The bad news
Samantha was shocked, she gaped at Brian with her unshaped eyes. That was the first time in her memory that Brian had been angry enough to shout at her.
Instantly a strong feeling of resentment rose in her heart.
"Brain, are you a man or not because you are beginning to think otherwise".
She started throwing questions at him
"How dare you be mean to me now !?"
"Have you ever stopped to think about why I might be doing this?"
"Are you really foolish? Do you really think I would need to compromise myself like this if you had even the slightest bit of skills at your job?
Was there a need to degrade me like this?" Samantha lamented soberly.
Brain lowered his head in shame, he was well aware of how many times Samantha had taken the flak for him during the years he had been in the family.
Hearing Samantha sobbing Brian's heart softened and his anger dissipated. He tried to reach out and hug her to comfort her but she pushed him away.
'Don't touch me"! She barked.
I'm really sick of you. After enduring so many years with you I'm so tired of trying.
If it doesn't work then do as my parents say.
"We need to get divorced". her voice was getting louder.
"No I won't" there's no way I'm getting a divorce". Brian shook his head stubbornly in refusal.
Samantha rolled her eyes in anger, for the past few years of their marriage Brian never said no to her except when the topic of divorce came up, and in these cases, he would become adamant in his protest.
"Samantha", Brian began, his tone softer.
He slowly sat down by the foot of the bed making sure he didn't get too close to her.
"Look, I know I've asked you to trust me before and I've disappointed you many times but can you trust me again this time?".
"Trust you again?" Samantha grimaced. She had already heard those words countless times and she had only concluded that men were liars.
However, when she turned towards him and saw Brian's serious expression, one that she had never seen before, she swallowed the words that were about to come out of her mouth.
She didn't know if it was an illusion or not but his demeanor gave her a sense of reliability and control.
Seeing that she was silent, Brian inched closer and gently held her cold hand in his hands.
S
" Samantha, do you still remember the promise I made to you? The promise that no matter what happens I won't let you get hurt?
Trust me one last time okay? Because I have a surprise planned for tomorrow.
" Whatever you have planned, don't try it" Samantha warned as she pulled her hand away.
" There is no way you will be able to sell one hundred properties it's impossible"
"Don't make empty promises". She reached for her bag and started to put her stockings into it.
Suddenly, she paused, looking at him then she spoke with some sense of calmness kicking in.
" Look, don't you think I'm too cheap or foolish, even if I do meet with George tomorrow I certainly won't let him go too far".
Having said that, Samantha left the room to eat dinner with the family, leaving Brian sitting alone on the end of the bed with a wry smile on his face.
"She's being naive," he thought.
"If she has dinner with George tomorrow it would be like sending a lamb into a lion's den".
I'm sure George has a hundred ways to try to get her to sleep with him.
After everyone had gathered around the table to eat dinner, Brian had just taken a bite of the food when Brenda started to criticize him again. This time, however, she was back to urging him to divorce Samantha as soon as possible.
"Brian the deadline we set for you is almost up," Brenda said, her voice sharp.
" You haven't even started earning what we asked you to, you're barely bringing home five hundred a month, that's not even enough to support one person let alone two".
"What!?" you're only bringing home five hundred a month?" That's not even enough for me to buy enough cigarettes to smoke in a month". Thomas, Samantha's jobless brother spoke with a look of disdain on his face. He seemed to be forgetting the fact that he himself wasn't working and he was sitting around all day without any source of income.
"Mom, Thomas, why can't you two just drop it?" Samantha asked quietly. " let's just try to have a peaceful meal".
"you wanna have a peaceful meal?" The question came from Gary who rarely said anything.
"Then let's make it more peaceful".
"it's time for you to move out with your foolish husband".
Gary was Samantha's father, he had been born into a wealthy family that was successful in business.
However, because of his poor disability, he had been kicked out of the family's main business ten years ago and was given a job of managing an ailing company in San Clemente,
Also owned by the Madison family.
Nathalia's world crumbled as her father's stern words echoed through the air, Shock and hurt painted her face as she grappled with the sudden realization that the place she once found solace was about to become a forbidden sanctuary.
"What!" she shouted, not believing her ears. "Dad, are you joking? Do you want us to move out? But why?"
Gary put down his knife and fork and looked at his daughter seriously. He then looked at Thomas who had a smug expression on his face, and said, "Your brother has had a hard time sorting out his marriage, his fiancee has said she doesn't like the number of people living here and she doesn't want anyone want anyone here except for them, your mom and me".
"Dad you are not being re…….."
"Let me finish!" Gary interrupted, "Your sister is still in college and has been living there for a long time, you're doing quite well so you can at least rent a place for the two of you".
Samantha was enraged, tears welled in her eyes, mirroring the heavy storm in her heart, she felt betrayed.
"Why do we have to move out", this house is two thousand square feet, so why can't it accommodate the two of us? That woman is asking too much before she's even married, she's way too overbearing".
Thomas immediately tried to protect his fiancee, be careful Samantha, that's rude, she's your future sister-in-law so change your attitude. Also, you're already married, and just because you're married to a loser you can't expect our family to support him.
Finally, Gary slammed the table with his fists and shouted "Enough"
" your mother and I only have one son and we'll be leaving this house to him in the future".
"Samantha you're earning quite a bit now, it's not like you can't support yourself" Brenda chimed in.
"You're being ungrateful", Samantha hissed " I might have earned a lot but I've paid more than my fair share into this family".
Seeing that his wife's anger was building to a dangerous level, Brian whispered to her, " Samantha, don't argue with them, it's fine if we have to find our own place".

CHAPTER 209
The Future They ChoseThe words Elias Ward had just spoken settled over the chamber like a storm cloud because although everyone present already understood that Eclipse was dangerous, very few of them had imagined that the organization’s ambitions extended beyond power, wealth, or influence. Those goals were familiar. History was filled with men who sought to dominate others through money and authority. What Elias had described was something far more disturbing because it suggested that Eclipse no longer viewed itself as part of humanity. It viewed itself as humanity's replacement.Brian remained completely still while studying the older man's face because he had spent years learning how to recognize deception, and nothing about Elias suggested he was exaggerating. The sadness in his eyes felt genuine. The regret sounded genuine. More importantly, Victor Graves' reaction was telling its own story. The architect of Eclipse no longer looked irritated. He looked cornered. For a man like
CHAPTER 208
The First RebelThe massive reinforced door continued sliding open while every person inside the chamber watched in complete silence because after everything that had happened since entering Blackwater Institute, it had become painfully clear that the man standing beyond that threshold represented something far greater than another hidden enemy or forgotten experiment. The reactions from Ian, Victor Graves, and even Brian's mother had already revealed more than words ever could, and the growing tension throughout the facility suggested that the arrival of this mysterious figure threatened foundations that had existed for decades.Brian remained completely still as his eyes stayed fixed on the widening gap because although countless questions were racing through his mind, one stood above all the others. For years he had been chasing fragments of the truth surrounding his family, and every answer seemed to lead him deeper into a maze of secrets connected to Eclipse. Now another piece of
CHAPTER 207
The Man Who Should Have Been DeadThe silence that followed those words seemed to stretch endlessly throughout the chamber because nobody present could fully understand why a single voice had produced such a dramatic reaction. Brian had spent years facing dangerous enemies, powerful families, and ruthless criminals, yet he had never seen Victor Graves look the way he looked now. The architect of Eclipse remained frozen before the observation glass while every trace of confidence slowly drained from his expression, and for the first time since revealing himself, he appeared less like the mastermind behind a global conspiracy and more like a man confronting a ghost from his past. The facility speakers remained active, but the mysterious voice said nothing further as though deliberately allowing the tension to grow. Whoever stood outside the chamber understood exactly what effect his arrival was having, and the patience behind that silence suggested a level of confidence that immediately
CHAPTER 206
What They BuriedThe moment Ian uttered the words "It escaped," a heavy silence settled throughout the underground chamber because despite everything Brian had witnessed since arriving at Blackwater Institute, nothing compared to the reaction that followed. Victor Graves had spent the entire night presenting himself as a man who controlled every variable around him, someone capable of manipulating governments, corporations, and human lives with little more than patience and calculation, yet the confidence that had defined him from the moment he appeared was beginning to crack. The change was subtle enough that most people would have missed it, but Brian did not. For the first time, Victor looked like a man confronting a problem he could not simply control.Another violent tremor rolled through the facility while dust drifted from the ceiling above, and the distant roar that followed seemed to travel through the reinforced walls themselves. The sound was unlike anything Brian had heard
CHAPTER 205
The Prison BelowThe roar that erupted from somewhere beneath Blackwater Institute seemed to shake the entire underground facility because whatever had produced that sound possessed enough power to make reinforced walls vibrate and security systems malfunction simultaneously, and the moment Laura announced that every security lock inside the institute had been opened, a realization spread through everyone present that the situation had just become far more dangerous than any of them had anticipated. For years, Blackwater had operated as one of the most secure facilities in existence. For years, Victor Graves had controlled every room, every corridor, every experiment, and every prisoner. Now that control was gone.Or at the very least, it was slipping away.Red emergency lights flickered back to life throughout portions of the chamber while warning alarms continued screaming from every direction, creating a chaotic atmosphere that felt completely different from the cold precision that
CHAPTER 204
The Ghost Beneath BlackwaterThe moment those three words left his mother's mouth, an unsettling silence spread throughout the underground chamber because although nobody knew exactly who she was referring to, the expression that appeared on Victor Graves' face was enough to tell everyone that whoever existed beyond that hidden passage was connected to secrets buried far deeper than anything they had uncovered so far. For the first time since revealing himself, Victor no longer looked like a man controlling every aspect of the situation, and that alone made the atmosphere feel far more dangerous than before.Brian's eyes remained fixed on the dark corridor that had slowly emerged behind the containment chamber, because every instinct inside him told him this was no coincidence. Nothing inside Blackwater happened by accident. Every door, every prison cell, every experiment, and every conversation had been carefully controlled for years. If a hidden passage were to open now, someone had
