Damian

Beads of sweat formed on my forehead as I crumpled the piece of paper and stormed downstairs.

“Lock the gates!” I roared and my men scurried in several directions. “Victor!”

Engines revved and cars pulled out of the driveway. Charles couldn’t have gone far on foot with Mila, so I was sure he was still within this environment.

“I gave an order to make sure nothing happens to Mila, how is it even possible that all of you missed a man on foot!” Victor gritted his teeth as he turned and hurried towards his car.

I took a deep breath, unfolded the piece of paper and stared at the crooked words again. Charles wanted me to come after him… but I won’t give him the satisfaction he yearns for.

The front door pushed open and Serena walked in, her eyes cold and her hair damp.

“What’s the ruckus sir?” She asked, looking around to know what the noise was for.

“Dawson was here..”

“Charles Dawson?” Her eyes searched the house instantly, then her gaze fell in the direction of my room. “

Damian’s povI felt a punch coming, but I didn't flinch, and Preston's fist connected with my jaw, sending a shockwave through my head. I didn't fight back, didn't even raise my arms to defend myself, not that I couldn't, but I was being calculating. I knew that's what he wanted: a reaction, a fight, something to distract me from the real goal.Another blow landed, this one harder, and I let my body go limp. I slumped to the ground, pretending to be unconscious. Preston's and Rostella's laughter echoed through the air, and I could feel his eyes on me, assessing me, confirming that I was harmless.“He’s all talk and no action.” He said, and my jaw tightened."Get him up," he ordered, his voice filled with satisfaction.I heard a different person come into the scene, someone unfamiliar. He moved closer, and I got a whiff of strong alcohol as his hand touched my body. "He's heavier than he looks," he said.I kept my body loose, waiting for the perfect moment to strike if need be. DamianI turned back to Mila, her eyes still sharp, the weight of everything pressing on the thin line between us.“Mila, go to my room quickly. Hide there and don’t come out until I come for you,” I said my voice low, the command slipping out before I could soften it. I didn’t like that I had to speak to her like she was one of my servants. “I can’t risk you being seen or caught in whatever mess this is.” I added trying to persuade her.She stared at me for a few seconds, the flicker of fear and courage mixing in her gaze and then she nodded with a warm smile.“Okay,” she whispered, slipping her hand from her chest and stepping toward the door. “I’ll stay out of sight.” She promised.I watched her disappear down the hallway, the dim corridor swallowing her silhouette. A knot tightened in my gut, I had to protect her, keep her safe, no matter what but also keep the plan moving.I stepped out of the study, the door closing shut behind me with a calm thud. My boots echoed as I headed t

DamianThe rest of the day went on smoothly, everyone minded their business and went about their day. I knew Mila was still in the house because her scent still lingered in the air. But she kept herself out of my sight and even though it pricked me, it was for the best. I can’t brew anything in this current environment and situation right now. I’ll only give Rostella something else to hold on to when she wants to prove just how diabolic she can be. As I sat in the courtyard, my face buried between the pages of my journal, a car pulled over in the driveway. I turned and it was Serena, and when I checked again for Charles, he wasn’t there with her. Serena walked up to me, hands in the air and a disappointed look on her face. “I tried sir..” she announced. “Dawson is just a tough nut to crack.” “Charles Dawson turned down my invite?” I scoffed, an unbelieving laughter erupted as I imagined how someone with almost nothing left to his name could be so arrogant still. “You’ve done you

Damian“Rostella I think you should leave..” Mila added, pulling me to the side while she stood between Rostella and I. “And who are you to involve yourself in private matters?” Rostella shot back sternly, her left hand still rubbing against her reddened neck. “If it weren’t for me, I wonder how you would have broken free from his grip. So please do yourself a huge favor and see yourself out before things slip out of everyone’s control!” The firmness in Mila’s voice shook the ground. I’ve never seen her stand on business before. “Damian… are you just going to stand there and watch her speak to me in this manner?” Rostella’s voice softened. Tears flowed down her cheeks as she tried to step forward but Mila stood in her way. “We were finally getting along, remember when you put this necklace around my neck?” She said,I glanced at her neck and then at Mila. I thought she’d flip out, but she didn’t even look down at Rostella’s neck. Her eyes remained glued to her face, anger seethin
