“What did you say?!” Ava looked horrified. “Apologize to Mr. Hayes! NOW!”

“Logan, I’ll give you one last chance. Tell Charlotte to show up at my house tonight.”

Stepping foward, Liam’s piggy face quivered with rage.

“As for you—get on your knees and kiss my ass, or I’ll make sure you rot in the pit.”

A chill flashed in Logan’s eyes, his lips curled into a cold smile.

“You think I’ll kneel to you, a pumpkin-headed joke?”

He wasn’t the same man they used to step on.

He was the real power behind Rhine Corporation now.

“Shut up, you filthy mouth!” Liam’s face darkened.

Then he raised his head arrogantly, “You’re just scum—what could you possibly understand?”

“I’m Rhine’s COO. I could crush your wife’s company with simply one phone call! And all you can do is coming back to me and kiss my ass.”

“If that’s the case,” Logan said lightly, his expression calm and indifferent, “then I suppose I’ll just strip you of everything today.”

What the fuck?!

“Selena… what do you mean by that?” Charlotte asked carefully, her tone calm but insistent. She kept her voice steady, though her heart was racing. She wanted the truth—needed it—but she was also afraid of what that truth might expose. Years of hurt had taught her caution, especially where Selena was concerned. Selena swallowed hard, the lump in her throat tightening until it felt like her words might never come out. Her fingers trembled as they twisted together in her lap. “Charlotte… I need you to understand,” she began, her voice barely above a whisper. “I… I have treated you horribly all these years. Ever since we were born, I never showed you love. Not once. I didn’t protect you, I didn’t care for you the way a sister should. I…” Her breath hitched. “I resented you for reasons I can barely explain. Sometimes I don’t even know why I hated you so much. But I did. And I took that resentment out on you in every way I could.” Charlotte’s brows knit together as she listen

  • Chapter 425

Selena’s death sat heavily in the air, like a dark cloud that refused to lift. The flashing lights of police vehicles had long disappeared from the street outside, and the distant echo of sirens had faded into nothingness. The living room felt smaller than it ever had before.Charlotte sat on the edge of the couch, her shoulders hunched inward as if she were trying to fold herself into nothing. Her eyes were swollen and red, her lashes clumped together with tears that refused to stop falling. A folded handkerchief trembled in her fingers, already damp and useless, but she held onto it anyway, as though letting go might cause her to shatter completely. Every few seconds, her chest hitched, sharp breaths breaking through her lips as another wave of grief surged through her.Logan stood a few steps away, motionless. His posture was rigid, his arms hanging stiffly at his sides, with his jaw clenched so tightly it throbbed with pain. He had faced danger before and had even stared vi

  • Chapter 424

The night had been unnaturally quiet before the gunshots shattered it.Selena lay motionless on the cold pavement, her body twisted at an unnatural angle beneath the dull glow of the streetlight. The faint hum of electricity overhead did nothing to soften the stillness surrounding her. Her eyes were half-open, staring at nothing, unfocused and empty, her lips parted as though she had been about to speak one last word—but never got the chance. The walking stick lay a short distance from her outstretched hand, its polished surface catching the light uselessly now, and her phone rested near her fingers, its screen cracked and dark, the call she never made frozen in silence. The two men stood over her for a brief moment. Their chests rose and fell sharply as they scanned the street. One of them crouched beside her, pressing two fingers against Selena’s neck. He held them there for several seconds, his face unreadable, then slowly withdrew his hand and shook his head.“She’s gone,” he

The moment Selena mentioned the street name, the silence on the other end of the call did not bring relief. It was not the ordinary pause of someone thinking or hesitating—it was heavier, deliberate, and dangerous, as though Barbara were carefully measuring every word she was about to unleash. “Ashwill Crescent,” Barbara repeated slowly at last. “So you’re not joking.”Selena tightened her grip on the phone, her knuckles paling. “I told you the truth. I went there. I told them everything,” she replied, forcing steadiness into her voice. “Barbara’s response came immediately, her voice rising with barely contained fury. “You foolish, ungrateful girl. Do you have any idea what you’ve done? You think leaking our plans makes you brave?” Her breath sounded harsh through the line. “You think you can betray me and walk away untouched?”“It makes me free,” Selena shot back, her tone sharp despite the rapid pounding of her heart. “And you can’t change that.”Barbara laughed then, but the

The phone vibrated sharply in Selena’s hand, slicing through the tense quiet of the night like a blade. She had just stepped beneath a flickering streetlight, its weak glow pulsing above her and casting long, distorted shadows across the cracked pavement. The street was otherwise silent, the kind of silence that made every small sound feel amplified. When Selena glanced down at the screen, her jaw tightened instantly. It was Barbara. For a brief moment, Selena considered letting the call ring out. Her thumb hovered over the screen as her heart beat faster, not from fear, but from the weight of what she already knew this call would bring. Barbara never called without reason. And when she did, it was never to ask—it was to command. Selena exhaled slowly. Avoiding the call would solve nothing. If anything, it would only confirm Barbara’s suspicions and provoke something worse. Steeling herself, Selena answered.“Hello?” she said, keeping her voice cool and even, carefully masking

The living room was heavy with tension, the kind that pressed down on the chest and made breathing feel deliberate rather than natural. Charlotte sat stiffly on the couch, her hands clasped so tightly in her lap that her knuckles had turned pale. Her eyes moved constantly between Logan and Selena, as though she were watching a silent battle unfold before her. The words Selena had spoken moments earlier still lingered in the air, sharp and unsettling. Barbara and the Sullivan family had plotted against them. Their lives were not just threatened—they were actively in danger.Yet Logan sat across from them with an almost unsettling calm. He leaned back slightly, his posture relaxed, his expression unreadable. If Selena hadn’t known him so well, she might have thought he hadn’t fully understood what she’d said. But she knew better. He had heard her. He simply refused to react.Selena drew in a breath, steadying herself. Fear tightened her chest, but she forced her voice to remain cl
