A lady stepped forward swiftly. Even with the urgency in her steps, her boobs were floating in her steps.
Her skin was sleek. And her height was that of a model. The fine specimen of a woman.
Edwin averted his eyes; he had a wife. "Please don't kill him. Please pardon them!" She pleaded, her voice sleek and smooth.
However, Edwin shot a poker gaze at her. Keeping his renowned expressionless look. "Who are you?" He inquired quickly, his gaze assessing her while keeping away from the places that he had no business with.
She didn't look like she was one of them. And even though people could turn out to be very different from their outlook, she didn't act rogue, and his senses told him that she had nothing to do with them. "I presume you are not one of them, so who are you?"
She was staring deep into Edwin's face, and his words snapped her out of her thoughts. "I'm Lady Whyte Clara. Heiress of the Whyte family!" She revealed.
The name sounded familiar. Different from the context that it was supposed to be.
The Whyte had been before even the city was laid. One of the oldest and most knowledgeable families in history.
They were also among the top five families in the city. Until lately, their family had been facing troubled waters due to the industrial war, which, from statistics, would soon throw them off their age-long status. "And you're?"
"Not important!" Edwin brushed off her question.
"What do you want with me? I'm married!" He informed me.
Unlike other people, her face didn't shift. Of course, Miss Whyte was beautiful and was single.
Most people have always craved her. Both the rich and the poor. Some even use her image to masturbate. There was one time when it was on the news.
Even though she didn't show the looks on her face, her insides clamped against each other, and her skin burned red.
This was going to be the first time that someone was rejecting her even before she asked.
For a very unthinkable reason, when married, when chasing her the most. "I'm not here for that, Mr. Edwin!" It was obvious she already knew the name even before she asked.
She must have done some background checks on him. "Please, I need."
Edwin stopped her from saying further. Beckoning to her to stand up. She obeyed, and they sat inside one of the cars to have a formal discussion.
"I have two questions for you. First, do you have anything to do with those guys?" He didn't have to point at them. Lady Whyte already knew the set being referred to.
Even though she tried to hide her emotions and fears and act composed, a dry lump went down her throat.
She nodded her head, shaken to her bones. "Sadly. My sister sent them to get you. But I tried telling them to treat you with respect. I guess that they thought that was me being sarcastic.
For being here. I followed them from behind, hiding away from the public because I thought something might go wrong."
"And you were right on time!" Edwin's mood deepened. It was hard for the information not to cause a shift in his emotions, especially when these people had tried to kill him.
"So what do you want from me?" Inquired Edwin with a grieved look on his face.
Miss. Whyte pushed, thinking over the words in her head again and again. "You know, everyone knows our company is having issues. There is a traitor we have been finding hard to track, people are getting sick, and others quitting their jobs out of fear or threats, I don't know. All I know is that I was informed that you will be able to help us!" She ended.
Edwin's mood didn't change. His hands were now crossed over his chest, and the heat in the car despite the AC increased. "And in what way do you need my help?"
Once again, Clara paused before answering his questions, making sure that she wasn't making any mistakes. "I was informed that you are versatile. And will surely be able to help. I believe in the person who recommended you, and I believe in you also!"
Edwin nodded his head. Clara thought that she was making progress. Her mood lightened a little bit, but her breath was still held in anticipation.
Her hands folded into each other. This was her last hope. "I'm sorry. But I have no help to offer. Even if I do, I don't want to!" Replied Edwin.
It struck Clara to the core. Her feet froze to the ground, and the whole of her body grew numb.
Edwin didn't care. As long as he had passed the message that he wanted to, he stepped out of the car, ready to leave the place.
A long time ago, he had sworn that he was going to stay away from the affairs of this world. He wanted to settle down and have a happy life with the one who had saved his life, and that was exactly what he planned on doing.
He had barely gone a few miles when the earth started shaking right under his feet.
It wasn't as fast a walk as before. This time, Clara was running, and Edwin could hear the breath gushing from her lungs. He frowned deeply, turned around, and his gaze interlocked with hers. "What do you want this time?"
"If you have high hopes that you will be able to change my mind. I'm sorry, but you'd better start heading back!"
Clara's feet remained rooted to the ground, and her eyes filled with determination as she brought an emblem from her bag.
Her breath was heavy, but she didn't stop. She projected the emblem right on Edwin's face, just where he could have a proper view of it. Beads of sweat dripped down from the corner of her face.
"You made an oath to help us if we need anything. If we are in trouble. This is the time to do so, and you can't run away from your responsibility. Not now!" Her eyes flashed, and so did Edwin's.

Without a hint of emotion, Edwin pointed off towards a man on an apron and a bucket. He was the cleaner and had just arrived after he heard the news of the stranger and his mother, Madam Grace, being evicted from the Villa. Meanwhile, at the other part of the city, Vivian's assessing gaze cuts through from the head of Edwin's down to his throat, her legs tapping slightly on the floor with so much disgust. "Clara!" She called out, her voice trying to hide the disrespect in it."Are you sure that you aren't making a terrible mistake? I mean, just take a look at him. Is this the person who is supposed to help us from our recent predicament?" She hissed, still staring at Edwin from head to toe."Vivian. There aren't any mistakes here! I can tell you that I saw for myself what he is capable of!"Vivian shook her head in utter disapproval. There definitely could not be anything good in this person, who was dressed as a common cook and nothing more. "The only thing that I think he is good at is being broke and poor, Clara! We should send him away already!"Clara frowned deeply. She hates it when anyone disrespects her guests. And this time, it wasn't just any guest; it was the one who was supposed to rescue the

She was startled. Grace had been serving the Whyte family right from when she was a child, and thus, she was the longest-serving servant.Nobody had ever dared to talk back to her.
