Chapter 4

Sophia couldn't hide her shock or the fact. Truly, Daniel Cowell had been a handsome guy even when they were dating, but since Daniel couldn't meet her needs, she dumped him.

And her expectations afterward were that Daniel would fall into depression, which would cause a change in his appearance. However, the latter was looking even more taken.

Jeff noticed the change on Daniel's face, but he wasn't bothered. “What are you doing, trash?” He mocked.

Daniel's expression turned cold as he finally gazed at them. “I should be asking you that, spoiled brat!”

"You…..!" Sophia's face tightened. “How dare you talk back to my boyfriend that way! I'll deal with you!"

Daniel chuckled, but didn't respond. He completely ignored them and turned to the clerk at the cashier's desk. "Please, how much is everything I have bought? Let me know so I can pay and get out of here.”

The clerk nodded respectfully and took the items from him, about to scan each item. However, she stopped when Jeff marched forward.

He pulled Daniel by his wrist. “How dare you ignore us! We ain't done talking to you, trash!" Then he turned to look at the clerk with red eyes. "And you, what the hell do you think you're doing? Why would you allow someone like him to enter here in the first place? And he even touched the items with his filthy hands. Tsk! Do you think he can pay for those items?"

His tone had risen, drawing the attention of everyone present in the place. Soon, the people formed a small crowd.

Sophia marched forward. “Yes, my boyfriend is right!" She supported him with a nod. Then pointed at Daniel. “This guy is nothing but a penniless scumbag! I used to date him before, but there's nothing good about him, so I dumped him!”

The small crowd started murmuring as they heard those words from the beautiful lady. Their faces were contorted with disgust.

The clerk could only swallow hard and stayed quiet. Her madam was around, so she wouldn't want to risk her job by disrespecting any customer.

"I bet you, he's here to steal. Just order the security guards to throw him out! Or you'll be fired if anything goes missing!” Jeff offered a suggestion, as if he was doing the clerk a favor.

Not a minute later, Jeff's words dropped, and a firm voice was heard from the side.

"What's happening here?”

Everyone turned in that direction and saw a young, beautiful woman dressed gorgeously emerging fully into view.

Seeing her, the clerk immediately bowed her head. “Miss Ava!" Judging by the clerk's respectful greeting, the people around immediately knew this young woman was the owner of this mall.

The clerk immediately came out of the counter and walked to her boss and briefly explained everything to her in less than two minutes.

Ava's face changed as she inquired. “And who's this trash guy?"

“There."

Ava's eyes followed the clerk's finger, and immediately her gaze landed on Daniel where he was standing; her eyes widened in shock.

Her mouth agape. "You… again?”

Ava Adams was shocked to see Daniel again. She was the young lady that her grandfather had collapsed in front of the restaurant whose Daniel had cured, but disappeared afterwards that she could no longer find him.

Now, here he is, right in front of her.

In her mall.

The thing is, after Daniel Cowell cured her grandfather a few hours ago, Ava decided to change her mind and drove her grandfather home while returning to her mall to check whether things were going well or if her attention was needed.

But luckily, she had met the young man who saved her grandfather.

The crowd, including Jeff and Sophia, was astonished to see that the owner knew Daniel.

Daniel's expression didn't change. He hadn't expected to meet her again so soon, not while he had sneaked out that time.

“No, Miss Ava! You're mistaken!" Sophia quickly shook her head as she addressed the young lady by the name the clerk had called her when she walked in. “This must be a misunderstanding! You don't know this poor trash!"

Jeff tilted in agreement. “You must be mistaking him for someone else!" He was convinced that someone like Ava couldn't by any chance know someone like Daniel.

However, Ava turned and shot both of them a deadly glare. “Throw both of them out! I don't want to see them here!" She barked coldly, and that was it. Several security guards rushed forward, grabbed Jeff and Sophia, and dragged them outside.

Afraid, the crowd slowly dispersed.

"Here are your items, Sir.”

The clerk after finding out that her madam knew this young man had quickly rushed back to her duty post and scanned the items swiftly before handing them to Daniel. She didn't want trouble.

"The total price is $2k," the clerk added after giving the bag to Daniel.

Daniel didn't argue. He knew he had packed a whole lot of items. And in a place like this, nothing was cheap.

He nodded, brought out his phone, about to scan the barcode to make payment,

“Please, don't."

Ava spoke suddenly, causing Daniel to halt. He wasn't surprised. He knew the reason why she had said that just now.

“He isn't paying," Ava told the clerk, and she nodded without asking why.

Turning to face Daniel, Ava said, “Come with me. To my office.”

He asked, as he saw no sign of their other associates. Those weren't their names; they were just fond of each other, anyway. Subordinate 3 glanced around and frowned. “Could they be in the backyard? As subordinate 3 was out of sight, subordinate 4 muttered. “I knew that chunky isn't capable of doing anything. That noise was from the moment that Damian's subordinate struck the gate with his axe.“Could it be that they're here?" Daniel muttered that before rushing to hide. His grip around the rod in his hand tightened as he gazed toward the door. “I'm waiting for them…" Meanwhile, Damian's four men weren't ready to knock. Hence, subordinate 1—the chubby one— without realizing that the door wasn't locked, moved backward before rushing forward, slamming himself against the door. The door burst open wide, the daylight shining into the living room. He almost fell to the ground as he stormed into the room. He believed that, as a man, it was his responsibility to take care of the woman and not the other way round. Ava was annoyed. “What do you mean? What I ordered isn't up to $300, and you are saying you want to refund me? Really? Please, stop that. I did it without expecting a refund." Naturally sensing that Ava was vexed, Daniel quickly apologized and said, "I'm sorry for that. I didn't mean to get you angry. I was only trying to stay the cool guy that I am.” He intentionally used that to make Ava smile a little. And she did. However, she didn't say a word. Aren't you supposed to be monitoring what's going on there?” Ava only smiled at him. Then, she took out her phone and called a number. She talked briefly to the person before ending the call. She then looked at Daniel and said, "It's settled now. They'll take good care of everything in my absence. So, I'm free to go with you now, right?" Daniel swallowed hard. “No problem."
