Chapter 3: Jeff and Sophia Entry

Chapter 3

Meanwhile, Daniel sat at the back of a cab, his expression unreadable. He had sneaked out of the place immediately after the old man was cured. He knew he was going to be questioned, and that was the last thing he ever wanted.

“Alright, we're there now," the driver announced as the car slowed down and came to a stop in front of a large, glassy building.

It was the mall.

Initially, shopping was one of those things that had made Daniel leave the house after being rewarded by the system earlier today.

Daniel nodded, then transferred the driver's money to his account before stepping out of the car.

"I have made the payment. Kindly confirm it.”

"Sure, seen!"

The driver didn't deny seeing the alert notification pop up on his phone.

Just as Daniel was about to walk away, his eyes unconsciously caught sight of his own face in the side mirror of the car; he suddenly halted, then leaned closer to have a look.

“What!" He exclaimed, touching his own face in admiration. “For real, my face changed? Ah! I look even more attractive now!”

His lips parted with a smirk.

Vroom!

The driver had started the car and zoomed off.

Daniel frowned as he couldn't see a reflection of himself anymore. Without saying a word, he turned and walked into the large mall.

A sharp, sleek car was in motion while two lovebirds were talking to each other, smirking and chuckling.

"Darling, are we going to the mall to get those things you promised me?” A lady with thick make-up on her face asked, her smile growing as she inquired.

"Of course,” the man, who was handling the steering wheel, answered. “I don't promise and fail. Whatever I have said to do, I make sure to fulfill it, especially when it comes to you….”

His gaze moved to the lady's side. “Sweetheart.”

The lady blushed shyly. "Thank you, darling! I love you so much!” She said, leaning her body toward the man. "You're the best compared to that trash.”

The man, on hearing that, frowned dramatically. "Oh, please, don't dare compare me to that thing next thing,” he warned, not angrily, but disgustingly. "He isn't worth a pair of shoes I'm putting on right now.”

The lady didn't stop smiling; however, she quickly apologized. “I'm sorry, darling. Never will I do such a thing again. Haha!"

“Good!"

Back at the mall…

Daniel had finished shopping. He had selected some clothes, sneakers, and trousers. He was okay now and wanted to head to the cashier's desk to make payment, but he remembered his phone was bad and needed to be changed.

However, he suddenly had a second thought about it and waved it off before heading to the cashier's desk. But then, what he wasn't ready for or ever anticipated came his way at that very moment.

The lady and man earlier in the car had just stepped out of the car and had stepped into the same mall.

Daniel's gaze met theirs.

His fist tightened, his expression turning red.

The beautiful lady in question was no other than Daniel's ex-girlfriend, named Sophia Ben, who had dumped him for another man because he was poor and the new guy was rich.

Daniel swiftly turned his head to the other side, as if pretending he hadn't seen this couple; however, it was already too late.

“Wait, isn’t that Daniel Cowell, my ex-boyfriend?" Sophia asked after catching sight of Daniel and pointing in that direction.

Her new boyfriend, Jeff Duke, raised his head, and his gaze followed her finger. He quickly tilted his head. "Yes, that's him!” He confirmed before furrowing his eyebrows. "What's he doing here?”

Without another word, they hurriedly caught up with Daniel, who had ignored them and was about to proceed to the cashier's desk.

Sophia was about to speak when Daniel raised his head, and she got a full picture of him; she froze. "Huh? Why are you looking more handsome now? Thought you were supposed to get ugly after dumping me.”
