Lana scoffed, her jealousy flaring even hotter. "Girlfriend? A disfavored, poor young lady whose company is heavily in debt really thinks she can climb the social ladder by seducing a beggar. What a perfect match."
Lana crossed her arms triumphantly. "I would love to see how the two of you even get through the front door today. This is the Mercer Group. You can't just enter by smiling at the security guards."
Dane looked directly into Lana's arrogant eyes. "Let's make a bet then."
Lana paused. "What bet?"
"Whoever cannot get through those front doors tonight," Dane said, his voice echoing in the quiet courtyard, "must kneel right here at the entrance and publicly apologize to the other."
Mara's heart pounded in her chest. She grabbed Dane's sleeve and whispered frantically, "Dane, no! Maybe we should just leave. We don't have invitations. They will humiliate us."
Dane squeezed her waist gently, his eyes never leaving Lana. "Trust me," he whispered back.
More onlookers gathered around, whispering excitedly about the high-stakes drama.
Cade laughed loudly, completely confident. "You really are an idiot! Lana was selected as one of the city's top ten renowned female entrepreneurs this year. She gets more VIP invitations to banquets than she can even attend! There is absolutely no way she cannot get in."
"I agree to the bet," Lana sneered, her eyes gleaming with malice. She looked at Mara. "Prepare your knees. You are going to be scrubbing the pavement tonight."
Lana turned immediately to the head security guard standing at the door. "Guard! Check this woman's identity strictly. They are trying to sneak in to steal food!"
The head guard, a large man in a tailored suit, frowned and stepped in front of Mara. He looked her up and down dismissively. "Miss, please produce your official invitation. If you do not have one, I will have you physically thrown off the property immediately."
Mara froze, her hands shaking violently. She didn't have one. She had planned to wait in the lobby and beg to speak to a manager.
Dane frowned, his eyes narrowing at the guard. "Why are you only checking her invitation? You haven't even checked Lana's identity yet."
Lana laughed, flipping her expensive hair over her shoulder. "I am a regular VIP at these high-society banquets. How could I possibly be the same as you poor rats?"
She reached into her designer purse. "But since you asked so nicely, I will be gracious and show you."
Lana proudly pulled out a gleaming, heavy golden invitation and handed it to the guard.
The guard took it, barely glanced at it for one second, and bowed respectfully. "It is genuine, Miss Hayes. Please go inside."
Lana smirked and pointed directly at Mara. "Now check hers."
The guard turned back to Mara, crossing his massive arms. "Your invitation, miss. Now."
Mara looked down at her feet, her face burning with deep humiliation. She had failed before she even started. Horizon Corp was doomed.
"You've been awfully quiet all this time," Lana taunted loudly, enjoying every second of Mara's pain. "You must be feeling incredibly guilty because you can't produce a single piece of paper, right? Time to kneel!"
Dane calmly stepped in front of Mara. He reached into his cheap jeans pocket.
"Here," Dane said firmly.
He pulled out a simple, silver-gray card and handed it directly to the head security guard.
The guard took the silver-gray card. He looked at it for exactly two seconds. Then, a look of pure disgust crossed his face.
"Sir," the guard said loudly, making sure the entire crowd heard. "This invitation of yours is completely invalid."
Lana and Cade instantly burst into hysterical laughter.
"A fake invitation!" Lana wiped a tear from her eye. "You actually forged a Mercer Group invitation? You are going to jail!"
Mara felt her legs go weak. She pulled desperately on Dane's arm, tears stinging her eyes. "Dane, please. Let's just leave. I can't do this."
Dane stood like a rock. He looked the arrogant guard dead in the eye.
"Are you absolutely sure you are familiar with all types of VIP invitations for this company?" Dane asked coldly.
The guard sneered, stepping aggressively toward Dane. "I have worked here for years. I have never seen a cheap piece of cardboard like this in my life. It is definitely a fake. Get lost right now, both of you, and don't disturb our wealthy guests."
Lana clapped her hands together. "Guards! Throw them onto the street! And make sure they kneel first!"
Two more heavy security guards stepped forward, reaching out to violently grab Dane and Mara by the shoulders.
"Wait a moment!"
A sharp, authoritative female voice echoed loudly from the grand lobby.
Everyone froze.
A stunning woman in a razor-sharp business suit was power-walking toward the glass doors. Her high heels clicked aggressively against the marble floor. Her face was dark with absolute fury. Right behind her walked another sharply dressed woman with an imposing, icy aura.

Mara trembled violently, but she forced herself to speak. "Leave me alone! I never agreed to marry you!""You didn't have to agree," Vaughn sneered, stepping closer. "Your stepmother and your own father agreed for you. They eagerly took a ten-million-dollar contract from my company in exchange for your body. You belong to me!"Hearing this, Lana burst into cruel laughter from the sidelines."You are so lucky, Mara!" Lana mocked loudly, absolutely thrilled to see her sister suffer. "Vaughn Croft's family is quite wealthy! That is much better than trying to run a business on your own! Just go with him and be a good little pet!"Vaughn stopped. He slowly turned his head toward the sound of Lana's voice. His eyes darkened with absolute, murderous hatred. He remembered the excruciating pain of his bones snapping. Although his underground family was slightly inferior in wealth to the Hayes Family, he was his father's only son. His hands had been completely crippled. He was permanently disab

The blinding white spotlight hit the center of the main stage. The massive banquet hall was completely silent, everyone holding their breath to see the legendary owner of Mercer Group. But it wasn't a mysterious billionaire who stepped into the light. It was Dane.Wearing his cheap, faded clothes, Dane walked slowly and confidently down the aisle, right past the rows of stunned billionaires.Lana gasped, her eyes practically bulging out of her skull. She lunged forward and hissed, "Dane! What the hell are you doing?! Step back! They called for the boss of the company, not a broke beggar like you!"Cade grabbed Dane’s sleeve, trying to aggressively yank him back. "Are you insane?! How dare you pretend to be the boss of Mercer Group in front of everyone? You are going to get us all killed!"Dane easily brushed Cade’s hand away without even looking at him. He completely ignored their frantic whispers and kept walking. As Dane reached the steps to the stage, Paige, the terrifying CEO of M
Chapter 13
The entire banquet hall was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Hundreds of the wealthiest, most powerful people in the city stared at the woman in the tailored white executive suit.Paige stood tall, her presence radiating absolute, terrifying authority. She was the public-facing head of Mercer Group. Every single massive financial decision, every billion-dollar acquisition, and every single contract in the company required her personal signature. When Manager Kirk saw her face, all the blood instantly drained from his body. His knees began to shake uncontrollably.Kirk was just a mid-level manager who owned a fraction of a percent of shares. Compared to Paige, he was nothing more than an ant. He had absolutely no idea she was going to attend the banquet tonight. She rarely appeared at these public events."P-President Paige," Kirk stuttered, his voice cracking. He immediately lowered his head, not daring to look her in the eye. "I... I didn't know you would be here."Paige ignored h
Chapter 12
Dane demanded the moment the call connected, "Director Paige, is there a mistake in the partner list for today's banquet? I instructed the butler to contact you yesterday to remove Nexus Group."Lana laughed loudly from across the hall. "Who is Director Paige? I've never even heard that name. You're up to your fraudulent tricks again, Dane. Pretending to have connections you don't have."Cade felt something was off. Dane was far too confident. He had a nagging feeling that Dane's presence today boded ill for them.Cade whispered to Lana, "Let's drive him away. He used a fake VIP invitation to get in today, relying on some low-level connection. If we expose his true colors, the boss of Mercer Group will surely applaud us."Lana marched over and found Manager Kirk. "They used fake VIP invitations to get in earlier. Both the second male lead and I witnessed it."Kirk believed them without question. He hated Dane for making his nephew look bad. Kirk immediately called the security guards,
Chapter 11
Mara stepped back, her eyes wide with bewilderment. She could not understand how Lana and Cade were standing inside the exclusive banquet hall. She had just watched the security guards kick them out.Lana strutted forward, her glittering gown catching the crystal chandelier light. She looked at Mara like a hawk looking at an injured mouse."Surprised to see me?" Lana taunted, her voice dripping with venom. "Did you really think a lowly director like Paige could keep me out? We entered with the personal help of Manager Kirk. He is a senior executive at Mercer Group. His authority is infinitely higher than whoever is helping you."Lana crossed her arms, a triumphant smirk on her face. "Manager Kirk already gave us the inside scoop. The massive ten-million-dollar contract tonight will definitely be mine."In reality, Manager Kirk was nothing more than a mid-level pencil pusher. He had secretly peeked at a confidential document on Director Paige's desk earlier that day. He had seen the na

Lana's face burned with extreme embarrassment. She gritted her teeth so hard they nearly cracked. She was the supposedly mighty heir of the Hayes Family; kneeling in the dirt would destroy her reputation forever.Cade quickly stepped in front of Lana, sweating profusely. "Hey, don't be so aggressive," he said nervously to Dane. "It was just a casual remark between friends. Is it really necessary to take it so seriously?"Dane shrugged casually, but his eyes were ice cold. "It doesn't matter to me. I can't physically force you to honor your own bet. But with so many people watching, and so many cell phones recording... your story will definitely be on the front page of the entertainment news headlines tomorrow morning. 'Hayes Family Heir Refuses to Pay Debts.' Sounds catchy."Dane chuckled lightly.Bree respectfully extended her arm toward the glass doors. "Please, sir, miss. Let me invite you inside."Dane placed his hand gently on the small of Mara's back and guided her through the g
