The ultimatum

"Damn!! I'm late for work. Hey old one I'll finish this up after work you should go home now the weather isn't good for your health"

The old man nodded in response. He watched Brian as he ran off to work and smiled.

Brain prefers to call Mr. Robert the old one since he's very old and still does most of the cleaning in the neighborhood, he would pick around till he's tired and he doesn't skip a day. Brian couldn't take it he wondered how an old man would take it upon himself to clean the neighborhood when he's not being paid so before going to work, he would stop to help the old man with everything he treats him like his grandpa they both play and joke a lot they had grew to like each other so well.

Brian straightened his tie and brushed his hand down at the front of his suit before pushing open the door of the business director's office at the clair group.

"How many times have I told you to knock on the door before you come in!" " how hard is it to remember hun?" snapped a voice from within.

"My wife, can you stop reminding me of the rules?" Brian said as he smiled bitterly.

He had anticipated the scolding but then he was still hurt by her words.

Samantha Madison, the business director of the clair group glared at her husband.

"you know that all because you're my husband, one tried to cut you some slack right? And how many times have I told you not to call me wife at work? You want the workers to mock me more?".

"You've been working here for the past two years now and I've tried to get your name out there. Just tell me, how many properties have you sold?".

Brian shuffled his feet uncomfortably and said nothing he knew his wife was right besides she's always a different person at work but still he felt embarrassed.

"You haven't brought in even a single customer!" what exactly have you been doing hun, just sitting around as you do at home?" with the current housing market situation even a fool would be better than you!

Hearing the volume of his wife's scolding, Brian immediately closed the door behind him. He couldn't let the others hear the firing he was a victim of but it was too late they were already talking and laughing amongst themselves.

"Why do you bother shutting the door?".

She asked mockingly

"even if you shut the door it's not like everyone doesn't know how much of a joke you are". She shook her head in disgust " I was really blind when I married you!" Samantha's heart ached as she said these words, she felt wronged. She wondered where the passion and determination burning in her husband had gone. He wasn't like that when she married him. Now all he does is cook and clean at home like he has no dreams anymore.

Brain had been a penniless son-in-law for the past three years now the Madison family couldn't watch him being unable to bring in a more considerable income they had given him an ultimatum, he needed to find a job with a salary of at least "20 thousand dollars a month.

San Clemente, California was a beautiful town but there weren't many jobs that could pay that much.

Samantha regretted offering her husband a job in the sales department at the clair group where she was the business director.

After everything she had said Brian couldn't respond for a long time, he glanced at her uncomfortably, his heart softened but he still felt helpless.

"Samantha I'm sorry for causing you a lot of pain, it's not that I don't wanna work hard but the sales manager at the sales department always steals my customer".

"The sales manager hates me, the whole department hates me," he thought to himself

"That's why from day one I haven't been able to keep a customer," he said.

"Brian, how many times have I told you? You need to learn to be objective and you need to take some initiative and responsibilities" Samantha spoke with a firm voice".

"He signed" Very well, I'll try harder I promise".

She glared at him and then passed him a piece of paper with two phone numbers on it even though she didn't believe it when he said he'd try harder.

"I've already talked with these two clients, you just need to contact them okay?" she said with an evident look of hopelessness.

Brain felt a burst of embarrassment but he was also touched even though his wife can be cold most times, after taking the piece of paper he dejectedly left her office.

And just as soon as he stepped out of the door he heard laughter erupting from the previously quiet sales department. One of the salespeople quickly took a cloth to wipe out the desk before running over and passing the cloth to Brian.

"Hey thick head hurry up and get back to work you're so good at housework please tidy up the office" ha ha ha ha" " I just don't understand you" he continued

"Director Samantha makes a lot of money, she could support you just fine, why don't you run home and get back to your classic housework and cooking" Worthless here" he laughed sarcastically.

"Scram, David" Henry Brewer, one of the higher-up salespeople pushed the salesperson away.

Brian didn't trust Henry any more than he trusted David; he knew they were all the same. What's more, Henry had always acted as the manager's spy, he had directly taken customers from Brian on countless occasions.

"Ouch!" David complained and continued "Why don't you push him out instead all you need to do is hit him hard and he will leave.

Henry had a cruel look on his face and he even took a closer step Brian was used to their provocation but it didn't mean he liked it; he glared at the two men and just continued to his desk.

Henry clenched his fist as he watched Brian walk away " That idiot is giving our department a bad name". He moaned.

When everyone had gotten back to work Brian took out the piece of paper his wife had given him, however as he was about to call the first number, a large middle-aged man walked over to stand beside his desk.

Brain peered up into the irritated face of his manager Edward Lee, he looked at Brian condescendingly before asking.

"Hey, Maxwell, who permitted you to use your personal cell phone during work?"

"I'm trying to call a client sir" Brian responded.

"Oh cut the crap!" Do you think you'll succeed in making a sale? Why are you so stubborn, look at them". He waves his hand towards the salespeople. " they can sell a property every few days you moron, you're just so worthless if your wife hadn't been the boss I would have fired you a long time ago. Do you think you can earn the same salary as those guys for doing nothing?".

After his words, he glanced at the piece of paper and laughed evilly.

This your last chance," he said issuing an ultimatum

If you can sell a one hundred property by 10 a.m. morning? You can stay and I'll even give you a promotion, but if not you're gone!!

  • CHAPTER 209

The Future They ChoseThe words Elias Ward had just spoken settled over the chamber like a storm cloud because although everyone present already understood that Eclipse was dangerous, very few of them had imagined that the organization’s ambitions extended beyond power, wealth, or influence. Those goals were familiar. History was filled with men who sought to dominate others through money and authority. What Elias had described was something far more disturbing because it suggested that Eclipse no longer viewed itself as part of humanity. It viewed itself as humanity's replacement.Brian remained completely still while studying the older man's face because he had spent years learning how to recognize deception, and nothing about Elias suggested he was exaggerating. The sadness in his eyes felt genuine. The regret sounded genuine. More importantly, Victor Graves' reaction was telling its own story. The architect of Eclipse no longer looked irritated. He looked cornered. For a man like

  • CHAPTER 208

The First RebelThe massive reinforced door continued sliding open while every person inside the chamber watched in complete silence because after everything that had happened since entering Blackwater Institute, it had become painfully clear that the man standing beyond that threshold represented something far greater than another hidden enemy or forgotten experiment. The reactions from Ian, Victor Graves, and even Brian's mother had already revealed more than words ever could, and the growing tension throughout the facility suggested that the arrival of this mysterious figure threatened foundations that had existed for decades.Brian remained completely still as his eyes stayed fixed on the widening gap because although countless questions were racing through his mind, one stood above all the others. For years he had been chasing fragments of the truth surrounding his family, and every answer seemed to lead him deeper into a maze of secrets connected to Eclipse. Now another piece of

  • CHAPTER 207

The Man Who Should Have Been DeadThe silence that followed those words seemed to stretch endlessly throughout the chamber because nobody present could fully understand why a single voice had produced such a dramatic reaction. Brian had spent years facing dangerous enemies, powerful families, and ruthless criminals, yet he had never seen Victor Graves look the way he looked now. The architect of Eclipse remained frozen before the observation glass while every trace of confidence slowly drained from his expression, and for the first time since revealing himself, he appeared less like the mastermind behind a global conspiracy and more like a man confronting a ghost from his past. The facility speakers remained active, but the mysterious voice said nothing further as though deliberately allowing the tension to grow. Whoever stood outside the chamber understood exactly what effect his arrival was having, and the patience behind that silence suggested a level of confidence that immediately

  • CHAPTER 206

What They BuriedThe moment Ian uttered the words "It escaped," a heavy silence settled throughout the underground chamber because despite everything Brian had witnessed since arriving at Blackwater Institute, nothing compared to the reaction that followed. Victor Graves had spent the entire night presenting himself as a man who controlled every variable around him, someone capable of manipulating governments, corporations, and human lives with little more than patience and calculation, yet the confidence that had defined him from the moment he appeared was beginning to crack. The change was subtle enough that most people would have missed it, but Brian did not. For the first time, Victor looked like a man confronting a problem he could not simply control.Another violent tremor rolled through the facility while dust drifted from the ceiling above, and the distant roar that followed seemed to travel through the reinforced walls themselves. The sound was unlike anything Brian had heard

  • CHAPTER 205

The Prison BelowThe roar that erupted from somewhere beneath Blackwater Institute seemed to shake the entire underground facility because whatever had produced that sound possessed enough power to make reinforced walls vibrate and security systems malfunction simultaneously, and the moment Laura announced that every security lock inside the institute had been opened, a realization spread through everyone present that the situation had just become far more dangerous than any of them had anticipated. For years, Blackwater had operated as one of the most secure facilities in existence. For years, Victor Graves had controlled every room, every corridor, every experiment, and every prisoner. Now that control was gone.Or at the very least, it was slipping away.Red emergency lights flickered back to life throughout portions of the chamber while warning alarms continued screaming from every direction, creating a chaotic atmosphere that felt completely different from the cold precision that

  • CHAPTER 204

The Ghost Beneath BlackwaterThe moment those three words left his mother's mouth, an unsettling silence spread throughout the underground chamber because although nobody knew exactly who she was referring to, the expression that appeared on Victor Graves' face was enough to tell everyone that whoever existed beyond that hidden passage was connected to secrets buried far deeper than anything they had uncovered so far. For the first time since revealing himself, Victor no longer looked like a man controlling every aspect of the situation, and that alone made the atmosphere feel far more dangerous than before.Brian's eyes remained fixed on the dark corridor that had slowly emerged behind the containment chamber, because every instinct inside him told him this was no coincidence. Nothing inside Blackwater happened by accident. Every door, every prison cell, every experiment, and every conversation had been carefully controlled for years. If a hidden passage were to open now, someone had
