Her eyes flashed with rage.

"I had tried so hard to endure you, Rowen, thinking maybe you would do better, get a company and become a CEO like everyone else in your age range, like Fred here who's pretty much younger than you!"

"Then the only thing that I get is cooked meals and words of affirmation instead of physical cash. Grow up, kid, those are only fairy tales that exist in books, and since you could not satisfy my needs, I had to get a real man, and Fred here is the real deal!"

The words struck like a sword deep into Rowen's heart and he almost groaned from the pain.

He stopped, staring at them with an expression that said nothing.

"She's right, man. You're way out of her league and the only people you should be dating are beggars on the street, just like you!"

Again, Rowen ignored him, his eyes fixed on Emma.

Her gaze was vicious and right now, she looked totally different from the girl he had met three years ago and fallen in love with, the girl that didn't want material things and truly wanted love.

"So this is what you have become, Emma?"

"Don't you dare talk down on me because you cannot afford me or my lifestyle. See, Fred here booked the whole of this floor just so we can enjoy a rough and warm night together in a place that you cannot even afford to get a job in and have already been tossed out of!" Fred's chest shot forward hearing these words.

"Did he? You really think he can afford this place?" Rowen raised a brow, while the rest of his face remained unreadable and impossibly calm.

He had personally instructed his personal assistant to clear out the place so that he could have a quiet and peaceful night with his wife, yet she was crediting another man for it.

The instant he said this, she burst out into laughter.

"Beggars, they are all the same. The instant they cannot afford something, they think everyone else is just like them!" She said the words like a thought, just loud enough for everyone in the room to hear.

"If you must know, Fred here has been the one funding my company. Ever since we met a year ago, every contract that I have gotten has been due to his help, every business deal that I have been able to land, he has been the force behind it and not the man that I call a husband!"

Fred's face softened slightly, almost hiding the cruel smirk underneath it.

Meanwhile, Rowen could not help the scoff that escaped his lips.

She had just claimed that another man had helped her with her contracts. How pathetic.

Before they had gotten together, she was practically nothing. Just another girl on the street trying to get through life, drowning in debt with loan sharks knocking on her door.

He had rescued her from all of that, started up her business and used his family name, the Vens, as a protective layer for her, working through the negotiations while she chased her dreams.

All through the years, he had wished he could tell her that he was the one she had saved years ago and that he wasn't as poor as she thought. He was actually the heir of the wealthiest man in the city.

When his father had refused his marriage to her, he ran away from home and his father gave him a clause—if she stayed with him through three years, he would acknowledge their union.

And that day had finally come, only for her to...

"He even just landed a business deal with the Vens!" Emma kept running her mouth while Rowen just watched her with amusement.

"I will choose him over and over again over a pathetic fool like you!" she thundered.

She turned to Fred and muttered, "Maybe we should really show him how powerful couples behave!"

Fred instantly ran wild the instant she said that. His hands roamed over her body while they kissed violently.

Rowen's chest tightened. Memories flashed through his mind and the pain of her betrayal rang through his head.

His face darkened. He brought out his phone and started recording them.

"Since you have no shame displaying your disloyal acts before your husband, seems you're also ready to let the world know that you are a cheat and a sl*t too!"

The duo jerked away from each other hearing this.

They knew they were from powerful circles and a scandal like this, especially while she was still legally married, would do no good. Emma hadn't thought the man she was married to had the nerve to do something like this.

"Have you lost your mind, Rowen! You are going to give that to me right this instant!" she thundered, expecting Rowen to grovel and hand the recording over to her immediately.

However, Rowen didn't even flinch.

The color drained from his face and his icy gaze caused the temperature in the room to drop.

Emma stepped backwards, intimidated and frightened by the aura that surged off Rowen like he was some powerful beast.

"And why should I do that?"

Fred stepped forward, his voice flowing with murderous intent.

"Because I can ruin your life with a single call right this instant. Hell, if I want you dead, nobody would question me. In fact, they would be grateful that I did their dirty work for them!"

"And how do you intend to ruin me? By telling the cheap lies you fed my gullible ex?" Rowen shot back.

"Don't you dare argue with Fred. Give the recording back to him while he's still being nice, or you won't like what he is going to do to you!" Emma had finally regained her composure and snapped at Rowen with a sneer.

They expected him to flinch and drop the act. No one in his position would dare to offend two powerful people who were worth a fortune on the Forbes listing.

However, Rowen remained calm, with an almost amused look playing on his face as they spoke.

"I would love to see how you intend to do that. Besides, I already uploaded it to the internet and you couples already have a lot of engagement!"

"This person is saying, oh, I cannot believe even wealthy people can be whore? So everyone can be successful if they just spread their legs!" Rowen recited the words like he was shocked himself.

Anger and bitter rage burned in Fred's chest and Emma's face burned bright red, resembling one over pumped tomato.

He had never had anyone disobey his orders before, regardless of their standing. As the head of a company that controlled one of the most widely sought-after mineral resources in the world, even the rich and those above him feared and respected him, yet a fool from the street had dared to disgrace him and casually flaunt his orders like they were nothing.

Fred raised his hand to throw a punch at Rowen.

Before the blow landed, Rowen caught his fist effortlessly.

He stared at Fred with a look that was enough to kill. Fred struggled, trying to break free from his grip, but it was just too strong.

"You will get your hands off me right this moment!" he growled.

"You don't know what you are in for, Rowen. You don't even know just how powerful Fred is, or you would already be shaking!"

"You're weak, just like you're useless." Rowen threw a blow into Fred's face, instantly shifting what felt like several of his organs out of place.

Fred screeched in pain, blood shot from his nostrils and he stumbled backwards.

Emma instantly rushed to him with a look of concern that made Rowen's face go cold with absolute disdain and disgust.

"I'm going to make sure that you pay for this. You would be very lucky if you remain alive after I show you just how powerless you are!"

Emma's face shifted with irritation and a clear lack of concern or pity toward Rowen.

"You should never have provoked him. Now you are as good as dead and no one will be coming to save you."

"This city cannot run without me, mutt, so even if I decide to kill you here, nobody would dare question me!" Fred growled, with the bitter taste of disdain in his throat.

He clapped his hands and a dozen guards instantly surrounded Rowen with their fists balled and wide grins on their faces, ready to draw blood.

"Make him beg me to kill him!" he ordered fiercely.

The guards turned to Rowen, ready to do as they had been ordered, their hands gagged him tightly, creating a dark circle around his wrists almost in an instant.

"I want you to break him until he takes down the video and makes a video that what he uploaded was a sham!" He ordered with resounding cruelty in his voice.

For a few moments, neither of them could speak. He must have stolen it from the Hart family and given it to me. Does he have any idea how much trouble this could bring down on me?" Her voice sharpened with rising panic."You're right. There's no way that ring truly belongs to him, and it could cause serious problems. The Hart family is the most powerful in the city and beyond. We cannot afford to get on their bad side."Emma's expression shifted, fear bleeding into her features as the implications crashed over her."What do we do?"
