This entire scene left the woman perplexed; she stared at Elion from the outside with disbelief before shifting her gaze to the screen before her. There was a specific thing that was certain: for one to be able to survive the Dream Piercer device, they must be able to awaken an attribute, even if it is a weak one, and that will be detected by the machine. But in the case of Elion, it prompted something different—a kind of error the woman had never seen in her days of work.

She urged Elion to remove his hand and place it on the glass again. “Please remove your hand and replace it back on the glass again.”

When Elion did as she had asked, the same error showed as before, but this time it added another error message:

[Attribute not detected]

The woman saw this as something that wasn’t supposed to be possible, and so she gestured for her colleagues to come over so they could see the situation for themselves. When they did—about four of them—they were stunned as well.

“How is this possible…”

“Could he have sneaked into the chamber just to have a chance at enrolling for the hunters’ paying opportunity? Probably he must have awakened his core since before now and wants to fake an act…” another of the men she had called asked. His hands rested on his shoulders as he gazed down at Elion, who stood in their middle, also confused and a little bit scared.

The man who had just spoken was immediately shushed by the woman. “Listen to your dumb words. The boy is sixteen, and even though he faked an act, then the device should have shown that he has an attribute, but he has none.”

The woman had a point, and it was now the man realized it. If Elion had faked being an awakener for the sole purpose of getting a chance into the attribute detector machine for a way into enrolling in the vanguard armies, then his attribute could have been detected. Apart from that, the chamber is heavily guarded, making it impossible for Elion to sneak in.

They all agreed on what to do next, and among the four men, one of them suggested, “I think we should relate this situation to the General.”

They all agreed. The reason they were all stunned was because they had never made an entry of such in their entire life of being placed in the duty they were currently on.

The General they were referring to is the person in charge of the entire chamber and awakening. And if something like this, which had never happened before, is detected, then reporting to him was the best thing to do.

Elion was taken out of the chamber section and was led by the woman to another section of the facility, leading to an office. She pressed her hands on the white massive door and so it rolled open. Before them was a gray-haired man; he wasn’t old, he was young with huge muscles and an eyepatch on his left eye.

The lady held Elion’s hands before yanking him behind her. Elion was scared just by staring at the man, which is why he had hidden behind the lady.

“What is the problem…” the huge, muscled man asked. His name is Muzan, one of the feared men known for his powerful strength and strong attribute of lightning.

“It’s the boy. Something seems to be out of the ordinary going on with him,” the lady replied.

Muzan chuckled, his voice sounding in a grunt. “What exactly do you mean?”

“The boy doesn’t have an attribute, let alone detected as an awakener, but he had somehow survived the Dream Piercers,” the lady explained.

This got Muzan stunned. Something of such had never happened before, and before concluding that the boy must have sneaked in, he wished to do a quick investigation. If Elion had truly gone through the Dream Piercer, then he must have a record, because every participant has records.

Muzan requested for the record, and when it arrived, he went through it and saw that Elion was truly registered for the awakening and was located in Dream Piercer machine two hundred and five.

Muzan gently lifted his gaze to Elion, who stood before him. Thereafter, he shifted his gaze to the woman who had brought Elion. He shoved his hands into the air before gently speaking. “You can take your leave now. I want to have a conversation with the boy.”

The woman wished she could ask more questions—if they should keep the boy in restrainment or not—but since she had presented the situation to the superior, then she had nothing to do unless awaiting the final orders.

She bowed her head in respect before exiting the office.

The man then smiled at Elion before gesturing for him to sit on the couch facing the man.

Elion was scared to the bone. His encounter with the three men from the Dream Piercer had terrified him to the bone, so just by looking at Muzan who was before him, it made him feel like he was going to get killed.

Elion took a seat just as instructed. His fingers folded into his palms and his teeth gently gritted against each other.

And just then, Muzan’s deep voice sounded. “What is your name?”

Muzan had seen the kid’s name on the file he had went through, but he wanted to hear how brave the kid was from his voice.

Elion’s lips trembled as he replied. “My name is Elion.”

“Your age?” Muzan asked again, not giving even a single chance for Elion to breathe.

Elion swallowed down his saliva before giving the reply. “I’m sixteen years old.”

“You seem scared…” Muzan chuckled. He lifted his hands from the desk they were relaxed on before leaning his back softly on the chair he was seated in. “As a hunter, being scared is a weakness you have to let go of.” Muzan’s brow then furrowed before continuing. “Or don’t you want to be a hunter?”

Elion shook his head frantically before replying. “My dream is to become a hunter.”

“Then why are you scared of me? Or do I appear to be terrifying?” Muzan grunted, and it was as though Elion was going to melt down.

The man appeared to be very terrifying, but Elion couldn’t just tell it to his face.

Muzan then took a deep breath. “Stay calm, kid. I’m just curious on how you have survived, and also why you didn’t have an attribute after surviving.”

Elion wished he could answer that question, but even he doesn’t know. And just then, Muzan’s voice continued. “Let me see your chest.”

The only way to know if they were not hallucinating was if the burned mark on Elion’s chest faded out, because for any person that goes into the device and survives, the mark—which is the spell illness—is supposed to fade out.

Elion pulled out his shirt, and to his greatest surprise, the mark was still there. It had even spread even more.

Elion froze in shock. Muzan did as well.

What could be happening? The boy went into the machine and survived, and not only was he not having an attribute, but the ill eye didn’t leave him.

The thought crossed Muzan’s mind as he stared directly at Elion, whose face was already pale. When he woke up from the Dream Piercer machine, he didn’t bother to even check his chest to see if the mark had faded out just the way it was supposed to, which is why realizing it now sent a shiver down his spine.

He knew one thing for sure, which was making sure he reached his destination.Soon after a long run that lasted forever, Elion reached his stepfather’s house. He was still drenched in rain, but he drove himself forward, and just as he was about to open the door, he heard the sound of a loud, stroking slap, followed by a loud shout from his sister Clara; it sounded like the impact of the slap sent her crashing to the ground.Elion’s anger flared. He knew this was definitely his stepfather again, maltreating his sister as usual, and he wouldn’t be able to let something such as this slide anymore. Elion stared at Muzan and Muzan stared back. He was trying his possible best to contain himself, and when he did, he smiled gently at the boy before suddenly frowning. “Sorry kid, we can’t accept you into the Hunters Academy. If you had awakened your core and as well have an attribute, then you would have had the chance of partaking in the process of becoming a Hunter.”Elion’s eyes widened in disbelief after hearing this. He was more terrified compared to the devil being he just saw. The bird mark on his chest didn’t fade out, thus it didn’t make any difference. If the spell didn’t kill him at thirteen when he was supposed to, then what makes it become something that will kill him now that he’s sixteen?Elion leaned forward, his eyes welling up in tears as he tried to speak. “Please sir, this has always been my dream. I want to become a Hunter. I want to help fight those monsters that have been the cause of my father’s death and as well protect the city.”Tears dropped down from Elio
