disowned by the family. If they were married into this family, after the dissolution of the marriage, the family would choose someone appropriate, such as a member of the family, should get married. It's the rule, and I didn't set them, Emily!"
She could barely hear any further words as they sank deep into her mind. There was just a month left until their family anniversary. How could they come up with a sum of thirty million dollars?
A gulp was stuck in her throat just at the thought of it. And staring at the evil looks in the eyes of the person standing right before her, it was obvious that it had all been planned out right from the very beginning.
"But Edwin, he has been working for the family without asking for a dime. You can't abandon him now after using him?" Emily's voice broke multiple times before she could even complete the statements.
Lady Kate shook her head and said. "Move on, Emily. You're a beauty and shouldn't waste that on a wasted man!"
...
Meanwhile, despite his nerves screaming danger, Edwin stood still, his shoulders straightened, and his face straight.
A group of men, all in the back, sped off from the car. Their faces grim and scarred, giving them the look of thugs.
Their leader, a bulky middle-aged man with heavy bones and golden teeth, stepped forward, his face dripping with ruthlessness. "Who are you?" Edwin inquired calmly.
"I will be the one asking the questions around here. And the only thing that you need to know is you're coming with us!" His assessing gaze sped off from Edwin's head to toe, and he could feel the bile rising in his throat.
Dan scoffed. 'What a waste of time!' He thought.
Edwin was dressed as a poor cook. His face was tired. And his hair was scattered all over the place. Not forgetting that he looks underfed.
It seemed as though they were throwing free money at him. Cause there was no reason to hire kidnappers for someone who was already looking hopeless.
Dan wanted the job done quickly. "Didn't you just hear what I said?" He barked at Edwin, his saliva splattering all over the place.
"Come with us right this instant!"
"First, you come to me in the most unruly manner. No former introduction, and you want me to come into the car with you? For what? A vacation? No, I can't!" Even though Edwin's face remained almost expressionless, the way his brows moved told a lot of stories.
He brushed past the shoulders of Dan. Dan's eyes widened. His face turned red, and a green vine popped on his neck.
Even for high-status persons, no one had ever treated him with this much indifference. Not when he was the boss of the underworld.
A frown cuts through his face. He tried calming himself with a breathing pattern. "If you don't want the vacation to be done in hell, you will get into that car right now. Treat this as a request, and you will be as good as dead."
His control of his anger was gradually slipping back into him. His stare bored right through the back of Edwin.
Still backing the Mafia boss, Edwin shook his head, his gaze falling. "I'm sorry. But I don't take orders from anyone except myself!" Edwin ended, placing his feet back into motion.
That was the straw that broke his back. He wasn't going to allow anyone to treat him with this much disrespect and go scot-free.
With just a switch of his eyes, he got the rest of the dozen members of the guards to surround Edwin, blocking his path.
Edwin turned around towards Den with an expression that darkened. "What's the meaning of this?" He inquired, and the expression on his face grew darker and heavier by the minute.
But as members from the underworld, they had seen far worse than this, too, he stuttered. "Seems you want your ass whooped. I'm going to grant you that request today before handing you over!"
"Careful, young man. So that you don't end up being the one getting their ass whooped instead!" He returned.
The whole of Dan is broke. He could not stand it anymore as the blood bubbled up in his veins. "Break him into shreds. Don't hold back. I want to hear those bones cracking!" He ordered with a hint of viciousness on his face.

Meanwhile, at the other part of the city, Vivian's assessing gaze cuts through from the head of Edwin's down to his throat, her legs tapping slightly on the floor with so much disgust. "Clara!" She called out, her voice trying to hide the disrespect in it."Are you sure that you aren't making a terrible mistake? I mean, just take a look at him. Is this the person who is supposed to help us from our recent predicament?" She hissed, still staring at Edwin from head to toe."Vivian. There aren't any mistakes here! I can tell you that I saw for myself what he is capable of!"Vivian shook her head in utter disapproval. There definitely could not be anything good in this person, who was dressed as a common cook and nothing more. "The only thing that I think he is good at is being broke and poor, Clara! We should send him away already!"Clara frowned deeply. She hates it when anyone disrespects her guests. And this time, it wasn't just any guest; it was the one who was supposed to rescue the
