The Acheri

The air was bitterly cold, and darkness blanketed the night like the depths of midnight. A part-time worker, eager to return home to the warmth of his wife and young sons, was preparing to leave when the light bulb in the room flickered. He muttered under his breath, "What the hell," while searching for a bench. Despite his desire to ignore the disturbance and hasten his departure, he couldn't resist investigating further. Climbing onto a table, he reached up and shook the bulb, hoping to restore its steady glow. Just then, the doorbell rang, interrupting his efforts. Irritated, he called out, "We're closed," and resumed his task, completely absorbed in his work. However, his concentration was abruptly shattered when a shadow loomed over him.

Attempting to assert authority, he began, "I said we--" but as he turned to face the mysterious presence, a wave of weakness washed over him, rendering him paralyzed. He desperately tried to speak, but no words escaped his lips. A minute later, he lay lifeless, his eyes gouged out, his face contorted with darkness, and his veins grotesquely exposed.

The entity responsible for this gruesome act cackled gleefully as she clutched a pot in her hands.

During a geography lesson, James leaned in close to Peter and whispered, "Did you hear the news?" Although they were excelling in the subject, Peter initially disregarded the comment. James persisted, whispering Peter's name to regain his attention. Finally, Peter succumbed to curiosity and inquired, "What news?"

James proceeded to inform him about the recent discovery of bodies, their murders characterized by absurd details—no eyes, darkened faces, and an absence of blood. Furthermore, a witness claimed to have seen a girl carrying a pot, a detail that particularly caught Peter's interest. Puzzled, he questioned, "A pot?" James confirmed it, responding, "Yeah, a pot."

Their conversation was abruptly interrupted by the teacher, Mr. Dot Will, who called them out for not paying attention. Annoyed, he demanded they either share the important information they were discussing or refrain from distracting the class. Mr. Dot Will was known for his strict demeanor, and as Peter and James stood up, exchanging annoyed glances, the rest of the class turned away, stifling laughter. Sensing their inability to share their conversation, Mr. Dot Will allowed them to leave the classroom.

Peter quickly glanced at the subject on the board—latitude—and confidently announced, "I'll explain." The class erupted with murmurs, causing a twinge of hurt in the teacher's heart. James, rather than responding to Peter's plea, dismissively nodded. Sandra leaned closer and whispered, "Effico," prompting Mr. Dot Will to step aside and make room for Peter. Clearing his throat, Peter began explaining, "Latitude is the angle between a location and the equator..."

Suddenly, a long, piercing scream filled the air, starting with a shrill "yaaa!" The group was startled, wondering about the source of the disturbance. Mr. Will attempted to calm everyone down, assuring them that he would investigate. Anxious and uneasy, the students awaited his return. Moments later, a student burst into the room exclaiming, "The principal!" Instantly, they all rushed out, accompanied by students from other classrooms. Teachers formed a barrier, preventing the students from entering the chaotic scene. Peter, positioned at the back, tiptoed to catch a glimpse of the commotion. Though his view was obstructed, he could discern the principal lying on the ground, surrounded by a female student and other faculty members.

female student was questioned by the vice principal, "How did it happen?" The entire room fixated their gaze on her as she replied, "I saw a girl, she was carrying a pot." James and Peter exchanged concerned glances, realizing the connection to their earlier conversation.

Shortly after, the police and an ambulance arrived at the scene. The teacher and the female student provided their accounts of the incident to the authorities, but they seemed skeptical, not fully believing their testimonies. Peter and his friends noticed the absence of any teachers in their classroom, heightening their sense of unease.

Peter couldn't help but voice his thoughts, questioning, "Could this be the outcome we discussed earlier?" Sarah, unaware of their earlier conversation, asked, "What outcome?" Her question caught them off guard, as James hadn't filled her in on the details. Sarah scoffed, dismissing the idea as "absolute nonsense."

Scott chimed in, asserting, "But we know this isn't natural. A girl and a pot... there's something more to it." Frustration seeped into Peter's voice as he exclaimed, "What the f**k would someone do with these?" It was a rare outburst from him, using a word he rarely uttered.

In that moment, a peculiar sensation enveloped them, and they found themselves transported to a mysterious cave. Before them stood the hooded figure they had encountered before, emitting growls and snarls. Though they couldn't discern the person's identity beneath the cloak, they were certain it was not a human.

Peter, still reeling from the shock, demanded an explanation. "What exactly did you just say?" The hooded figure responded, "Acheri. She is the ghost or spirit of a little girl who was murdered or abused and left to die, only to be resurrected as a soul eater."

Peter, struggling to comprehend, asked with frustration, "What are you saying?" The figure continued, revealing that Peter's actions had unintentionally summoned the vengeful spirit to aid in the figure's own sinister plan. Peter and his friends exchanged quick glances, realizing the gravity of their situation and the dire consequences they faced.
