I sat in the campus cafeteria, a half-eaten sandwich sitting untouched on my tray. My body still ached from the Elliot incident. My knuckles were bruised, my ribs sore, and the pulsing injuries beneath my skin hadn’t quite faded. Every breath felt like I was inhaling needles. Still, I couldn't rest. Not now.

I was on edge—every passing student could be a gamer. Anyone could be next. That uncertainty was the most dangerous part of this twisted game. If I didn’t find a way to identify the players, I might as well start digging my own grave.

No more surprises.

I needed control.

I needed names.

I needed to know who was in the game and who wasn’t.

The system was unforgiving, and from the look in Derek’s eyes, he had no plans of letting me rest easy too. I had to stay three moves ahead, maybe four. That’s when it hit me—if I couldn’t see the gamers with my eyes, then maybe I could find them through their digital footprints. The system had to have some kind of digital tether to each user, ri

A sharp sting yanked me out of unconsciousness. My head throbbed, and my cheek pulsed with pain. I groaned as my eyes fluttered open, trying to adjust to the low light. A flickering bulb overhead swung from the ceiling, casting eerie shadows that danced across the walls. I felt something cold and metallic press against my wrists. Cuffs. I was tied to a chair. “What the hell…” I murmured, my voice hoarse. I jerked, testing the restraints. Tight. Someone knew what they were doing. The air smelled like mildew and rust. I scanned the room—or rather, the dungeon. Stone walls. A single wooden door. A strange symbol etched into the concrete floor beneath me. That’s when I heard it. Footsteps. Soft, deliberate. Heels. Then, a voice. “Took you long enough to wake up.” My breath caught in my throat. Olivia. She stepped into view, wearing a black hoodie over her school uniform, the hood pulled back just enough to reveal her face. Her expression was unreadable—somewhere between regr

My head still cannot grasp while the system would ask me to kiss someone like Olivia. I mean, she was my girlfriend. Not that we were official but I was planning to make things official with her. I wanted to show her off to my foster mother and let her know she meant a lot to me but now, I wasn't sure who to trust anymore. My revenge was slowly turning into a death wish by the day. Courtesy of the system. I looked at Eliot's body on the ground again and I felt scared. This was my fault. If I had just tried to play the game without trying to involve him then I might not have added to the body count. I looked at the cloth I was wearing. It had been tainted with his blood. I could see students running up and down after the sound of the sniper and the death of Eliot. My gaze locked with Derek who was seated without fret. Was he the shooter? Or did he know something about it? For a moment, my mind was off the quest I was giving. What intrigued me most was his calmness. T

I looked at the floor and watched as the blood poured down to my leg. Eliot's eyes were opened in a frightened manner that sent chills down my spine. There was a loud noise from the kissing booth and immediately all the students took to their heels. I didn't know what to do or what to say. My hands were shaking. I looked between his eyes and I saw it was a gunshot. Sniper maybe. I don't need to be told why Eliot was taken down. I knew it had to do with the fact that he was trying to help me. I felt like crying for him. Now,it is now real that the system meant every word. Every mission that was given. I looked at the table Eliot gave to me and decided to run. Women. They are funny creatures. I looked at my side and Olivia was gone. "Liv! Liv!!" I shouted twice trying to see if she was hiding around. I knew the system was going to make me pay for what I did. I felt my whole book shook from fear. I ran back to the department and stayed there. My heart was incredibl

My pulse was pounding so loudly, I was sure the DJ could hear it through his speakers. Olivia was walking through the crowd with all the fury of a woman scorned—and she had every right to be. I just kissed five different girls in front of half the school, and now the only woman who mattered was storming toward me, heels clicking with the finality of a death sentence. A part of me felt like laughing. Jealousy indeed doesn't look good on woman. I could see her heart heaving up and down against the cloth that clung to her skin tightly. I knew I had to give an explanation. Anything that was going to throw her off my back. My phone buzzed again and I saw it was a message from Eliot. " Get to the lobby now." it said with urgency. I quicky dip my phone into my pocket waiting for the ticking bomb that was walking towards me. No kidding. I took a step back, tripping over someone’s handbag on the floor. Lucas instinctively grabbed my arm, steadying me. “Abort. Retreat,”

The prom was coming up in just a few days. I needed to get ready. I had planned to bring Olivia to see Mrs Tracy after the prom was over. I was going to introduce her as my girlfriend. It was meant to be a surprise though. Mrs Tracy had been asking me questions about my face of course. The bruises. The sprains. And of course the midnight growls. The system has been helpful. It sometimes heals me up but not all the time. I remembered my level yet again. Level B+ If only I knew what it meant. I was still not familiar with the system. I can only pray that Eliot gets me what I asked of him. In the meantime, I was leaving the dreams of my life. I even got myself a new car which still baffles Mrs Tracy. I knew she was slowly getting attached to me but then she was not my mother. I could see that she doesn't want to butt into my private life and I really appreciate it. Her cafe shop was slowly growing with lots of customers trooping in every day. I sometimes get back from scho
