Muttering that spell ought to have been followed by its manifestation, but nothing actually happened to Erunai's throne. Arthur had expected the king to fall and possibly slump to death itself. Why? Because the king was so blind that he couldn't sense the three priests were involved in something devious. Religious patriots trying to starve a young girl to death; were those really good people?

Arthur even wondered if the priests had been faking all along. If they had been trying to abduct rather

"What did you say, Elvic?" Arthur eventually asked, trying to gain some clarity.Elvic smiled even more. "You didn't notice I have been looking at you for some time now?" he asked back.Arthur stood there watching Elvic. It was hard to explain whether Elvic simply chose to make jest of him this way, but this performer had never been too comical as a person. Elvic was strangely reserved yet engaging as an individual."What do you mean by all these?" Arthur frowned at him."Wow," Elvic whispered. "You look even cuter narrowing those eyes." he said.Arthur realized he had had enough of this guy."Are you trying to mock me because I'm about to be executed by these strange people?" he banged against the gate. "That's just the poorest form of comedy, Elvic." he added.Elvic giggled and then pocketed his hands."Don't be afraid, dear. No one is going to touch you." he said with a smile that looked almost devious.Arthur narrowed his eyes even more. At first, he wanted to be relieved that thi

It was a cavern, a cave where water dripped from the overhead stone. A dark, oiled metal served as its barrier. And inside, was the merciless bite of unseen frost. There was no better way to sit than to place one's back against the wall and stare at the ventilated barrier for natural air.Arthur was grateful that the cavern was less unconducive. It was spacious enough for someone to breathe. However, it surprised him that this cavern had been built within the walls. It was situated closer to a grand chamber that had been reserved for Wilson.Low hums of conversation could still be heard from where Arthur sat. He could clearly pick out words from the priest and his damned attendant. That same attendant who had implicated him.In all honesty, Arthur wished he could repay this fellow in his own coin. Why hadn't he simply kept quiet? Arthur would have walked away in peace and perhaps would not be trapped in this mess."Those peasants that call themselves priests are merely underdeveloped

Why? Because the king was so blind that he couldn't sense the three priests were involved in something devious. Religious patriots trying to starve a young girl to death; were those really good people?Arthur even wondered if the priests had been faking all along. If they had been trying to abduct rather than liberate people. They really didn't look like people who could discern wizards in Sysia. But what hurt most was the king's blindness to the horrid practices of these priests.Religious beliefs were actually vague; it was hard to tell what these priests truly were. Arthur grasped that too well. The priests' religion was an abstract concept of pure ambiguity. There was nothing so straightforward about it. Instead, these priests tended to mitigate their horrible profiles under the noble title

Suddenly, Devic lunged at Arthur, pinning him down. The aged man didn't allow him to go at all; he tightened his grip as if his life depended on it.“You ghost! How dare you haunt my home?! You shouldn't be here.” Devic rasped. There was one thing that seemed to be lost in Devic's expression. Not his aggressiveness; that had always been present. It was something else entirely. Arthur really didn't care about being restrained; he was a little concerned as to why Devic chose to call him a ghost instead of a bastard.“Speak, you demon! I rebuke you in the name of the Lord!”There was little reason to actually watch Devic display his behavioural patterns. It was… totally amusing. Arthur believed the aged man was so good at theatrics that he ought to be performing some kind of court masque or something. Because dancing in royal courts could perhaps earn him more money than his fishing.“I said speak, you demon!” Devic yelled again.“Do you really want to say demon or bastard? I'm kind of c

Arthur took his time to equally stare back at Elvic. He ensured he showed no fear, even if Elvic looked like someone who deserved to be feared. This wasn't the first time Elvic was looking at him in this manner. Back at King Erunai's palace, this was the same expression the performer wore. It was difficult to know—maybe it was admiration or something else entirely.Their eye contact stretched so long that Arthur wished he could take his eyes off. But he fought back the urge. He wanted to know what Elvic was trying to look at or trying to say.A few seconds passed, and then a smile cornered Elvic's lips. It was a little surprising. His white row of teeth glimmered as he brushed his long hair from his face.Arthur found himself returning the smile just to feel eased by the situation. He watched as Elvic winked at him and somehow gestured for him to close his eyes or get caught by the priests. It was an advisable move to hearken to Elvic's words, so Arthur obeyed. He shut his eyes slowly

"Penioscos Resunik Aristhos," Arthur muttered beneath his breath just as the door burst open. How the spell escaped his lips was surprising enough to unsettle him. He had not planned on using it. In truth, he was not even certain it would work. This was the few spells his father had taught him before his death, and everything concerning it had emphasized preparation, concentration, and caution. Yet in that desperate moment, with danger rushing toward him, the words had simply surfaced from memory and leapt from his tongue. The horned woman emerged into the corridor almost immediately. For the first time, Arthur had a proper view of her. The sight nearly made him recoil. Her skin was red—not merely touched by red light but genuinely red, as though blood itself flowed upon the surface of her body. Or maybe it's really a costume. Two curved horns rose proudly from her head, while her eyes glowed with an amber brilliance. The spiritual scent surrounding her was even worse.Arthur's nose
