Elijah also picked up the ink and pressed his signature on the certificate.

"I'll protect you, Serena. I promise on my life," He tried to hold her hand, but she gently slapped him off.

How dare he pretend to be great?

Old man DiLaurentis was engrossed in the certificate to notice this.

The smile on his face grew wide and this surprised the members of the family.

They had never seen him this happy before.

If Serena were getting married to a powerful man, they would understand his joy, but this....

"This marriage has my blessings, "The old man announced and then added, "I'm promoting you from Director at the health department to the CEO of the branch, consider this my gift to you, Serena"

She couldn't believe her ears.

Over the years, she had submitted a lot of letters to get herself promoted but the old man never even bothered to take a look.

Now, he's making her the CEO of the DiLaurentis branch company and she didn't even ask.

Was this a compensation for marrying her off to a riff-raff?

Despite her current anger, she still said respectfully to him, "Thank you for the consideration, Grandpa. I promise to do my best"

She could not reject his gift because she truly wanted that position.

As the CEO, she could do more and gain more respect from her peers.

"Also, I need you to introduce your husband to the family business. He could replace you as the director of the health department"

On hearing this, Serena's face turned ashen and she couldn't stop herself from protesting this time, "Director? What's his medical certification?"

To her, it was obvious that Elijah knew nothing about medicine.

If her Grandfather had mentioned security or a gatekeeper, she wouldn't have argued.

"Do you want to go against my wish?" The old man appeared to be getting angry.

Elijah stepped in quickly to say, "My wife speaks sense. I'll just join the health department as an apprentice and learn"

The medical practices he was well-versed in could be different from theirs.

More importantly, he didn't want his new wife to argue with the old man.

The old man appeared to become calm after hearing Elijah, "If that's what you think is best for you, son-in-law, then I won't stop you. Take your husband home, Serena"

With that, he beckoned to two guards, and they helped him out of the great hall.

The commotion returned as everyone began to give their opinion about the old man's decision.

Serena's eyes filled with tears as she ran quickly and hugged her mother.

"Mom, I want to die? Why did Grandpa shame me this way?"

Margaret held her tightly and whispered, "Don't talk about death. My father doesn't know what he's doing. Give me a few days, I'll talk to him and he'll change his mind"

"Mom, are you sure about this?" She sobbed.

"Mom is Grandpa's favorite daughter. He will surely listen" The one who spoke was Serena's younger sister.

She didn't look like Serena but had the same height even though she was four years younger.

"That's right," Margaret said proudly, "Once I show your Grandfather better men. He would denounce your marriage to this trash"

She glared dangerously at Elijah, who was still in the same spot.

"Mom, I don't want to get married" Serena protested.

"Do you want to grow old alone?" Margaret scolded her daughter, "I'll bring one of your rich suitors to my father. Once you agree to marry him, we'll throw this one away to the street where he came from"

Her eyes shifted from Elijah to the middle-aged man beside her on the table.

He wasn't contributing to the conversation and was engrossed in the reels on his phone instead.

"Don't you have a spine?" She snatched the phone from him, "Our daughter was just tied to a scum and you just sit here. How can you call yourself a man of this family?"

"Am I supposed to argue with your father?" Richard asked lazily.

He got up to his feet, "I'm going home. Welcome to our family, son-in-law"

Richard glanced at Elijah before making his way out of the hall.

"Richard, stop right there! Don't even think you can leave" Margaret's body shook with rage as she hurried after him.

Serena and her sister also made their way after their parents.

Elijah was left standing alone in the hall.

From what he just watched happen, Margaret was the one who had the energy in the family and not Richard.

He was only a husband in name.

Would this be what his relationship with Serena turns out to be?

He must prove to her that he's worthy to be by her side and help her with her problems.

The housekeeper soon appeared by Elijah's side and said to him, "I'll take you to your wife's house in the Estate if you don't mind"

Elijah went with him and in no time, they arrived at a luxurious apartment behind the main Estate building.

Elijah went in while the housekeeper left.

As he entered, the eyes of his new family all turned to him from the dining table where they all sat.

Wasn't it just a few minutes ago when Margaret was fighting with her husband?

"You actually found your way here. I thought you would get lost and get bitten by the yard dog," Rosalie, Serena's sister, said with a hint of disgust.

Serena didn't even glance at him and continued eating as Margaret added to her plate.

"Son-in-law, you must be hungry. Join us" Richard invited Elijah over, tapping on the empty seat by his side.

Margaret's face scrunched up and she protested, "I cook for my family not this nobody"

"Just give him some food, Mom." Serena intervened before her parent began to fight again.

"Thank you wifey," Elijah said full of smiles but didn't expect her to reprimand him immediately,

"Don't call me that nonsense. I'm Serena. If you call me that nonsense at the office, I'll kill you"

He couldn't believe his ears.

Was this how a newlywed couple was supposed to live?

She always threatened to kill him at any given opportunity.

All these years, he had endured the hard training from his master with one goal in mind, to take vengeance for the atrocities done to his family.

But he must abide by the rule set by the master who had saved his life.

Punish only those who truly deserve punishment.

Kill only those who truly deserved to be killed.

When he returned, he found out that the DiLaurentis had suffered greatly because they had stolen the body of his mother and buried her honorably.

Her body would have been thrown into a river filled with wild creatures just like the other members of his family.

Now that he was married into their family, they would suffer no more.

Anyone who dares to bully them.... will surely die at his hands.

Anyone who dares to be reckless in my established District N Dine will face the consequences..." He raised his chin high. The five young ladies could not stop staring at one another, confusion and shock mingling in the air. Was this Manager Rufus really the brother of the patriarch of the Carrington family? Rachael covered her mouth in shock and mumbled, “Obed, are you alright?”There was no response from him.“He will never be alright. With ruptured internal organs, he is as good as dead. Who is next in line?” Master Tate said in a matter-of-fact tone. The other bodyguards were shocked by the outcome, but that didn’t stop Anthony from taking a step forward. “I knew he didn’t have what it takes to be a bodyguard. Don’t be smug—you have unfortunately met me today. I come from the Northern District team of underrated bodyguards and used to be ranked number one. My punch is capable of destroying a punching bag…”“Well then, show me. For you, I’ll give you an opportunity of five moves; after that, I won’t hold back,” Master Tate said gently, as though he were talking to a child. This made Anthony angry. “Five moves? You really know how to talk. Don’t blame me when I break your mouth with one move…”He took a step as light as a feather and attacked faster than one would expect.Aria smirked a

The five young ladies, Rosalie included, looked in Aria's direction and, as expected, nodded in agreement. Who was this weak bodyguard to think he could stand in their way today?Rosalie didn't even spare Elijah a glance and was fully in line with her friends. What if he agreed to be her bodyguard today? Didn't she warn him to keep his mouth shut and not act up? Now he's gotten into trouble and he expects her to take his side? Hmph! Dream on.Her wealthy colleagues mattered more to her than this useless brother-in-law, who was here to cause trouble for her. She would not hesitate to cut him off and stand by while they had him beaten today. Only she knew that Elijah Langston was not a professional bodyguard like the others and would not be able to defend himself."Rosalie, don't you have a problem with this? He's your bodyguard, right?" Fiona asked, keeping her eyes on Rosalie's reaction.Rosalie waved her off dismissively. "Bodyguard? Hmph! In my mind, I've relieved him of his dut

Was this what he was driving at the other time?Gaining confidence from this, Aria quickly stepped up and said, "What if you are associated with an aristocratic family? Our family might not be aristocrats, but we cannot be bullied. Even Rosalie's family is great enough to own a privilege card.""Hmph!" Manager Rufus snarled. "If I say the card is stolen, then it's stolen. And if I say I don't accept privilege cards in District N Dine, then that's the law. In this place my word is law. If you pay the $500 million right now, I'll let you five leave.""$500 million. What nonsense?" Phoebe almost shouted. The man puffed his chest mischievously and said, "I don't accept

The dining area quieted in an instant, and everyone wore different emotions on their faces: shock, surprise, disbelief, and more. The only one who did not show the slightest change in expression was Elijah Langston. His look remained stoic, but there was a knowing thought in his mind. He didn't expect anything less when the card was swiped. They might not know, but that was a Sovereign Privilege Card, which he obtained as a gift from a powerful world organization for his service to his country some five years ago. He wasn't always on the mountain during the fifteen-year stretch, but pretending to forget the things that happened outside the mountain was better kept that way. This complimentary transaction card automatically reduced all transactions within the country to $0.00 while still marking the payment as successful. Rosalie's face turned as white as a sheet of paper and she blinked her large eyes, unsure of what she had just heard."What do you mean?"Fiona raised her chin slightly and said, "Since you're the youngest among us five, we've never allowed you to pay any bill even though your family own a big medical corporation that's worth several billions."This made Rosalie grit her teeth but she managed to keep her expression hidden. She had always kept her DiLaurentis name from her friends and would always tell them how big her family's business was in Brooklyn Heights. The DiLaurentis business could be worth a few billion dollars, but everything was tied up in the running operation.Taking out as little as $1 million might even disrupt operations and leave them bankrupt.Even now that her family had been blacklisted by the Lancasters, they would continue to be at a loss daily until they declared bankruptcy.Where could she ever find a sum as large as $250 million? That's impossible—a big joke.
