On the way from the Hart family’s house to Jack’s villa in the Washington suburbs, Isabella stared out the car window, a worried frown on her face.
"Jack, about the White’s Resort contract... I heard Manager Powell is really hard to deal with. And Daniel will probably try to sabotage it..."
"Don’t worry," Jack held her hand, his eyes steady.
"The real owner of White’s Resort owes me a huge favor. The contract won’t be a problem."
Even though Jack’s tone was certain, Isabella still felt uneasy.
She didn’t want to put all the pressure on Jack—or let him be humiliated by her family because of her.
An idea popped into her head: she would try to handle it herself.
Even if she could only help a little, even if she could just buy Jack a small chance, it would be worth it.
Early the next morning, Isabella didn’t wake Jack.
She took a taxi alone to White’s Resort, which was located by a lake in the suburbs.
She found the manager’s office on the second floor of the project department, took a deep breath, and knocked on the door.
"Come in." A greasy, impatient male voice came from inside.
Isabella pushed the door open.
Behind the desk sat a middle-aged man with a beer belly and a fleshy face—Manager Powell.
The office reeked of a mixture of alcohol and cheap perfume.
"Mr. Powell, hello. I’m Isabella Hart. I’d like to talk to you about the resort’s renovation contract," Isabella tried to stay polite, her hands clasped nervously in front of her.
Powell looked up.
When he saw Isabella’s stunning beauty and slender figure, his cloudy eyes lit up with lewd desire.
He put down his documents, circling around the desk to approach her step by step.
The smell of alcohol on his breath hit her face.
"The Hart family’s young lady? Tsk tsk—you’re even more beautiful than I imagined..."
He reached out to touch Isabella’s face, the gold ring on his finger glinting with a disgusting light.
"Please show some respect!"
Isabella stepped back to avoid his hand, her tone angry.
"Respect?" Powell scoffed.
He suddenly grabbed Isabella’s wrist, his grip so tight it made her frown in pain.
"In here, I make the rules! Spend a night with Uncle Powell, make me happy, and the contract is yours! Otherwise... don’t even think about the contract. And I’m not sure you’ll walk out of this door in one piece today!"
Isabella’s face turned pale with fear.
She struggled hard, but couldn’t break free.
Just then, her phone rang—it was Jack.
"Bella, where are you? I made breakfast for you." Jack’s concerned voice came through the line.
"Jack! I’m at White’s Resort... Powell he... he won’t let me leave..." Isabella’s voice was tearful and trembling.
"What?!" Jack’s voice turned furious instantly.
"Bella, don’t be afraid—I’ll be right there! And Powell will be fired immediately—he doesn’t dare hurt you!"
Powell heard the conversation.
He snatched Isabella’s phone, yelling arrogantly into the receiver.
"Kid! Who do you think you are? Daring to threaten me? I’m telling you—if Isabella doesn’t make me happy today, she’s not leaving! If you dare come here, I’ll have you carried out!"
On the other end of the line, Jack’s voice was cold as ice, carrying an invisible murderous intent.
"Powell, I’ll give you one last chance. Let her go now and get out of the office. Otherwise, the evidence of you taking kickbacks, falsifying accounts, and sexually harassing employees will be enough to put you in jail for the rest of your life."
Powell’s face changed, a wave of panic rising in his chest.
But relying on being on his own turf, he forced himself to stay calm.
"Y-you’re bluffing! I wasn’t born yesterday!"
With that, he hung up the phone hard!
"You little bitch! You don’t know what’s good for you!"
His face contorted with rage as he lunged at Isabella again. "I’ll see who can save you today!"
Isabella was cornered against the wall.
In her despair, Jack’s words gave her a glimmer of courage—she believed him!
Just as Powell’s greasy hand was about to touch her—
The office door was thrown open violently!
Anthony Thompson, the resort’s general manager, stood in the doorway with a livid face, accompanied by two armed security guards.
"Powell! What do you think you’re doing! Let Miss Hart go immediately!" Anthony shouted sharply.
Powell froze. He let go of Isabella, forcing a smile.
"Mr. Thompson? What are you doing here? I’m just talking business with the client..."
"Talking business?" Anthony sneered, slamming a stack of documents in Powell’s face.
"Talking business with kickbacks? With fake accounts? Or with your dirty hands?!"
The documents scattered—inside were copies of Powell’s various violations and fraudulent accounts.
Powell’s face turned ashen, cold sweat dripping down his forehead.
"This... this is a frame-up!"
Anthony ignored him, ordering the security guards.
"Take him away! Fire him immediately! Notify the legal department—sue him for embezzlement and sexual harassment!"
"Manager! I’m sorry! Give me another chance!"Powell was dragged away like a dead dog, his cries echoing down the corridor.
Anthony then turned to the shaken Isabella, bowing deeply.
"Miss Hart, I’m so sorry! You shouldn’t have had to go through this terrible experience at our resort! I apologize sincerely on behalf of the resort!"
He straightened up, continuing respectfully.
"Regarding the renovation contract, we’re more than willing to cooperate with you. To show our sincerity, we’ll increase the contract amount to two million dollars. The contract is already prepared—we can deliver it to your designated location this afternoon. Additionally, we’ll provide you and Mr. Brown with a lifetime free vacation package. We hope this can make up for what happened."
Isabella was stunned—she hadn’t expected such a turnaround.
"Thank you, Mr. Thompson."
"You’re too kind—this is the least we can do," Anthony said humbly.
Isabella walked out of the office.
The sunlight fell on her, dispelling all the darkness.
She immediately dialed Jack’s number.
"Jack! You’re amazing! Powell was fired! Mr. Thompson increased the contract to two million dollars! He’ll send the contract this afternoon!"
Her voice was filled with excitement and joy.
On the other end of the line, Jack’s voice was gentle, with a hint of relief.
"That’s great. I’m glad you’re okay. I’m already at the resort gate."
Isabella ran downstairs and saw Jack striding toward her.
She rushed over, throwing herself into his arms.
"Jack, you really did it! They have nothing to say now!"
Jack held her tightly, feeling her joy.
He whispered in her ear: "I told you I’d make them have nothing to say. And this is just the beginning."
