Chapter 1: System Activates

Chapter 1

On a sofa in the living room, there sat a young man with a miserable look. His expression was dark and bitter. This young man was named Daniel Cowell.

Daniel Cowell had suffered a serious heartbreak.

“To you, Sophia……”

He raised the bottle of beer he had been drinking for the past few minutes and gulped again. The liquid rushed down his throat.

“Congratulations on finding someone far better than me,” Daniel uttered with a hurting smile. “I’m sure he’ll give you everything I couldn’t.”

As he muttered those words, memories of the betrayal he had been served, resurfaced, cutting through him. His chest tightened with anger and he tightened his grip on the beer bottle.

Just at that moment, Daniel’s phone lit up.

Snapped out of his misery, Daniel whipped his phone out of his pocket with one hand while still holding the bottle with the other.

Glancing down at the screen, Daniel frowned heavily. He had expected something else entirely, but the screen showed a notification asking him to d******d and play a game.

“What nonsense!” Daniel complained angrily, clearly frustrated. “I thought it was payment from the construction site I’m working at.”

Daniel was about to discard his phone to the side when he suddenly stopped. “Since my life is already worthless with nothing to do, maybe I should just d******d this game and play it.”

Comforting himself with that, Daniel downloaded the game with the last megabytes he had in his phone and started playing the game. Playing the game absentmindedly, Daniel’s eyes began to close, and unconsciously he fell asleep, his phone slipping from his grip and falling on the ground.

Morning came too quickly.

The sun streamed into the room through the curtains.

Daniel’s eyes slowly opened, and he groggily sat up.

[Congratulations, Host! You passed the test last night!]

Daniel furrowed his eyebrows in surprise as he stared at the floating screen in front of his eyes. His gaze shifted, and he glanced around the room, only to find himself alone in his small apartment.

“Am I imagining things?” he mumbled and continued to stare at the screen.

[Does the Host wish to log in to see his reward?]

Daniel was puzzled. However, after hesitating, he subconsciously replied in a low tone. “Yes, log in.”

[Ding! Login successful!]

[Congratulations, the Host gained 200 million dollars as his reward!]

[And the money has been transferred into your Bank Card ending with ……5646]

Daniel’s eyes widened in shock as he saw that.

He was in complete daze when a notification dropped on his phone, interrupting the moment. Daniel was shocked to see the credit alert.

His eyes grew wider. “Wow! This is real!” He exclaimed. Then he inquired. “Thank you, system, but is this the only reward I have got?”

Daniel thanked the system as if it were a human before asking it for further details. Immediately after his question, several functions appeared on the system.

Daniel’s gaze scanned the functions provided before choosing his status.

The system loaded his status fully.

Daniel was baffled. “Really… the system knows everything about me!”

Eagerly, Daniel observed another function before selecting it; it opened.
