Morning came quietly.

There was no rush, no unnecessary talk. Jasper was already awake before the sky fully brightened. Bai Zhe followed shortly after. Neither of them needed to say much. Everything that needed to be done had already been decided the night before.

Bai Zhe adjusted his clothes and glanced at Jasper. “We’re going straight there.”

“Yes,” Jasper replied. “No detours.”

“And no hiding,” Bai Zhe added.

Jasper nodded. “There’s no need.”

They left the compound shortly after. The road was quiet, the city still waking up. Traffic was light. Jasper sat in the back seat, eyes closed, arms crossed, thinking through the next steps. Bai Zhe watched the road ahead, his expression steady.

Neither of them spoke for a while.

Eventually, Bai Zhe broke the silence. “The Zhou family won’t pretend they don’t know why we’re coming.”

“They might,” Jasper replied calmly. “People lie even when the truth is obvious.”

Bai Zhe gave a short laugh. “Then they’re wasting their breath.”

After leaving the Zhou family’s house, the car drove smoothly along the road. Neither Jasper nor Bai Zhe spoke immediately. The tension from earlier had not faded yet, but it had settled into something quieter. It was no longer explosive. It was steady.Bai Zhe leaned back in his seat and finally broke the silence. “So,” he said, turning slightly toward Jasper, “what’s next?”Jasper didn’t answer right away. His gaze remained on the road ahead. The city moved past them steadily, people going about their day without knowing what had just happened or what was about to happen.“We wait,” Jasper said after a moment.Bai Zhe frowned slightly. “Wait?”“Yes.”“For how long?”“That depends on them.”Bai Zhe thought about it for a moment. “You’re talking about the Bai family.”Jasper nodded. “They need to move first.”Bai Zhe crossed his arms. “If we strike now, we could catch them off guard.”“That’s exactly why we shouldn’t,” Jasper replied.Bai Zhe looked at him. “Explain.”“If we attack fi

The restrained assassin remained silent for a long moment, his eyes scanning the room with a faint glimmer of defiance. He had been caught, yet he did not flinch. The quiet in the compound stretched thick, heavy with anticipation, as if the night itself were waiting to see what would unfold next. Jasper observed him carefully, every muscle, every subtle twitch recorded in his mind. Finally, the man spoke, voice low, bitter, and edged with frustration. “You think you caught me by chance?” he scoffed, the words dripping with contempt. “Do you really believe you knew where he was by yourself? There’s no way I would have led you there willingly.”Jasper’s eyes narrowed slightly. He tilted his head, watching the man’s expression shift from confidence to defiance, then to a faint shadow of fear. He did not respond immediately. He had learned long ago that words, at the right time, carried more weight than force. Silence could be a tool. Silence could be a weapon.Bai Zhe, still seated nearb

The compound was quiet after Antonio had left. The sun had long set, leaving the courtyard bathed in muted moonlight that barely touched the edges of the stone walls. Jasper remained near the front hall, hands folded behind his back, observing the shadows as they stretched across the ground. He did not speak immediately. He let the silence settle, allowing the weight of the night to press against them both.Bai Zhe sat on the edge of a chair in the sitting area, his posture tense, eyes tracking every movement, every flicker of light. There was unease lingering around him, the kind that comes from knowing danger is not just possible, but imminent. Jasper finally spoke, voice calm, deliberate.“There’s a high chance someone will try again tonight,” he said. “An assassin. One who wants to finish what was started.”Bai Zhe’s expression stiffened, a shadow passing over his face. “I thought as much,” he replied quietly. “It makes sense. They won’t give up that easily. They failed once, and

  • It's about control

Antonio had settled into the car beside him, the engine silent but ready. Jasper turned to him, gaze steady. “Antonio,” he began, voice low, deliberate. “The Zhou family has overstepped. They’ve tried to eliminate Bai Zhe. They’ve acted recklessly. I want them removed. Completely. And I don’t want anyone else swallowing up their wealth. That belongs to us—or at least, to me and Bai Zhe.”Antonio nodded slowly, expression neutral, but there was a hint of a flash behind his eyes. He understood the weight of what Jasper was saying. “Understood,” he said. “So, we’re taking it all. No hesitation, no complications.”“Yes,” Jasper replied, tone firm. “No hesitation. I want precision. I want efficiency. We cannot allow chaos to take the lead. The Zhou family must understand consequences.” He paused for a brief moment, letting the words sink in. “You will be ready to act. And when it’s done, we claim what is rightfully ours. Bai Zhe and I will take the majority. The rest… as needed.”Antonio’s

  • What's the plan?

Jasper returned home just as the sun began to dip below the horizon, the warm light slanting across the streets, casting long shadows that stretched like fingers across the pavement. The moment he stepped through the gate, he saw Bai Zhe waiting. His posture was tense, shoulders squared, eyes alert—an image of someone who had endured more than his share but refused to show weakness.“Jasper,” Bai Zhe said immediately, voice low but edged with frustration, “things are getting worse. The Zhou family… they’ve gone beyond all limits.”Jasper’s brow furrowed. “Worse how?” he asked, calm, but the underlying tension in his voice betrayed the anger rising within.“They’ve… they’ve made attempts,” Bai Zhe said, pausing for a brief second as if weighing whether to continue. “Attempts on my life. On me personally. They think that if they remove me, they can win this fight once and for all. But it won’t be enough.”Jasper’s hands clenched into fists, though he didn’t move. The quiet control in hi
