The next morning came with a quiet heaviness in the air. Jasper woke earlier than the others, sitting on the edge of the bed for a moment as he tied the laces of his shoes. He didn’t rush, but he didn’t waste time either. Outside the door, he could already hear Bai Zhe moving around, the faint sounds of him stretching and muttering to himself.

By the time Jasper stepped out into the hallway, everyone was already awake. Bai Zhe, the two men, and even the girl who had joined them the day before were standing together, looking a little nervous but trying not to show it.

“You’re up early,” Bai Zhe said when Jasper approached.

“Couldn’t sleep much," Jasper replied. “It’s the last stage. We don’t know what they’re planning.”

Bai Zhe nodded, rubbing the back of his neck, “Yeah… yesterday was rough.”

Jasper didn’t comment. He simply walked ahead, and the others followed behind him. The old man of the Sinclair family was already downstairs waiting for them, hands folded behind his back.

  • You fought good

The clock kept ticking on the wall, each minute dragging a little longer than it should. Everyone in the arena seemed tired. Even the crowd sounded drained. After the last match ended, the referee finally raised his hand and spoke loudly enough for the room to hear.“That’s all for today. We continue tomorrow.”A few people sighed in relief. Some clapped weakly. A couple of the fighters just walked off without waiting for anything else. It had been a long day, and most of them didn’t have much strength left to pretend otherwise.Jasper stood near the side, arms folded. He didn’t react to the announcement. He just watched his men walk over to him one by one. Some of them looked embarrassed. Some just looked disappointed. Two of his men had lost twice already. Their expressions told the whole story before they even opened their mouths.“Boss,” one of them said quietly.Jasper nodded. “You did what you could.”The man didn’t look convinced, but he nodded back. The second man approached.

  • Withdraw

Two minutes before she stepped onto the stage, the room felt too still. She stood there with her arms folded, staring at the floor like she was trying to settle her thoughts before they spilled over.Jasper didn’t like the look on her face.He leaned closer. “You heard that announcement?”She nodded once.He let out a breath. “Don’t fight. Just step back and let it go.”She didn’t answer immediately. She kept her eyes on the ground, almost as if she was waiting for something to make the choice for her. But nothing did. She lifted her head.“I need to win one of the first three spots,” she said quietly.Jasper frowned. “You won’t get it if you’re injured.”“I still need to try.”“You don’t,” he said. His tone was steady, not harsh. “If you quit, you still have a chance later. They might let it slide. But if you get hurt now, you’re done. There’s nothing after that.”She shook her head. “No. I’m already here. I can’t step back now.”He exhaled again, slower this time. “You’re being stub

  • Jasper versus Roland

The referee raised his hand again. “Next match. Jasper versus Roland.”Roland stepped forward. He was one of the three men everyone already feared. He cracked his knuckles once and looked at Jasper with a calm expression. Jasper didn’t say anything. He just stood there, relaxed.People in the audience whispered.“That’s one of them.”“Jasper might lose.”“I don’t think so. He’s too calm.”“Calm doesn’t mean unbeatable.”Bai Zhe rubbed his sore arm. “He’ll be fine.”Marco wasn’t convinced. “You sure? That guy looks dangerous.”“He always looks dangerous,” Bai Zhe said. “Let’s just watch.”The referee dropped his hand. “Begin!”Roland moved first. He rushed at Jasper without hesitating, aiming a straight punch at his face. Jasper tilted his head slightly, and the punch went past him. Roland didn’t stop—he spun and aimed a kick toward Jasper’s ribs.Jasper caught the leg with one hand. The crowd gasped.Jasper pushed Roland back gently, as if he was just clearing space. Roland stumbled t

  • I'm still alive

Bai Zhe gritted his teeth as the kick hit his knee. He staggered back a step, steadying himself. The man came in fast again, throwing another punch. Bai Zhe dodged it this time and pushed the man’s arm aside, trying to create space.“I thought you said you were tired,” the man said.“I lied,” Bai Zhe replied. The man chuckled and rushed in again. Bai Zhe moved back, blocking a punch to his chest. The impact still made him wince. He could feel a sting in his arm. The man wasn’t holding back.Marco shouted, “Bai Zhe, move to the left! Don’t stay straight!”“I know!” Bai Zhe snapped, but he still listened. He shifted left and avoided another punch by a hair. The man kept pressing him, punch after punch. Bai Zhe blocked some, dodged the rest, but his breathing was getting heavier. The man didn’t seem tired. He kept a steady pace, like he had been waiting for Bai Zhe’s stamina to drop.“You’re slowing---” the man said.“You talk too much,” Bai Zhe replied. The man smirked. He aimed a kick

  • Tag 2

The rules were repeated once more, just to make sure no one complained later. Eight fighters. Random pairings. Lose twice and you were out. Lose once and you still had a chance. Win twice and you moved forward. Simple enough, but the air around the ring felt heavier than the words themselves.Jasper stood at the edge of the venue with his hands in his pockets, watching the organizers move around the screen. The others were beside him—Bai Zhe, Reid, Marco, and the woman who joined their team earlier. None of them spoke at first. They just listened as the organizers walked through the instructions again.“Everyone should hold their tags,” one of them said into the mic. “The system will shuffle the numbers. The first match will begin immediately.”Reid let out a small breath and turned to Jasper. “We fight individually. No help?”“No help,” Jasper said. His voice didn’t change. “Do your best. That’s all.”Marco nodded and rolled his shoulders. Bai Zhe looked down at his own tag, rubbing
