At that moment Serenity leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms as Damien’s calm and detached demeanor washed over her.

His words hung in the air, unshaken, and for a brief moment, doubt began to creep into her mind. She stared at him, her gaze narrowing as she replayed memories of him in her head.

She remembered their encounter with the thugs not too long ago. The way Damien had stood there, frozen, his expression painted with fear.

He hadn’t lifted a finger to help her. In fact, he had looked entirely out of his element, like someone who didn’t belong in that kind of chaos. Someone who wouldn’t know the first thing about fighting or handling himself in a dangerous situation.

Her thoughts lingered there for a few minutes, dissecting every moment, every detail. It didn’t make sense. She finally broke the silence, her voice calmer now but still edged with skepticism. “Looking at you now,” she began, her tone measured, “and thinking back to what I’ve seen before, you don’t seem li

Serenity knew deep down that Damien had already explained himself. Every time she questioned him, his answers had remained consistent, his demeanor calm, almost annoyingly so. And yet, despite everything, she couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that something was off. It wasn’t the words he said but the gaps in what he didn’t. It gnawed at her, a quiet unease she couldn’t ignore. She had replayed the events of that night in her mind a thousand times. The way the Fugitive was defeated, the precision of the attack—it didn’t add up. Damien wasn’t the one who killed the Fugitive; she was sure of that now. He didn’t have the skill or the physicality to pull off something that precise, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t connected to it somehow. However she couldn’t shake the feeling that Damien was hiding something, even if it wasn’t what she initially suspected. At that moment Serenity leaned back in her chair, exhaling deeply. She had decided to let it go, knowing If Damien won’t say anyth

Hearing Serenity threat Damien leaned back slightly, his tone measured and deliberate. “Well,” he began, “that depends on how you want to see it, Serenity.” His calm demeanor only seemed to amplify the tension in the room. He could feel Serenity’s fiery gaze locked onto him, her anger simmering just beneath the surface. Then he straightened up, meeting her eyes. “But let’s not waste anyone’s time here,” he said firmly. “You might have forgotten about the herbs I used for your grandfather, or perhaps you still remember, don't you?”However Serenity didn’t respond. She didn’t nod or show any outward acknowledgment. Her arms remained tightly crossed, her expression hard and unreadable. Yet, she didn’t interrupt him, a sign that despite her anger, she was willing to let him finish, whatever he was going to ask then she will decide if she's going to lock him up or not.“I need two more herbs,” Damien continued, his voice steady. “Without them, I won’t be able to fully treat him.”At th

At that moment Serenity stared at the glowing screen of her phone, debating whether to answer. The name “Elvis” blinked at her insistently. Taking a deep breath, she swiped to pick up. “Hello?” she said, her voice steady, masking the turmoil from her earlier conversation with Damien.“Serenity,” Elvis’s familiar voice came through, calm and warm. “I just wanted to check on you, see how you’re holding up.”Hearing what Elvis just said. Her fingers tightened slightly around the phone. Elvis’s concern was always genuine, yet it carried an undertone of something unspoken. “I’m fine,” she replied, keeping her tone light but brisk. “Thanks for asking.”At that moment there was a brief pause, and Serenity took that moment to gather her thoughts. The earlier discussion with Damien still lingered in her mind, but now wasn’t the time to let that cloud her judgment. Clearing her throat, she decided to broach the topic that had been weighing on her since her conversation with Master George.

Damien reclined on the couch, his thoughts scattered as Sophia’s voice filled the line. She explained that her grandfather had specifically asked to meet Damien, to thank him properly for saving his life. Damien exhaled quietly even after decline, the weight of the request pressing on him. He didn’t like these formalities—gratitude wrapped in grand gestures and public displays. The last time, at the party her family had organized, it had been the same. They’d celebrated her grandfather’s recovery with extravagant speeches and overly polished smiles, but somehow, Damien was almost disgraced.Sophia’s voice softened, almost pleading. “He feels terrible, Damien. That night at the party… things got chaotic, and he didn’t get the chance to properly thank you. This is important to him—and to us.”But Damien wasn’t swayed. The memory of that party lingered in his mind like a bitter aftertaste. He had been invited, yes, but treated as an afterthought—a name barely mentioned, a figure stand

Damien leaned back in his chair, his tone laced with reluctant acceptance. “Alright, Sophia. I’ll think about it.”Sophia, not one to let her guard down, immediately followed up. “Don’t just think about it, Damien. You need to let me know soon. The dinner is tomorrow evening, and my grandfather is really looking forward to seeing you.”At that moment Damien exhaled deeply, his reluctance obvious. “Fine. Don’t worry. I’ll think about it and give you an answer soon. But don’t expect miracles.”However Sophia, sensing she had gotten as much commitment as she was going to get from Damien, let out a small sigh of relief. “Thank you. Just… don’t forget, okay?”At that moment the call ended, and Damien tossed his phone onto the desk, rubbing the back of his neck. He didn’t like being cornered into decisions, and this was no exception. Yet, a part of him knew he wouldn’t simply dismiss the request outright, Sophia had been so kind to him. With a grunt, he pushed the thought aside, deciding

At that moment Damien's fingers hovered over the steering wheel as his phone buzzed incessantly, the familiar number flashing on the screen. Immediately He clenched his jaw, his mind racing back to the unpleasant memories tied to that name—London. Their first encounter at the restaurant had left a bitter taste in Damien’s mouth, followed by that late-night call filled with hollow threats over Sophia. He had no patience for this man, no desire to hear whatever excuse or venom he wanted to spit this time. However The phone continued ringing, loud and persistent. Damien stared at it, his lips pressed into a thin line. ‘Not now. Not ever,’ he thought. With a deliberate motion, he reached over and silenced the call. The buzzing ceased, and the car fell into silence once more, save for the low hum of the engine. Then he exhaled deeply, gripping the wheel tighter as he focused back on the road. But his resolve was tested again when the phone lit up for the second time, the same number gla

At that moment Damien paused, his curiosity piqued despite himself. “Yes, I’m looking for that herb,” he admitted cautiously. “Why are you calling me about it, London? What’s your angle?”Immediately London’s voice came through the line with an air of confidence, almost as if he had been waiting for this question. “What if I told you I could help you get it? Not just eventually, but immediately,” he said, his tone laced with an undercurrent calmness. At that moment Damien’s eyebrows furrowed. The proposal caught him off guard. It had taken Serenity, with all her connections, some effort to acquire the herb, and she had only managed to secure it because of her family’s reputation. The idea that London, of all people, could deliver it so effortlessly seemed far-fetched. Still, Damien couldn’t dismiss the possibility entirely. What is he playing at? Damien thought. How could he have access to such a rare herb?Though Damien no longer desperately needed the herb—thanks to Serenity—his mi

Damien leaned forward, his gaze locked on London as the soft hum of the restaurant buzzed around them. His patience was wearing thin, but his curiosity outweighed his irritation. “Alright, London,” he said firmly, “I’ll ask again. What do you want in exchange for the herbs?”At that moment He braced himself, fully expecting London to demand something petty or vindictive—most likely related to Sophia. Probably wants me to stay away from her, Damien thought. It would be typical of London, a man driven by his insecurities and possessiveness. To Damien’s surprise, London leaned back in his chair, an amused smile creeping across his face. “Nothing,” he said casually, swirling the wine in his glass. “I don’t want anything.”Damien froze, his eyebrows shooting up in disbelief. “You don’t want anything?” he repeated, his tone skeptical. “You’re just willing to hand over the herbs, just like that? Without asking for anything in return?”At that moment London chuckled, clearly enjoying Damien
