The Supreme Edwin James Revenge

Cheerful laughter erupted from the center table. James's family dinner was filled with pleasant comments. Smiles graced the faces of most people, and comments of pleasantries filled the air.

Until Edwin walked in, a tray filled with drinks was carefully balanced in his hands. The temperature in the room dropped, and the mood turned sour. 

The sight of him alone was enough to stir up a bitter sensation in their throats. "It seems as though he is growing even more pathetic every day."

"I still perceive his stink from this distance."

"How did he even get married to the beautiful Emily?" Another asked.

"I heard he sought the help of a sorcerer, somehow."

"But that isn't going to last long. Lady Kate will be breaking off the wedding arrangements today!" They murmured to each other, their faces twisted with disdain.

Edwin had done nothing wrong to any of them. The only thing that he had done wrong was loving Emily and getting married to her while serving the family.

Even though he wasn't rich and was on the street, marketing his designs in a small shop, when Emily met him, he now worked with the design division of the James family co-operation, which featured mainly in providing modern devices for everyday use.

Serving the family through the year with his ideas and his wit, almost turned into a servant. 

The only reward that he has received is their growing hate and scorn from the Jamess

Despite he could feel multiple eyes chipping into his skin from behind, Edwin ignored all of them, his eyes clinging to those of Emily. Her head bowed in shame. She didn't dare to say a word or get roasted.

When he was done, there was no space for him in the family meeting, so he had to stand as always, until Lady Kate made her entrance.

The room immediately grew solemn. Their stare attention firmly placed on the chair lady of the James family, co-operation. "Today we will be talking about the new device that our family has created!" A little machine was featured on the screen immediately after she punched the remote.

"This device, designed mainly for single users, can sense when a person is in danger and  send signals to them and other security agents nearby within seconds."

A round of applause erupted from the hall. At a time when the world was gradually heading into a third world war, and companies were already in an industrial war, trying to overturn each other by every means possible.

With the killings and the kidnaps happening recently, while the government was focusing on the terrorist groups all around, this was a breakthrough. "Thanks." She said, only to end the applause in the hall that swallowed up her speech.

"This design is still in the rough stage. There's still a lot of work to be done. And to head this design." 

Anticipation hung in the air. Hearts were constricted. And breaths were held right in place.

Whoever would be chosen to head this project would most likely become the next chairperson of the family after the death of Lady Kate.

The family had been facing a lot of crises lately. And this project would determine if they would crumble totally or not. "Archie!" She announced.

A wave of shocks ran through the hall. Causing throats to run dry and itchy. Nobody dared to object to the proposal.

Not just because of the respect and authority that was held by Miss. Kate. But also due to the power that this Archie held.

From where he stood watching the rollout of events, Edwin's gaze fell in utter disappointment.

He had worked so hard for the project, yet he didn't get it. A sigh escaped from his lips. He wanted this for Emily, to give her the chance to head the family one day as she had always done.

It wasn't new to him that the family hated him because he wasn't rich. However, he thought that just this time, he might act with common sense. How stupid for him to think that. 

Emily sprang from her seat. A strand of nerves cuts through her face. Her eyes interlocked with those of Miss. Kate. "Do you want to excuse yourself for a pee?" Lady Kate inquired, her tone grieved and stale.

"Grandma. You can't do this. We all know how hard  Edwin had worked so much for this project.

He came up with the design and the idea. Would it be right to give someone else's design to another person who has nothing to do with it?

And besides, Archie is just a family friend and not a member of this family. How can he head out of the project?"

Murmurs filled the hall. Scorns and hateful comments flew left and right. "Are you out of your mind, Emily? Saying that this scorn should head the family's biggest project when he cannot even feed himself!" Emily's cousin, Jeet, spat out.

"I'm sure that he is even lying about coming up with the design!" Jerry added.

"Just look at him closely, do you think anything good can come from him?" Another said.

Their hateful words cut through skin and bone. A frown creased into the face of Emily. Their hate for Edwin had eventually blinded their sense of reasoning.

Lady Kate's raised hands brought a calm to the hall, her stare boring right into that of Emily. "How dare you even bring up his name here. For three straight years, we have been feeding him. He has added nothing to this family. Not even a penny, and who said he owns the design? He stole it!"

A gasp filled the hall, hearts raced, and their hands were crossed across their mouths as a wave of shock ran through the hall. "I said it. Making us believe that it was all his!"

"It was stolen in the first place. Didn't realize that he could stoop to such a pathetic level to be stolen!"

"Why would you say I stole it?" Edwin kept his calm as he asked with a straight face.

"Because Archie said so.  You stole it from him!"

Another bang, second only to the Big Bang theories, hits the hall. "Why should we believe him? For all we know, he might be trying to discredit Edwin."

"Discredit!" The burst of Lady Kate's laughter filled the hall.

"Why would Archie want to do such a thing!" Her gaze grew stale, dripping with coldness. "And for that, you will be punished by Edwin. We are not raising thieves here!"

"You can't do that, Grandma!"

"Enough!" Lady Kate sounded clear. Even though she was already getting old, the authority in her voice as the chairlady of the corporation shot through the crowd and brought Emily to a halt.

She bowed her head instantly, even though her hands clenched tightly and her teeth ground against itself. "Edwin, you're displaced from the family Villa to think about your life for three days!" She muttered.

The guards who were around immediately stepped forward. Emily's cheeks were puffed out, threatening to break out as she could no longer hold back the pain.

It was like a sting in her heart. Edwin, as always, wished for her to have the best life could offer. But that seemed to be the direct opposite goal of the Jamess.

Edwin shook off the guards, reaffirming his promises. Without being pummeled, he made his way off the halls and the Villa of the James family into the cold street.

His nose caught up with the fresh night air and breeze. It's been such a long time since he could enjoy this much comfort. And I wished he could enjoy this for a long time with Emily.

The family hated him so much, but it was only due to his help that the small company that could barely survive without debts piling up was doing well now.

He shook his head at home, a greedy man could be. At least he still had the love of Emily to keep him going.

However, his comfort was soon interrupted. His nerves tightened as the earth under his feet shook. "Five cars!" He counted as they cornered him from every side.
