23. Where Is He?

Laura was curious when she saw Tom's expression change. She suspected that something must have gone wrong with his call just now.

"No way, you're not kidding!" exclaimed Tom in a serious tone.

"I'm not joking either. I checked with the personnel department that no one applied for a job here today. We don't have any full time or part time openings either!" Fred Nelson said again.

Tom gripped his cell phone tighter, his teeth chattering. "Never mind then!"

Tom ended the call rudely and hit the steering wheel again. "Shit!"

"Tom, what's wrong?" asked Laura.

Tom turned to Laura and squinted, "That loser didn't apply for a job at Pine Royal Resort! Fred checked and the hotel isn't hiring."

Laura paused and thought, "If he didn't apply for a job, could he have stayed overnight? Didn't you just block him from staying or visiting at a 1-4 star hotel, while Pine Royal Resort is a five star."

Laura was silent again, but a second later, she turned to Tom and said, "But, someone like him can't possibly stay at a five-star hotel. Where does he have the money to stay here?"

Tom raised an eyebrow, "Are you sure that you didn't give anything to that man?"

Laura thought for a moment and then shook her head. "I'm pretty sure I blocked his card, and as far as I know his salary as a delivery boy is only 2000 dollars, and he's only been working there for three months."

"Hmm, not likely, unless he's doing something you don't know about," Tom said, trying to provoke.

"What do you mean?"

"Hmm, like he stole something from your house or your family." Tom shrugged and said, "Never mind, then we'd better find out if he's really staying here or not."

Laura nodded while Tom called Fred Nelson and asked about the overnight guest.

"Fred, I need your help once again. I need you to tell me the room number of the guest named Danny Raphael!" Tom ordered.

Fred Nelson let out a long sigh as if he couldn't fulfil Tom's request this time. "I'm sorry, Mr. Harold. This is a matter of privacy for our guest; we can't tell you."

"Do you have the nerve to defy me? I want to know the room that man rented, because he is a troublemaker! He even stole from the Huxley family. If you don't tell me, you're supporting the theft! Do you want the resort where you work to have a lot of police?"

Fred thought momentarily: If the resort had much police and he was supposed to harbour a police fugitive, his hotel would be the subject of much bad press. He might even be interrogated by the police.

Fred then took a long breath and said, "Well, I can tell you where the room is, as long as you promise not to tell the police and disturb the other guests."

"Huh! You didn't have to warn me about this, the Huxley family wants to settle things amicably, hence why he asked me to help him!" exclaimed Tom.

"Alright, wait a minute!" Just then, Tom heard the sound of a keyboard being typed. It sounded like Fred was finding out about a guest named Danny Raphael.

Tom glanced at Laura, who seemed to be admiring him. Of course, this made him even bigger.

"Tom, I didn't expect you to be so influential that something so personal could be uncovered by a hotel manager," Laura whispered.

Tom chuckled, "I told you they are all subordinates to me. If I give an order, it's a sign that they're still needed. If they're no longer needed, maybe they'll have trouble."

"Hello, Mr. Harold. I'm sorry I couldn't find a single guest named Danny Raphael," Fred Nelson said.

Tom was again angered by the hotel manager and snapped, "Hey, are you incompetent? I clearly saw the thief enter the resort where you work. You said he didn't apply for a job, and he didn't stay here either. Do you want to play games with me?"

"Mr. Harold, I'm not making this up. The only guest here with the name Danny was Daniel Lancaster. He stayed in the president's suite for seven days. Is he the man you're referring to?" Fred asked.

"Daniel Lancester?" Tom repeated the name the hotel manager had just mentioned. He was very familiar with the name.

"Huh! Forget it!" exclaimed Tom as he turned to Laura and recounted what Fred Nelson had just said.

"Danny Lancester is staying there? Isn't he the new President of Phoenix Crest Group, and the sole heir of the Lancester family?" asked Laura incredulously.

Tom rounded his eyes, "Oh, I should be familiar with his name."

Tom stopped talking momentarily and turned to Laura with a mysterious smile. "Laura, I just thought of one thing, why don't we stay at this resort, so we can meet Mr. Danny Lancester, and find out about your ex-husband? Aren't you curious about his whereabouts?"

'She's recently divorced and still a virgin; why don't I get her?" Tom smiled inwardly at the thought of him touching Laura's smooth skin.

"I don't think this is a good idea, I heard that the president suite has special access, and we definitely can't go there," Laura replied.

Tom looked disappointed at Laura's statement but didn't want to give up so easily. "Then what about your ex-husband? We've seen him enter the hotel, but Fred found no trace of him? Don't you think he might have used someone else's identity to stay at this hotel?"

Laura began to worry. She squeezed her fingers and turned to Tom, "Then what should we do?"

"There seems to be no other way but to come to the lobby and try to find out. Isn't the delivery history still on my account? I can show Danny's picture to the hotel staff and ask them to give me some information."

Laura looked confused. She knew what Tom was thinking but was curious about her ex-husband's whereabouts.

Meanwhile, Danny took a warm bath in the presidential suite while enjoying a Domaine de la Romanee Conti 1990.

"I can finally rest and find peace after being separated from the Huxley family. The beautiful scenery will refresh my brain before I take the plunge as president of Phoenix Crest Group."
