For a long moment—

No one spoke.

No one even breathed.

Then—

“That’s impossible!!”

Emma’s shrill scream shattered the silence.

She stepped forward, her face twisted with disbelief, finger pointing straight at Conor.

“There’s no way this is real!” she snapped. “John has already fled the city! DragonTech just fired him—there’s no one left who could help us! So this is a lie!”

Her voice rose higher, almost hysterical.

“You expect us to believe you arranged this?!” she laughed sharply. “Who do you think you are?!”

She turned to the others, eyes blazing.

“This is fake! It has to be fake! That call—he must have arranged it in advance! A staged call, a fake invitation—just to fool us!”

Murmurs broke out again.

Ronan, who had been stunned moments ago, slowly narrowed his eyes.

“…Fake?” he muttered.

Doubt crept back into his expression.

He looked at Conor again—this time more carefully.

Simple clothes.

Calm demeanor.

No sign of wealth or power.

Could someone like this… really command DragonTech?

Conor, however, only shrugged lightly.

“The truth will be clear tomorrow,” he said casually. “What are you afraid of?”

Emma’s teeth clenched.

“Fine!” she snapped. “Tomorrow, I’ll personally expose your lie!”

Ronan remained silent for a moment, weighing everything.

Finally, he spoke.

“…You can stay.”

Olivia blinked in surprise.

But before she could react—

“In the basement,” Ronan added coldly. “The storage room.”

The words landed like a verdict.

A few people snickered quietly.

Olivia’s expression darkened. “Grandfather, that’s too—”

“I’ve already decided,” Ronan cut her off.

All eyes turned to Conor.

Would he refuse?

Would he finally reveal his “true identity”?

But instead—

Conor simply nodded.

“Sure,” he said calmly.

No anger.

No resistance.

Just acceptance.

Ronan let out a cold snort.

As expected… he thought. If he were truly someone important, would he agree to sleep in a storage room?

All talk. No substance.

His earlier unease completely vanished.

Tomorrow, his lie will collapse on its own.

But Conor…

Didn’t care.

Storage room? he thought faintly.

A flicker of memory crossed his mind—

War zones.

Deserts.

Frozen mountains.

Sleeping on concrete floors, under gunfire, with nothing but a coat.

Compared to that—

This was practically luxury.

****

The next morning.

The Nelson family arrived at the summit venue, dressed in their finest formal attire.

Luxury cars lined the entrance.

Security was tight.

The atmosphere—elite.

Ronan adjusted his suit, his expression tense.

“Call Carl again,” he said.

Emma frowned, holding her phone. “I’ve been calling him all morning—he’s not answering.”

Olivia stood quietly, her gaze drifting toward Conor.

He looked… completely at ease.

As if none of this mattered.

It only made her more confused.

Who are you… really…?

As they stepped out of the car—

“Carl!”

Ronan’s eyes lit up.

Standing proudly near the entrance was Carl, dressed sharply, his posture confident.

Ronan hurried over.

“Carl, why didn’t you answer our calls?” he asked anxiously. “We’ve been trying to reach you!”

Carl turned—

And froze.

For a split second, genuine shock flashed across his face.

Why are they here?! he thought. They shouldn’t even know this place!

But he recovered quickly, forcing a composed smile.

“My phone… broke,” he said smoothly. “I’ve been busy handling arrangements.”

He adjusted his cuffs.

“Unfortunately, partnership slots are already full,” he added. “It’ll be difficult for—”

Before he could finish—

Emma stepped forward eagerly.

“Of course they’re full!” she said loudly, shooting a triumphant glance at Conor. “Because someone here was lying!”

She crossed her arms, sneering.

“Grandfather, it’s obvious now—Carl is the one who secured our invitation. That man’s ‘call’ yesterday was completely fake!”

Carl blinked.

“…What?” he said, genuinely confused.

“I didn’t—”

But before he could clarify—

A sudden stir rippled through the crowd.

“Look!”

“Someone important just arrived!”

“Is that…?”

A hushed voice spread rapidly:

“It’s Cristina—the CEO’s secretary from DragonTech!”

Instantly, the atmosphere changed.

All eyes turned.

A poised woman stepped out of a sleek black car, dressed impeccably, her aura sharp and professional.

Though “just a secretary,” everyone knew—

She was the CEO’s closest aide.

Her status… was extraordinary.

Cristina glanced down at her phone, checking a photo.

Then she lifted her gaze—

Scanning the crowd.

Slowly.

Precisely.

Then—

She began walking forward.

Straight toward Carl’s group.

Carl’s heart skipped a beat.

She’s coming here?!

His chest swelled with excitement.

Of course… it must be for me.

He quickly straightened his posture, smoothing his suit, lowering his voice urgently.

“Stand properly,” he whispered to the Nelson family. “Don’t embarrass yourselves.”

Ronan and Emma immediately nodded, nervous and excited.

Carl stepped forward confidently, extending his hand with a polite smile.

“Miss Cristina,” he said smoothly, “it’s an honor to—”

She walked right past him.

Didn’t even glance at his hand.

Carl’s smile froze.

His arm hung awkwardly in midair.

Cristina stopped.

Right in front of—

Olivia.

Olivia blinked, completely caught off guard.

Cristina’s expression softened into a polite, professional smile.

She extended her hand.

“You must be Ms. Olivia Nelson,” she said warmly.

“Welcome to our partnership summit.”

Carl, on the other hand—Was smiling. But there was no warmth in it.“What exactly do you think you’re doing?” Ronan snapped, his voice low but filled with fury. “Throwing yourself at a man in public like that? Have you completely forgotten your place?”Olivia’s expression tightened.“It wasn’t like that—”“Then what was it?” Ronan cut in harshly. “Celebrating? Over what? Embarrassing yourself in front of everyone?”Emma crossed her arms, her lips curling slightly.“Honestly, Olivia,” she said lightly, “you could at least try to maintain some dignity.”Carl chuckled softly.“Now, now,” he said, his tone dripping with mock amusement. “Let’s not be too hard on her.”He took a step closer, eyes narrowing slightly as he studied her.“Judging by that reaction…” he continued, a smirk forming, “you must have received some good news.”He tilted his head.“What is it? Did the Norman family secure the entry-level partnership?”Olivia looked at him.For a second—The earlier excitement faded. An

“P-Please…” he choked out. “Please, I have a family, I—” “Take him away.” No hesitation. No sympathy. The guards didn’t wait another second. “Move.” “No—wait! Please! I’m begging you—!” His voice echoed loudly as he was dragged through the crowd. “I’m sorry! I’m really sorry! Please—just one more chance—!” The doors shut behind him. And just like that— He was gone. Silence lingered for a moment. Then slowly— The tension broke. Whispers turned into conversations again, but this time filled with shock, not suspicion. “I can’t believe that just happened…” “That poor girl…” “He almost got away with it too…” Olivia stood there, unmoving. Then— She let out a long, shaky breath. “…it was just a scammer,” she whispered, more to herself than anyone else. Her shoulders, tight from fear and humiliation, finally loosened. The tears that had been threatening to fall didn’t come anymore. Relief washed over her instead. Cristina turned toward her. And for the first time—

Olivia froze. Thrown out? Here? In front of everyone? Her vision blurred slightly, tears gathering despite her effort to hold them back. “Conor…” she whispered. But Conor didn’t move. Didn’t argue. Didn’t explain. He just stood there— Looking at the man. And the temperature around him seemed to drop. The guards hesitated for a fraction of a second before stepping closer. “Sir, ma’am,” one of them said formally, “we’re going to have to ask you to—” “Hey.” A voice cut in. Low. Flat. Right behind the man. A hand landed lightly on his shoulder. Tap. The man’s face twisted instantly with irritation. He jerked his shoulder away as he turned. “Who the hell do you think you are?” he snapped. “How dare you touch me? Do you have any idea who I—” His words faltered. Because standing behind him— Was Nick. The annoyance on his face deepened, anger flaring again. “And you—” he started, clearly ready to lash out— Then he saw her. Cristina.

For a second—He genuinely thought he misheard.“…The Nelson family?” he asked slowly.Conor didn’t even look at him. “Mm.”Nick stared at him. Then looked back at the list. Then back at Conor.“…King,” he said carefully, “the Nelson family’s total assets are barely over ten million.”He tapped the screen lightly.“These people?” he said quietly. “Every single one is worth over five hundred million.”His voice dropped further.“If you place the Nelson family here… it won’t elevate them.”A pause.“It’ll crush them.”Too much attention.Too much pressure.Too many eyes. They wouldn’t survive it.Conor considered that for exactly one second. Then—He shrugged.“Fine.”Nick blinked again.“Then just add them as an entry-level partner,” Conor said casually. “Any cooperation from DragonTech is enough.”His tone was indifferent. As if discussing something trivial.“Give them a project, a contract… whatever,” he added. “Their value will multiply several times anyway.”Nick stared at him.The

“You…?” she said, clearly caught off guard. “Weren’t you on the same flight as us?”Nick paused for half a second.Just half—But for someone like him, that was already a mistake.Conor’s gaze flicked toward him, sharp and unreadable. He hadn’t wanted Nick here in the first place—and now this. His fingers shifted slightly in his pocket.A subtle signal.Handle it.Nick caught it instantly. His expression relaxed—just enough.“Yeah,” he said, letting out a small, awkward chuckle. “What a coincidence, right?”Olivia frowned slightly. “What are you doing here?”Nick scratched the back of his neck, deliberately playing the part.“Well… actually…” he hesitated, then lowered his voice a little, as if embarrassed. “I have a distant relative working at DragonTech.”Olivia’s eyes widened a fraction.Nick continued quickly, filling in the gap before she could question further.“Not anyone too high up,” he added modestly. “Just… enough to get me in. I figured I’d come and see the world a bit. Br

Even more confident than before. “Mr. Ronan Nelson,” he said calmly. Ronan immediately looked over. “Carl! Any news?” Carl nodded, adjusting his sleeves. “The Norman family has officially been listed as a potential partner of DragonTech.” Silence. Then— “What?!” Emma gasped. Ronan’s eyes widened. “Is that true?!” Carl smiled faintly. “Of course.” Relief flooded Ronan’s face. “Good… good! That’s excellent!” Emma shot a glance toward the entrance, her earlier frustration easing slightly. Carl continued, his tone casual—but deliberate. “As for that invitation…” he said, glancing lightly in the direction Conor had gone, “it was likely just luck.” Emma immediately nodded. “Exactly! That’s what I said!” Carl chuckled softly. “Getting through the door is one thing. Securing actual cooperation… is another.” He let that sink in. Ronan’s expression grew serious again. Yes. That was the key. Without real partnership— Titan Group would still be a threat
