Max walked down the base and met up with Jane in her office. As it seems ,she wasn't inn he had to go back to the secretary in charge, then she directed him towards one of the lectures room on camp .Not even bothering to knock max entered the room without much further ado, jane was before a board giving details of the dos and don'ts of the Kraken squad, written vividly on the board. the sound of the door drew the attention of eight eyeballs to the entrance.
"Max?never thought you had come.."Jane was pleasantly surprised he accepted her request. few would want to risk their lives for the military, though it wasn't for free.
"its good you could make it," she added
"The pleasure is mine." Max smiled turning his view to the three people seated, including Sarah who occupied the last row. she waved at him. So he made sure to send a thumbs up her way, but it was only for a second.
Beggars couldn't be choosers. Max wasn't much of a talker, but it was good enough he could join the team.
Jane welcomed max to the crew, introducing him to the long awaited members. The most noticeable feature was the looks on their faces, which weren't very pleasant
It had to be two things
One, they were eager to meet the last member but were angered by the lack of punctuality
two, they already knew who the last member was and being late only worsened the meeting
If it were the previous one then maybe understandable, but if it were to be the later then he was in for a another secret plot of trouble.
Jane went ahead to introduce everyone, as it seems this wasn't their first meeting, so only he wasn't familiar with the bunch. Sarah was the only familiar face . Apart from her were Ronald, said to be the son of a military instructor but who himself became a mercenary, and a soldier named Carel.
"This is Maximus, the last member of the crew with time. You will get to know one another well with every mission."
everyone acknowledged and went back to taking notes without raising objections to the explanation Jane was making.
Their Squad is codenamed Kraken....Their job involves sorting new problems and problems the military and government can't spare manpower for or can't risk losing power over.
If before the apocalypse Jane's squad would hardly have had much to focus on, but now. there was already three major assignments for them to handle.
"The death of path scientists, The mystery of sorra and if he really has the ability to make paths. and most importantly the Red Beam."
With each listing, Jane's cane struck diagrams that represented them on the board. As for the dead scientist was pinned photos of the crime scene amongst three pinned items, both of which were in their study rooms and one confirmation of a missing check-in of a scientist named '...'
The second diagram was a question mark on a hooded figure, above it, 'Sorra' was written . The target seems good at staying hidden as only his name
The last diagram being a beam that shot from the earth's middle top the clouds, curving into a dome that covered the sky. The phenomenon of the apocalypse had been visible since the beginning.
"We are a bit short on manpower so we might have to split up and handle tasks separately or take them one at a time."
Jane massaged her brows as she felt her head sway from mental burnout.
"about which time did these events happen? Is there any chance that it tallies?"
Ronald raised a reasonable hypothesis but Jane just shut it down as she had already tried that.
"Yeah, I searched it up the time of the events dont, they don't relate in any way. The dead scientists might have been related to one another, but that's common. Sorra only appeared recently after Alpha team returned from a retrieval quest. the red beam has beam is out of context; it has been there since the apocalypse. That's the reason we are heading over to study it as it seems to be the main culprit of this hell world."
Ronald didn't refute longer, Carel seemed to be more of a listener, while Sarah felt puzzled by something
"Huh....captain?"
"Yes,sarah"
"Shouldn't we pick them based on priority, then run them indefinitely?"
Sarah suggested with a pen on her lip tip and a notepad in hand. she had been making checks and links to decipher the case.
"Get to the point..."
Sarah stepped forward, taking the chalk off Jane's hand and began sketching the details almost like she had practised before the meeting.
"The scientists, like you said, had alot in common. that leads to a trait, the missing and dead victims were all working on a project to create a new power system. A path to create superhumans, either from genes or tech weapons. Recently, there was another scientist who also got involved but survived and didnt die but lost his research and developed tech."
"Garfield?"
"Yes, him," Sarah answered smoothly before continuing with another sketch."According to reports sorra claims to have created a new path just around this time.which means this mysterious figure is either monopolising the market or eliminating the competition, either way he_ ."
"Wins...by having the military controlled and confused with killing a scientist and kidnapping the other, he probably knows more than we do. lest we forget tof the stolen item from Prof. Garfield."
Everyone's brain was on high thinking pro, and eventually came to an agreement that jane and Sarah would interrogate garfield about the stolen item. while the rest of the team lies in wait, watching out for Sorra trails and tracks.
they just finished making arrangements when they heard a knock on the door
"Come in"
creak !**
"I am sorry, but there seems to be an addition to your quest file" the secretary that brought Max appeared once more and left with a wink hint at max.
Sarah felt infuriated for some reason max chose to focus on the well-formed wrinkle on Jane's face, hinting at the stressed feeling she was getting from the papers.
"Ex doctor collosso, faced ...mutation during an extraction process of a rescued victim from the Alpha team mission. complications brought up had turned the Doctor into a ravaging beast."
Jane raised her head to everyone in the room. her eyes moved between Max and sarah
Another knock on the door, but this time the person didnt seem to care about the response
Walking in was the commander, and right behind him was an old alias,Doctor siri that gave max pills that sped up his evolution.siri looked bit red and swelled as if trying hardto keep her words tight in.
Unless she said something, no one was going none was gonna ask the doctor for an explanation.
The commander had a case in hand which he placed and opened on the table. he asked everyone to file out at a time as he attached a watch to their wrist.
Each time the watch was attached it stung the owner making them groan before going back to normal.
Jane seemed to have gotten a special kind before the meeting, which wasn't all that surprising.
It was soon Max's turn. He let the watch sit but it immediately stung him but soon a screen flashed before his eyes
{System blooming 9%}
were the words that flashed before vanishing.
max felt like he hallucinated, but then he heard words echoe in his brain.
{"It's nice seeing you again maximus, It seems you finally got in touch with alien tech making it easy to communicate this soon. Now there's little time, but here's what you have to do....sync the system with your mimic, though it wont awaken Momo, but you have a higher chance of creating True mimics unlike the types that are undefined and glitch. you probably managed to create a special, like a growth or devour mimic. Everything should be fine once you managed to destroy the red beam before someone gets control of the world spirit. }
<huh....what's this...who's speaking to me?>
max responded in his head, but got no reply.
On the outside, he seemed to have frozen, similar to a seizure so the commander immediately called the health rescue and tried to disband the watch from his wrist. An empty casing fell off his wrist as tech chip bore into his skin and vanished.
Sarah followed him leaving the rest of the crew agape. Another headache struck jane whos manpower problem just worsened .
Still standing by the door since the departure of the commander and Sarah.
Siri, who had been holding something back this whole time finally opened her lips
"I.....have a request"
"is there room for one more member?"
The light in Jane's eyes went lit.

Tracks and Terror
Siri led the way, but it was really her memories that pulled them forward. With her quiet guidance—and Jane’s steady presence at her side—they began retracing the places where she and Dr. Colosso, now Kran, had once circled each other as an almost-couple. They walked through stretches of the facility and the broken city that were haunted more by ghosts of the past than by anything visibly dangerous. They stopped where he used to wait for her between shifts, at the cracked bench by the outer corridor window where the sun bled orange through dust. They paused in the narrow alley that once served as their shortcut, where the walls seemed to lean together in a conspiratorial hush. Siri’s voice shook as she pointed out the quiet corners where he’d rambled about theories and futures and impossible dreams in place of confessing feelings he never quite dared to say aloud.Jane said little during all of this. She didn’t know the old Colosso, didn’t share these memories, but she understood grie

Heist
An orb glowed on a ring-shaped plate. A scientist wearing a face shield was reassembling the orb with a picker and spatula for what felt like the ten-thousandth time. He had tried multiple patterns already. Hopefully, this time would be a success."Hey, Lorne, would you hand me the chip of the core? That should be the final piece to this puzzle. Let's pray it doesn't explode." The scientist grimaced, extending a hand toward Lorne, his new assistant, who was holding a chunk of Nest Core worth dozens of lives."Here, Professor," Lorne answered. It had been three days, yet they still hadn’t succeeded in creating what they were after. There wasn’t much time. According to the military, the system might crash the moment the Merc Association obtained a C rank or a New Path. The professor attached the chip of Nest Core to the open part of the core. Immediately, a rainbow wave of energy spread to all corners of the lab and beyond. The scientist, Garfield, flinched as sweat dripped down his for

“Is that the last one?” Jane said to the secretary, who was tidying up the papers on the table. She, on the other hand, was sipping her morning coffee from her mug.“Yes, Captain, that was the last one,” the secretary said anxiously.“Leave the rest to me, then,” Jane reassured her, her hands picking up the paper on the table before she took her seat and gave the chair a twirl.Sigh...“I sent letters to five different destinations, secretly, to those I found fitting for the Special Squad. Those I could trust, as they would focus more on missions outside the base,” Jane said out loud, though she didn’t seem to be talking to anyone. She had chosen individuals known for their resourcefulness and who had proven their loyalty through past missions. Each had unique qualities: a strategist who could outsmart adversaries, a medic who excelled in high-pressure situations, and a technician with unrivalled skills in hacking and engineering, making them indispensable for missions beyond base bor
The Story of the leader of the first Speial squad leader.
The birds were screeching just beneath the clouds as the sun set on the event of the day.An awarding ceremony for the soldiers who had accomplished the first-ever Rank C mission would be taking place at the sector front. The commander had taken it upon himself to honour the heroes who brought hope back to the last lamplight of humanity. With the apocalypse in full swing, it was hard to make anything feel official, but the military managed, making it at least half as good as ceremonies from the old world.Jane watched the setup. To her, all these were mere formalities that could have been skipped—yet the constant, rapid tempo of her heartbeat said otherwise.Father… little Jane hasn’t let you down.Jane’s cheeks went wet as tears slipped down onto her fist, clenched tightly at her waist.“Is everything fine, Captain? I can’t help but notice that you haven’t dressed up for the ceremony.” At some point, the commander had managed to appear at her side.“Ah, Commander—” Jane flinched, the
