Chapter 3: And So It Began

Seeing that their plans had failed, many people’s expressions were solemn.

Apart from getting the rewards from the academy, taking the number 1 spot in the examinations would also boost their positions in their clans. Which will, in turn, make the prestige of their clans resound out more.

They could accept any of them succeeding in securing the top spot. But if they lost to a poor bastard, then wasn't that saying that none of them from these prestigious clans were better than the paupers out there?

It was undoubtedly a big slap to their faces! Better one of them than Ji Feng.

At least those were their thoughts. But now, it seems this pauper’s life was too strong to kill off.

Wei Fru narrowed his gaze at Ji Feng like a beast in the wild.

'Ji Feng. Don't think that you’ll be free from my reach after this. So what if you managed to survive? I don't believe that after all the secret training I received, I won't be able to beat you in the end!’

Boosting his confidence, Wei Fru felt a lot better.

These exams were not made by their teachers and wouldn't be child’s play. That's why his father, the Fru clan patriarch, had gathered more advanced resources for him to study.

It wasn't just him, as many other noble children went through similar situations over the past few weeks.

They only thought of kicking Ji Sheng out of the way because they didn't want to take any chances. But now that they thought about it, how could a peasant do better than they, who secretly got drilled with immeasurable resources at their disposal?

So what if he was always at the top of the class? These Alliance examinations occurring simultaneously across all 118 planets was no joke.

After countless forms of brainwashing, many leaned back in their seats with relaxed expressions.

Alright. It's most likely that the pauper wouldn't be able to reach the top 15 or even 20. So... their opponents were each other!

First place… First place…

‘I must emerge on top!’

Nym Bai, Shu Kang, Wei Fru, and many others were determined, throwing Ji Feng’s matter at the back of their heads.

Meanwhile, the now-forgotten star of the show seemed not to have noticed everything that took place.

.

'System, so the more I read, the more I advance?'

[Yes, host! Because the host already had an eidetic mind, the system has upgraded the host’s ability to Super eidetic.]

Ji Feng was confused. ‘Super Eidetic? What ability is that? Is my head going to swell and ruin my handsome face?’

[...]

The system almost fell off its non-existent seat. Was it just it, or did its host have something wrong with his brain?

The system quickly denied this thought.

How could a genius like the host who accomplished so much in his former world have something wrong with his head? Additionally, it had picked out its host by itself. So how can it doubt its own awesome capabilities?

The system seemed as narcissistic as its host.

[Host, with super eidetic powers, you’ll be able to read books 20 times faster than you initially could.]

‘Really?’ Ji Feng was excited. Didn't this mean that in the normal time he took to read a single page, he would be able to read 20 pages at such speeds?

For the first time, he seemed to understand the system’s greatness.

‘Good. Good. Good. It seems you didn't lie to me. You are really here to help me read more books!’

(^0^)

… Whatever you say, host.

[Host, as you know, with great power comes great responsibility. So you must complete your main and side missions without fail.]

Ji Feng nodded, not feeling too worried about this aspect. He was a person who never took anything for free. So it was only fitting for him to do this much and help his system out, especially since he received such a powerful gift.

[Host, I should inform you that your super eidetic eyes are only at rank 1. The more books the host reads, the more levels will be unlocked in the system, immediately upgrading your All-Seeing eyes.]

So great?

Ji Feng was amazed.

‘So my first mission is to pass this examination at the top of the class?'

[Yes, host! As a future Supreme Master Teacher, how can you come second to another? The host must produce outstanding results in the examination and leave the other examinees to the dust. And using these results, the host is required to gather Fame points, which can be used to raise the host's cultivation level, Will Power and Soul Force.]

Ji Feng's eyes lit up in surprise. 'You can do that?'

[Of course this system can! Every time the host gains knowledge, good reviews, praises, or any other positive feedback, it will be converted into merits points and used as such. So the host should continue to work hard.]

‘Good!’

Phew.~

The system wiped its non-existent sweat, seeing how gullible its host was.

Well, everything it said was true. However, if it didn't put it in a way that enabled its host to have more reading time, its host might not be interested in gaining Fame points or even accepting disciples.

Awesome!

Ji Feng was in a good mood.

‘If I got disciples and they looked at me favorably, wouldn't that alone make his cultivation level rise steadily? This way, won't he have more time to keep reading?’

Of course, he would still take his cultivation seriously since he aimed to be the best.

But knowing that he had a helping hand was still something that took the pressure off his back. One could never get enough aid.

Ji Feng was still immersed in his blissful thoughts when suddenly, a terrifying wind opened all 2 giant golden doors at the front of the hall.

~Bam!

What a terrifying wind technique.

The powerful gust of wind almost blew some students away. But shortly after that, everyone spotted 24 invigilators calmly walking in.

~Bubuum. Bubuum.

Hearts beating chaotically, bodies leaning forward subconsciously, no one said a thing, knowing the moment of truth was upon them.

But unlike everyone else, Ji Feng was more intrigued.

Initially, he felt it was a hassle. But seeing the invigilators come in, as well as seeing how everyone took the exams like a do or die affair, Ji Feng couldn't help getting a little excited.

Apart from reading, he also loved a good challenge.

‘Come!... I’d like to see just how tough the exam really is.’
