The Peek of Threat

The morning sun was warm and gentle in a way that made the world feel softer than it really was as Adrian stood by his balcony sipping tea slowly and staring at the sky as though searching for answers in its quietness because he was healing physically and emotionally slowly and painfully but healing.

Elena had kept her distance since yesterday with no dramatic calls and no unexpected visits but just quiet and strangely Adrian didn’t dislike it because although he appreciated the space, part of him missed her presence in a way he didn’t fully understand yet.

His thoughts were interrupted by the vibration of his phone ‘Elena’ and he exhaled and answered.

“Good morning” her voice came soft, careful and warm.

“Morning. Are you okay now?” he asked immediately.

“I’m fine” she replied, “Better, actually. I… I was wondering if you’d like to step out with me today. Just something light. A picnic.”

Adrian blinked “A picnic?”

“Nothing stressful” she rushed to add, “You choose the garden. I’ll br

  • Peace After Long

Adrian woke slowly, not jolted by fear and not dragged out of sleep by memories, and that alone told him something had changed. He lay on his back staring at the ceiling and listening to the quiet hum of the house with no alarms in his head, no rush of dread and no instinctive need to reach for his phone to check if something had gone wrong overnight. His chest rose and fell evenly “…So this is what calm feels like” he muttered. The name Seraphina still lived in him and it always would, but it didn’t stab toady and didn’t choke him but sat quietly like an old photograph placed gently back in its frame.Adrian swung his legs off the bed and stood stretching slowly while his body still carried scars, some physical but his strength was returning, while Cortez had been silent for weeks.Rhea was already up downstairs seated at the dining table with her laptop open, and a cup of coffee untouched beside her while she looked up when she heard his footsteps.“You’re awake early” she said.“So

  • The Update

Victor didn’t go home after leaving Adrian and Elena. He drove slow enough for every thought to circle back on itself while Elena’s smile replayed in his mind; the way it softened when Adrian spoke, the way her shoulders relaxed when she laughed and the way she didn’t look over her shoulder anymore, and didn’t brace for chaos.‘She thinks it’s over’ Victor thought. He let out a short humorless laugh as his car cut through the city lights “She always thinks that” he muttered to himself. The café scene had gone better and always too well than planned almost.Adrian had been open and calm, disarming in his sincerity while Elena had believed every word Victor said; his apology, his vow of peace, and his offer to help, and Adrian had forgiven him which was the part that made Victor’s jaw tighten.Forgiveness was the most dangerous thing of all.He pulled into the underground garage of Cortez’s private estate just before midnight and the guards recognized his car immediately, n weapons were

  • The Peace Talk

The café Victor suggested was quiet and tucked beneath a row of tall palm trees whose shadows fell across the glass windows like painted stripe, while the air smelled of roasted coffee beans and fresh pastries but Elena barely tasted any of it because her hands were cold and her mind was louder than the room.Today was the day Adrian and Victor would sit across from each other calmly and politely as if the storm between them could simply dissolve. She didn’t believe it but she needed Adrian to and needed this moment to be the beginning of peace because all her plans would turn into dust if peace didn’t come now.Elena spotted Adrian first as he was walking toward them dressed in dark jeans and a fitted shirt with his presence commanding even in simplicity while her heartbeat jumped because Adrian wasn’t just handsome but was he kind of man you felt before you saw, and even now, after everything, after all the guilt that lived behind her smile, a piece of her still warmed whenever he l

  • A Call to Meet

Elena had barely slept. She sat on the edge of her bed with her elbows on her knees and fingers digging into her temples while her mind hadn’t stopped racing since the previous night; Adrian’s warmth, his smile growing softer around her, and the feeling that he was finally hers again, and that she was finally winning, but beneath all that sweetness lay the rot of what she had done with Victor. She hated thinking about it, hated remembering it and hated how her stomach twisted every time Victor’s name entered her mind. She had handled it and had done what needed to be done but it still felt like a stain she couldn’t scrub off.She exhaled shakily because at least it was over and Victor was gone, until her phone buzzed and she froze at the sound while her fingers trembled slightly as she picked up the phone and looked at the caller ID - Victor Blackwood. Her heart dropped ‘Why is he calling? Why now? What does he want again?’She let it ring twice before she pressed accept “Victor?” she

  • A Deadly Allegiance

“Good” Cortez finally said dropping the half-burned cigarette and crushing it under his shoe, “Then let’s speak plainly.”He took a few steps forward with boots echoing against the concrete floor “You want something from me. And I…” He paused letting the silence stretch thin. “…want something from you.”Victor braced himself because he had thought through every version of this conversation, every possible route and every trap because Cortez was too dangerous to approach unprepared.Cortez’s dark eyes flicked upward “But before we discuss strategy, before alliances, before vengeance…” His voice sharpened, “There is one matter you must state clearly.”Victor inhaled slowly “Which is?”“Elena.”The name cracked through the air like a blade.Cortez’s mouth twitched.“You ask that she remain untouched, unbothered and excluded from whatever happens between me and Adrian” He took one step closer, “Why?”Victor swallowed the instinct to lie brcause Cortez would sense it instantly. So he spoke

  • Two Enemies

Victor Blackwood sat alone in the dimly lit lounge of his penthouse with an untouched glass of whiskey glowing amber on the table beside him while the room was quiet, cold and perfectly still exactly the way he liked it when he needed to think, and he was thinking deeply and dangerously tonight. He leaned back in his chair exhaling a low humorless laugh that bounced off the marble walls “Elena…” he muttered to himself shaking his head with mock sadness, “You really think you’ve won.”He took a slow sip of whiskey letting the burn seep into his bones “You think because you opened your legs and pretended for one night, that I’m satisfied?” Another soft vicious laugh escaped him, “You think because you chased Adrian like a lovesick puppy, that I will step aside?”His jaw tightened “She forgets who I am” he whispered, “She forgets what I’m capable of”He stood abruptly pacing the room like a caged predator even as his voice grew sharper and colder “Elena thinks I’m doing this for love” He
