Chapter 5 The Battle for Supremacy

The one who spoke this time was Demion, the youngest of all the retainers; and the 3rd strongest retainer.

I had recruited him when he was just a Dragonight probably at the age of 100 years. I was on a mission issued to me by king to subdue some rebel dragons and that is when I encountered a young Dragon at the peak stage of Dragonight realm.

Considering he belonged to the noble family, their eggs took at least 100 years to hatch and another 100 year or so for dragonling to evolve depending on the talent. That is why I could tell he was rare even among the geniuses to have come this far.

But the thing that attracted my attention was that he was being hunted by the most powerful leader's family the 1st family.

Intrigued by how the situation will unfold, I followed him from the shadow; saw him fight against other dragonight and even dragon lord realm soldiers with sword in his hands and without turning into his true dragon form.

The first family had the ability to control flames to the degree that made them one of the most powerful force in the dragon realm, and this young dragon with his unrefined skill was pushing back even Dragon lord, but no matter how hard he would fights the outcome was already decided.

I had a general idea of what had happened for him to end up in his current situation, because I had seen the same incident happening recently.

Few days ago there was a competition held in the capital which came once in every 10,000 years.

The competition was called 'Battle for supremacy' in which, an opportunity was given to every dragon in the dragon realm to prove their strength.

In this event many different fights were convened.

The ranking of leaders is changed every time based on their strength, many challenges are accepted, sometimes leaders are also changed based on war based model between two families.

Apart from that there are many Dragon in the dragon realm who are awarded a unique title given by king himself due to their deeds or strength, and there are many dragons who challenge the title holder in hopes of snatching there titles.

Then there is an individual fight in which a dragon has to face unknown number of challenges and the last standing dragon receives a chance to wish anything he desires at the discretion of king.

This is the method through which I had asked the king to grant me the whole moon as my domain because with it came many privileges which were necessary for my future plans. I would have asked for him to release me from my soul contract or to release me from the duties of guardian, but only if it would have been that easy.

In this battle for supremacy there were thousands of matches conducted but one particular match drew my attention.

because it was for the title of one of the strongest leader's seat, the first leader. It was not only that but the challenger was none other than the vessel family who issued the challenge.

It was common occurrence for this type of power struggle to occur in this events but the reason for my interest was something else.

I knew 1st leader personally because he was one of the top candidate in my kill list when I achieve my freedom, so I was definitely interested in the match.

And the match was certainly the most entertaining match I had ever seen because the challenger has pushed 1st leader to the limit of his capabilities.

In the match the challenger has fought in his hybrid form with a sword in his hands and pushed first leader to transform into his true dragon form and yet he was winning until his composure full of momentum broke.

For something like that to happen in this crucial moment, it could only mean that someone has pulled some underhanded tricks to threaten the challenger, I didn't know who, maybe first leader himself or it could also be king. In the realm where everyone praises and promotes strength above all, such methods were unacceptable but there was nothing in my power that I could do at that time.

Seeing the young dragon wielding a sword and fighting for his life, it reminded me of that warrior who was fighting that day, with sword in his hands.

I too had pursued the path of sword and I could tell that the challenger has invested an unimaginable amount of time refining his skill for what reason, to die in front of whole dragon race becoming victim to someone's plot.

Thinking this i didn't only felt pity but also came to know how weak I was. But not everything has lost and fate has presented me with another opportunity.

And so I rescued the young dragonite Demion that day. The only survivor of his family, which was annihilated by first leader after the end of event. I could understand his hatred for the first family because the Dragon monarch that died in that battle was his father.

"It won't be for long." Andrew said trying to console him but Demion has shrugged his king gesture in annoyance.

"I don't need anyone's pity." He looked toward me turning his hatred into his strength, I knew he was ready to face 1st leader and therefore he will be coming with me to the tower.
