Nesse had already reached her limit.
“Can I have my lawyer?” She questioned angrily. “I am being kept here against my wish and without due evidence,” she added.
But she didn’t get any tangible response.
Apparently, the detective who had earlier spoken to her wasn’t at the station, and no one else could take his place. Nesse didn’t like that she was being prevented from speaking with her lawyer, which was even the first thing that she could have done.
“How could I have been so stupid?” She asked herself.
The truth was that she had thought that this wouldn’t be anything serious. Nesse never thought that anyone in their right mind would accuse her of killing someone, but she had also learned not to take anything for granted.
She would have to wait until the uncouth and nasty detective returned, but the moment he did, Nesse would not be spending a second here. She was placed in the VIP segment because of her power and reputation, but that didn’t make Nesse feel any better.
“Your mother is here to see you,” one of the officers informed Nesse.
“Sure,” she said drily.
She knew that her mother was going to come right here and say things that would probably make her feel worse, but now wasn’t the time to reject her mother’s visitation.
If only she hadn’t listened to her mother in the first place, she wouldn’t have been in that party.
“Nesse, are you okay?” Jules asked the moment she was brought to Nesse.
She sounded very worried and concerned, and it felt almost surreal to Nesse. This wasn’t the mother she was used to.
There was barely any form of affection between them.
“If I was in my house, this would have been a good question to ask,” Nesse said, rolling her eyes. “I need my lawyer,” she added.
How the heck did she go from getting divorced to being arrested for murder all in the space of a few hours?
Her life was really in a crazy stage at the moment.
“I am going to contact him as soon as I leave here,” Jules said.
Nesse looked at her mother with surprise, and Jules noticed.
“What is it with the stare?” Jules asked. “I am your mother, Nesse, and I care deeply about you, and I have always wanted the very best for you,” she added.
“And you waited until a moment like this to make me feel this way?” Nesse asked, hardly moved by her mother’s show of affection.
She had already spent most of her life without it, and she was now too old to be dwelling on it.
Jules sighed heavily.
“I visited the Loreson’s,” Jules told Nesse.
Nesse also smiled.
All her resolve broke the moment she heard that name. She could not even begin to imagine what they might be going through as a family. Vince was their only son, and he had only recently become the CEO after years of waiting for his father to step down.
It was sad, and although Nesse never liked any member of that family, she did understand that this was a tough time for them.
“They are still insisting that you are responsible for Vince’s death,” Jules added.
Nesse became upset.
“I know they are hurt and grieving, but I am not going to take this, mum,” Nesse declared. “Which is why I need my lawyer immediately,” she added firmly.
She would really hate for the Loreson’s to act like their dead son; very unreasonable.
“I hope he is able to get you out of this,” Jules said pitifully.
“Are you also suspecting that I am guilty?” Nesse asked her mother, already preparing to lash out at her, but Jules shook her head.
“No, it’s not that,” she said. “It’s the threat that came from them that worries me,” Jules added.
“They threatened you?” Nesse asked, surprised.
“They did, Nesse, and they weren’t just empty words. They want revenge,” she told Nesse.
“On me?” Nesse asked, almost unable to believe what she was seeing.
“Yes,” Jules answered sadly. “I thought Benita was my friend, but grief had taken over her and I have now come to see that she is a woman with venom,” she added.
“I never liked them,” Nesse said. “But somehow, you always insisted that it had to be them, now see where it has landed me. If you hadn’t forced me into that party, I wouldn’t be here dealing with this,” she added.
“They used to be very nice,” Jules said defensively.
“They are businessmen and women, mum. Do you think they would have given a shit about you if you were of the average class?” Nesse asked her mother.
“You should be more worried about what they intend to do to you,” Jules snapped.
She didn’t like being corrected, especially when it was coming from Nesse.
“Just get my lawyer,” Nesse told her mother, sucking her teeth.
Before her mother could leave, an officer returned.
“Ma’am, you need to get out,” he said, opening the door wide enough for Nesse.
“Where are you taking her?” Jules asked frantically.
“Mum, please,” Nesse said, rolling her eyes.
She was acting as though Nesse was being taken away to be killed, which was a little bit dramatic. Even if the Loreson’s are vengeful towards me, they would have us go to court to deal with it,” Nesse stated.
She was so confident that they couldn’t harm her here, but Jules knew better.
“Where are you taking her?” She asked, insisting on an answer.
“An immediate release has been called for Miss Nesse, ma’am,” the officer told Jules.
Both Nesse and Jules were very shocked at the same time.
“Who pulled that off?” Nesse managed to ask when she got over her shock.
She and Jules knew that the last thing the Loreson’s would do was to ask for her release when they hadn’t gotten what they wanted.
“A certain man,” the officer responded before giving Nesse a card.
When she looked at it, she knew without a doubt that it was still this same secret person who had been sending her money.
Nesse was more confused and perplexed than she had ever been, and as she left the station, she decided that her next big assignment would be to find out who this person was.

Take The Day Off
ATHENA’S POVAfter the doctor left, I went into the kitchen and took care of the empty coffee that Nesse didn’t even take.“Do you need another cup?” I had asked her after she mistakenly spilled the first one and before the doctor left.“No, I don’t,” she had answered.I decided to rinse the cup and keep it just where I saw it before she would demand for another cup of coffee, even though I knew that it wouldn’t be long before she would want more.Since Nesse became pregnant, she had been drinking an insane amount of coffee, but the good part was that the doctor already assured me that it was healthy for the baby. The truth was that there was little or nothing she could do to harm the baby, even though I knew that she would have done so long before now if she could. It only went to show that Lord Dante’s seed was truly strong. That shouldn’t come as a surprise; Lord Dante was a war god, and even though his reign might be shaky since he came back to the Organization, he was still one o
New Plan
JULES’S POVBrandon claimed that he was making moves to push the lawsuit aside, but I was still worried about the way he had kept referring to the money as ours.I didn’t say anything about it to either him or Arthur, but I just couldn’t stop talking about it.“What are you thinking about?” Arthur asked, coming into the living room.“Nothing,” I lied.Arthur came to sit close to me, but I got up and went to the other couch, and I ensured that I saw where he wouldn’t be able to join me.Arthur was instantly displeased.“What is the meaning of that?” He asked me.“It is too early in the morning, Arthur, and I am not in the mood for a fight,” I responded firmly.“What are you even talking about?” Arthur asked. It became obvious that Arthur would not stop talking to me, so I decided to leave the living room for him and return to the bedroom. Besides, it wasn’t like I was even watching what was being shown in the television.I merely turned it on to distract me.And I came out of my bedroo
The Sample
NESSE’S POV“Whatever you need me to do, Nesse, as long as it is within my profession,” the doctor agreed. He didn’t have another choice anyway. Besides, there was a reason he ate off my money every single week.“But that’s not all,” I said.“What more?” He asked.“I don’t want her to know that she is being tested,” I said. “Is that something you can do?” I asked hopefully.“Of course, Nesse,” he answered, and I sighed with deep relief. “Blood is not the only means to get people tested, especially if you are looking for something like a DNA and the likes. Urine, hairs, and even parts of their skin and their fingerprints can be used,” he explained. “That is music to my ears,” I responded.“However, in this case, seeing that you are looking for something that might not be human,” he said, glancing at my stomach.I swallowed hard and I became uncomfortable.I was reminded instantly that I wasn’t carrying what other people was carrying, which was why I couldn’t get rid of it, and if I t
Organization Wall
IRON’S POV“You can’t be serious,” I said when I was eventually able to get out of my shock even though I knew that they wouldn’t play with something as severe as this.“We are dead serious, Lord Dante,” they answered at once. And then I dashed off with speed to the ring, right where I left Hades lying half-dead last night, and I stopped instantly when I arrived and met the ring empty.I could see traces of his blood that had dried up, and some were still congealed, but Hades wasn’t there.“Where is he?” I asked out loud.“When we got here, we found out that he wasn’t here, and so we thought that he had been taken to his room,” one of the Titans decided to explain. “But when we got to his room, we realized that he was never there,” he added.“Where are the Titans in charge of guarding the walls of the Organization?” I asked. My worry was building, and so was my confusion.I wasn’t even angry. I was just worried and confused about what happened.“Get all of them for me!” I barked out t
One Way To Find Out
NESSE’S POVI got dressed for the day’s work earlier than usual. The information my bodyguard gave troubled me the entire night, and I couldn’t sleep a wink.Tonia said Iron lived in a place called the Organization, and now, I was informed that Athena also went to that Organization.I wasn’t sure about Athena living there because my bodyguard only said that she went there instead of the slum, and he only waited for about an hour or two before returning, so it was quite possible that she came out of the Organization much later and went to the slum. But the fact that she also went to the Organization where Iron lived meant one thing only; they both knew each other. However, the confusion still remained what their relationship was. Quite frankly, I didn’t care about whoever Iron decided to continue a relationship with after our contract marriage ended because there was nothing binding him to me anymore, but what troubled me was the fact that Athena was working for me.And I recalled how
By Morning
IRON’S POVI could hardly sleep a wink because I kept wondering what would have happened if I hadn’t intervened, and even now that I did, if that was going to end well. Then when I dozed off, which I didn’t even think I was capable of doing, I saw Hera again.“Thank goodness I saw you,” I said with a relief. I was so relieved that I was seeing her because it just felt like she was the solace I needed for my troubled heart right now.“It’s as if you know that I needed you,” I told her.Thankfully, Hera wasn’t like a mist this time around. She was right in front of me in her full form, and she was right in my chamber, just like the old times.Usually, after a successful day, Hera would come into my chamber, and we would talk to each other. She was so soft and sweet that talking to her about my day, even as a war god. Hera knew the days that it was hectic for me, and she soothed me with words and her presence. And it felt like that at this very moment.“Are you back to stay permanently?
