His fingers grazed the edge of a tool inside the briefcase, and he glanced at her one last time.

“Then we’ll force the truth out of you. And by the time we’re done… you won’t even know what hit you.”

At that moment the man opened the lower compartment of the metal briefcase and lifted out a small steel object—something that looked like a miniature armor casing. The sharp metallic gleam bounced off the dim light above, and for a moment, Sophia couldn’t even breathe.

She watched in horror as he unsnapped the second layer. Inside, a thin row of glinting needles lay in order—longer than average, yet delicate enough to sink beneath the skin without leaving an immediate trace. He picked one, held it between his fingers, and ran it gently across his thumb as if testing its sharpness.

Sophia flinched hard against the chair, but the ropes on her wrists only dug deeper into her skin. Her ankles burned with pressure. Her entire body shook, helpless and bound. There was nowhere to run. Nowhere to

Then, at that moment, Viteria’s father’s younger brother Ed Barlow let out a low breath, the frustration tightening his throat. His voice came through the phone, calm yet laced with restrained anger.“Sadly, I don’t have any of that,” he muttered. “No information, no one to question either. I’m sorry to inform you, brother, but... the people are gone. The house is empty. There’s nobody here.”Again he looked around the mess of clothes and disturbed furniture, his eyes cold, his jaw locked. “They didn’t just leave casually either. It’s clear... they ran.”For a moment, there was a silence on the line, a heavy silence, and then, through the phone, he could hear the sound of movement, and the sharp exhale of breath. Then Victoria’s father’s voice came in, low at first, but burning with rage beneath the surface.“So... my suspicions were actually true,” he hissed. Then, the sound of a chair scraping harshly against the floor broke through the phone, he had stood up. His heavy footsteps ec

At that moment, seeing that Ramos was truly gone, his frail body finally resting in complete stillness, Damien closed his eyes slowly. Then a deep sigh escaped his chest, heavy and long, as if he was trying to exhale the weight of his own disappointment. At that moment he shook his head gently, not in anger, but in quiet regret. He wanted this day, this whole day to be for Ramos. He wanted to sit with him, talk with him, maybe even share a laugh. He wanted to hear the old man’s stories again, even if they were stories he had heard before. He wanted to remind Ramos that his life, his loyalty, everything he had done for the family, had not been for nothing.But... now it was too late, that chance was gone, just like that. All Damien had now was the heavy silence and the presence of a man who had given everything to a family legacy, only to bow out in the most peaceful, quiet way without a final word, without a goodbye. He sat there for a moment, unmoving, as if hoping Ramos would sudde

He shook his head slowly, the smile on his face faint but genuine. “I wanted to know. Many times, I wanted to open it. But I didn’t. Not even once. I didn’t even let the thought grow, because I knew the weight of the promise I made.”His eyes glistened faintly, a tired but peaceful gaze.“But now that it’s finally in your hands...” Ramos continued, his voice trailing with hope, “I have one request, Master Damien. One request before I go.”Damien sat up slightly, his attention focused.“I want to know... what’s inside that box.” Ramos’ lips trembled with the confession. “That’s all. Let me leave this world without that curiosity still sitting in my chest. I’ve wondered for too long.”For a brief moment, Damien was silent, his eyes heavy on the box. Then, he looked back at Ramos and gave a slow, steady nod.“No problem,” Damien said calmly. “Since that’s what you want... I’ll open it.”His fingers brushed lightly over the wooden surface, his gaze steady, prepared to reveal the secret th

At that moment, hearing what Ramos had just said, Damien didn’t speak immediately. He stood there for a brief moment, his eyes fixed on the old Ramos whose body was already giving way to time. Then, without saying a word, he walked forward, his steps calm and deliberate. He reached for a chair positioned beside Ramos, pulled it out gently, and sat down slowly, his gaze still locked on the old Ramos’s fragile figure.Damien leaned forward slightly, his elbows resting on his knees, his voice steady but low.“Ramos... you’re talking too much,” he said, his eyes narrowing faintly but not in irritation, more in quiet disappointment. “I didn’t come all this way for this.”At that moment Ramos managed to looked at him, confused for a moment, his lips parting slightly as if to speak again, but Damien raised a hand lightly to stop him.“I came here to see you,” Damien continued. “To talk to you... to spend these last moments with you. Not for all this you’re saying.”Then his voice softened, b

At that moment, Damien inhaled deeply, steadying himself before he finally stepped forward and walked into the mansion. The moment he approached the grand entrance, the massive double doors opened almost automatically, revealing the polished brilliance of the interior. Standing at the entrance were three servants, all neatly dressed, their posture straight and formal. As soon as Damien crossed the threshold, the three of them bowed deeply, their heads low in respect as he walked past without sparing them a glance.Further inside, security guards stationed along the hallways caught sight of him. Without hesitation, each of them, one after another, bowed silently as Damien made his way deeper into the mansion, his steps steady, his face unreadable. Then, the butler, an elderly man with a sharp appearance and quiet grace, appeared from one of the side corridors. Upon seeing Damien, the butler immediately bowed respectfully, his voice low but clear.“Sir... this way,” the butler said, his

At that moment, hearing what his brother had just said, he narrowed his eyes, his jaw clenching tightly. He stood firmly, his gaze never leaving his elder brother’s face as he asked with a deep, heavy voice, “Then tell me... what are you suggesting?”His tone was sharp, layered with controlled impatience written all over it. “Where are you driving at with all this? Are you suspecting anybody? If that’s the case, just say it.”He took a step forward, his fists tightening at his sides. “Just give me the go-ahead, brother. If there’s someone you have in mind, say the word, and I will crush them, I will grind them into powder.” His voice grew colder, his eyes sharper. “No one disrespects this family... no one takes from us and breathes easy, I mean no one.”At that moment the room was filled with his threat, his promise of destruction hanging in the air like a sharp blade waiting to fall. But Victoria’s father didn’t react hastily. He sat back, resting one hand on the armrest, the other
