Elijah and Mia arrived at an old district in the suburbs of Brooklyn Heights and located a small bungalow behind the district's graveyard.
As they closed on the building, they noticed the commotion at the entrance and hurried quickly to see some rough-looking men hanging around with weapons. "If you don't give us this house today, we'll bury you inside of it." The leader of the group had a great stature, and the scar across his face was terrifying. He was talking to a middle-aged woman who stood petrified with tears in her eyes. "Aunt Lena, what's going on?" Mia hurried quickly to her mother's sister who was shivering at the center of this commotion. "Mia, you're here" The woman spoke regretfully, "It's my fault, I needed to pay to renew your mother's space at the graveyard but I had no money so I borrowed from the loan shark" "Loan shark?" Mia's eyes widened in shock. In Brooklyn Heights, everyone knew the loan shark was bad news and should be avoided at any cost. They were associated with the underground crime network of the city and would do a lot of evil to those who borrowed from them and failed to pay. Even the police department would not dare crack down on the loan shark organization for fear of being beaten to death. Aunty Lena sobbed, "I know I'm wrong, Mia, but I couldn't watch your mother get dug out of her resting place. She won't forgive me" Mia couldn't blame her Aunt, as even she might have done the same thing for her mother. "Aunt Lena, now that I'm here, I'll work hard with you and pay them back the money" The leader of the group laughed loudly and puffed his chest, "What money? We don't want your money anymore, we are taking this house as our own" As he spoke, the terrifying men took imposing steps forward, brandishing the knives and sharp weapons in their hands. Mia couldn't help but be scared by this sight. Still, she managed to say, "Don't be this way, this house is all that my mother left for us. Just give us one week and we'll find the money" "One week?" The leader laughed again, "We've given you enough one week, today, we won't leave without this house or we'll draw blood" "Isn't there anything we can do?" Mia begged, "If I work hard, I'll raise your money quickly and pay back twice what we owe" She emphasized twice to pacify the men, but the leader wouldn't budge. He continued to brandish the knife in his hand, "Maybe we can do something...." His eyes ran over Mia lustfully and she shyly covered herself. "Just a few days Mr. and we'll find your money" "No!" He stamped his feet arrogantly on the floor, then added, "You have really good skin, why don't you come accompany my sick boss? I'm sure he'll be well once he touches a beautiful woman" Mia's face turned a little pale and she took a step back, "We'll find your money, don't be this way" "Well, I don't need money anymore; what I need now is you for my sick boss." The leader of the group grinned from ear to ear. If he brings such a beauty to the chair-ridden, sick boss, he would surely be rewarded in some way. He held his knife tighter and tried to move. "If I heal your sick boss, you won't bother this family again." A voice no one expected came from the side, and they all turned in awe. Elijah stepped forward confidently and spoke again, "I'll heal your sick boss but you must agree to leave this family in the future, consider their debts paid" The leader of the group turned fully to Elijah and barked, "Heal my boss, who do you think you are?" "Big brother is a Doctor, he knows a lot about medicine" Mia was quick to step in and back him up. "Hmph! A doctor...?" The man looked at the appearance of Elijah from head to toe, "Then let him hurry up and pay me times fives of your debts or I'll bring his insides out" He flexed the knife in their line of sight. "I'm offering to heal your boss now, there might be no second chance," Elijah spoke very calmly, and this only surprised the leader even more. "You, heal my boss, you don't even know his sickness" Elijah raised his fingers up slightly, "There's no sickness this hand cannot find a solution to" This might seem like bragging but it was very much true. Fifteen years on the mountain with one of the greatest Grandmasters to exist in this world, he had served as his disciple and learnt his way. Everything his master knew about healing techniques, pill refinement, and rare alchemy, he taught him to perfection. Even the Grandmaster on the mount became intrigued at the rate Elijah learnt his ways fast. Before his master vanished, he started to call him, Elijah: the healing hands of the gods. The leader of the group started to laugh again and his men joined him too because they understood. In five years, no doctor in this world has found a solution to the sickness of their underground boss. It became worse until he retreated to hide his face from the world. Many doctors have claimed to have solutions but in the end, they had their fingers broken or worse, removed permanently. Since then, doctors and healing practitioners have run away from the name of their boss and wouldn't even want to come near. Yet this ordinary-looking man claims to be a Doctor and is boasting about healing that sickness. The leader tucked his knife in place and cleared his throat, "Since you are eager to die, I'll help you with it. Then I'll come back here, take this house, and take this woman for my boss" Mia subconsciously took a step back and hugged her aunt. "And if I heal your boss?" Elijah demanded. "We'll not cross this place in our lifetime anymore, and even our boss will give you whatever you ask for. As for me, I'll become a dog you can call on anytime. In this district and beyond, I'm a feared handler" Hearing the leader of the group, Elijah casually said, "All I need is for you to stay away from these people and consider their debts paid" He wanted Mia and her aunt to live comfortably in that house without a terrible loan shark group bothering them. "If that's what you want. I'll take you to my boss now," The leader grinned.Latest Chapter
Chapter 374
The Great Hall descended into pure chaos as the remaining disciples of the Iron Crescent Sword Sect completely lost their minds to bloodlust.Dozens of razor-sharp blades formed a suffocating, inescapable net of steel, all descending upon Elijah Langston at the exact same time. They attacked like a pack of starving wolves, abandoning all defensive forms in favor of sheer, overwhelming violence. Swords slashed horizontally toward his neck, thrust forward aiming to pierce his heart, and swept low to sever his legs. The air was filled with the terrifying whoosh of cutting steel and the maddened roars of men seeking to avenge their fallen Branch Leader. A coordinated strike designed to chop a man into a hundred unrecognizable pieces in the span of a single breath.“Damn it! Fall back or you’ll get caught in the crossfire!” one of the gunmen positioned at the rear of the hall cursed with a loud, frustrated voice. The mercenaries all had their military-grade assault rifles raised and saf
Chapter 373
The result of the violent sword technique was blinding: Elijah Langston was completely enveloped in a barrage of glowing crescent lights.Explosive noise ripped up into the air, filling the entire room with a deafening noise of shattering marble and splintering wood, and leaving everyone in the Great Hall stunned by the destructive result. The disciples of the Iron Crescent Sword Sect couldn’t help but gloat upon seeing what had just happened.“He didn’t even stand a chance. All it took was a single technique attack from Branch Leader Marco!”“Hmph! Can any outsider stand a chance against our sect’s special Golden Crescent Annihilation technique? He’ll be lucky if there’s anything left of his body to scrape off the floor tonight.”“So, this is the guy who’s giving people trouble under the name Insolent Expert? Even I would be able to handle him. He doesn’t even come close to Leader Marco. True strength doesn’t lie in sneak attacks and running the mouth!”They all said this while looki
Chapter 372
Unlike the deceased Mathias, who had tried to close the gap before executing his strike, Marco was on an entirely different level of mastery. As his body tore through the air, so did the heavy sword in his hand. He began swiping and slashing in a series of complex, bending arc movements while still in mid-air.What followed each devastating strike was a terrifying outburst of pure internal energy erupting from the blade. It perfectly followed the arc shape of his sword movements, manifesting as blinding, yellow crescent waves that glowed with a lethal luminescence. The energy blades were moving far too fast to be easily tracked by the naked eyes of an ordinary person. These various crescent energy waves tore through the air with a dangerous, explosive force. They collided with the massive, oak table situated at the center of the room, cleanly slicing through the thick, centuries-old wood as if it were wet tissue paper. Unimpeded, the glowing arcs headed straight for Elijah, who stoo
Chapter 371
Elijah Langston looked down at the discarded steel resting near his shoes. He didn’t flinch, or even scramble for the weapon. He simply raised his head, a faint, mocking smile playing on his lips as he looked Marco dead in the eyes.“You rehearsed that in front of a mirror, didn’t you?” Elijah asked, his tone dripping with patronizing amusement. “Be honest. We won’t let a word of this outside of here, right, guys?”He casually gestured toward the wall of heavily armed hostiles standing in front of him, treating them like an audience at a bad comedy show.Marco’s eyes turned a violent, bloodshot red, completely abandoning whatever composure he had left. His grip tightened around the hilt of his broadsword until his knuckles popped, the razor-sharp tip pointing directly at Elijah’s chest. “You!? Do you think your sharp tongue can save you tonight? Do you think I’ll turn my back and allow you to sneak-attack me? Hmph! That’s not happening.”The tactical mercenaries were losing their pati
Chapter 370
The moment the name “Elijah Langston” left Marco’s trembling lips, the atmosphere in the Great Hall changed. The sect members who hadn’t yet drawn their weapons scrambled backward, the sharp shing of steel ringing out in a panicked chorus as they took up desperate defensive stances. Behind them, the tactical mercenaries clicked the safeties off their military-grade assault rifles.Dozens of black muzzles and gleaming sword tips locked directly onto the young man standing by the throne. They had not expected Senior Mathias’s gruesome, effortless death a moment ago. But now, they realized their fatal error. This wasn’t a homeless squatter or a confused street rat—this was the Insolent Expert, the one they had been sent to butcher. Yet, looking at him… was he really this young? Was this casually dressed twenty-something really the nightmare currently causing trouble for the great families of Brooklyn Heights?“Insolent Expert? I find that title rather offensive,” Elijah noted, his tone
Chapter 369
The group of sect members hailed him with exaggerated praise. They all leaned forward in eager anticipation, because the Phantom Five-Strike Severance was a legendary move that only a few senior disciples of the Iron Crescent Sword, in all of Sorevia had perfected. It was said to be capable of slicing a thick bamboo stalk into five equal parts in the blink of an eye. Now, they were going to witness it used on a real human being.“Watch and learn, you inexperienced juniors! I won’t repeat myself!” Mathias warned, his gaze narrowing into focus. With a sharp exhale, Mathias leaned forward, and his body practically vanished. He tore through the air at a terrifying, explosive speed that only his fellow sect members were trained enough to track. To the gunmen in the back, he appeared to simply vanish. In one second, Mathias was standing with the group; in the next, he had arrived directly in front of the golden throne where the young man was still seated, entirely engrossed in his writing.
