The great devouring
CHAPTER 1: THE GREAT DEVOURING
"Do not look up. Just keep running." Kael shouted. His voice barely cut through the deafening roar of the fracturing sky. "I cannot ignore it, Kael." Eira stumbled on the jagged cobblestones. "The sky is bleeding." "I said keep moving." He grabbed her wrist tight. "If the Devouring touches you, there is no coming back. It does not just kill you. It completely erases you from the timeline." "Where are we even going?" "Away from the Spire." "The Crimson Spire is falling apart." Eira gasped for air as they sprinted down the narrow alley. "Everything is falling apart." "I know." "You knew he was going to do this." She pulled back and forced him to stop. "You knew he was going to tear the sky open." "I knew he was planning something massive." Kael kept his voice low. He scanned the crumbling rooftops. "I did not know it would look like this." "You lied to me." "I omitted the worst parts to keep you moving forward." "That is lying, Kael." "Call it whatever you want." He pulled her behind a shattered stone wall as a wave of dark energy swept past them. "But we have to survive the next ten minutes. We can argue about my morality later." "Tell me." She ripped her arm away completely. "Tell me right now or I am not taking another step." "You are being stubborn and it will get us killed." He stepped closer. The shadows of the alley hid his expression but his breathing was heavy. Footsteps echoed from the street they just crossed. Heavy boots hitting the wet pavement. "They are not the authorities," he whispered. "They are the Vanguard. If they find you with the drive, they will erase you. Literally." Her grip on the small metal cylinder tightened. The cold metal pressed against her palm. She looked at the street corner. A flashlight beam swept across the brick wall. "Fine," she said. "Move." He turned and sprinted down the narrow passage. She followed close behind. The damp air burned her lungs. Trash bags and broken crates blocked their path. He vaulted over them without slowing down. She scrambled over the debris. A rat scurried across her shoe but she did not scream. Fear kept her silent. They reached a heavy iron door at the end of the alley. He pulled a rusted key from his pocket. The lock clicked loudly. Too loudly. A voice shouted from behind them. "There." Gunfire erupted. Bricks shattered above her head. Dust rained down on her hair. He shoved her through the open doorway and slammed the iron door shut. The heavy deadbolt slid into place just as bullets hammered against the metal on the outside. She collapsed onto the concrete floor. The darkness inside the room was absolute. She gasped for air. Her legs trembled uncontrollably. "We made it," he said. His voice sounded strained. A harsh fluorescent light flickered on above them. She blinked against the sudden glare. The room was not an empty safehouse. It was a fully equipped laboratory. Blood stained the pristine white tiles in the center of the floor. A man in a sharp suit stood at the far end of the room. He slowly clapped his hands. "Excellent work bringing her to me," the man said. She looked up at the person she had trusted. He did not look surprised. He raised his hands and stepped away from her. "I am sorry," he said. "It was the only way to clear my debt."Expand

Threads Of The Devoured Demanding answers
CHAPTER 50: DEMANDING ANSWERS"Where is Kael?" Eira demanded, her voice echoing in the desolate expanse. The Architect merely smiled, a chillingly serene expression that sent a shiver down her spine."Patience, my dear Eira. All in due time. First, you must understand what is at stake."Eira narrowed her eyes, her heart pounding against her ribs like a trapped bird. The wind howled around them, carrying whispers of forgotten souls, and the air crackled with an energy that both terrified and intrigued her. She had to play along, at least for now, if she had any hope of saving Kael and stopping whatever twisted plan the Architect had in store."I'm listening," she said, her voice barely above a whisper."Good," the Architect purred, his violet eyes gleaming with an unsettling light. "Then let us begin." ***"They'll be here any minute," Silas hissed, his eyes darting nervously around the small, dilapidated shack. Sweat beaded on his forehead, and his hands trembled as he adjusted

Threads Of The Devoured What you think
CHAPTER 49: WHAT YOU THINK “You think you can control me?” Eira spat, the words echoing in the vast chamber. The Architect smiled, a slow, deliberate expression that didn’t reach his violet eyes. “Control is such a… crude word, Scion. I prefer ‘guide.’ You’re a masterpiece waiting to be unveiled, a power source untapped. Why linger in ignorance?”Cross-cutting between the Architect and Kael in the Halls. In the Echoing Halls, Kael staggered against a wall, shadows clawing at him. His vision blurred, but he clung to the one thing anchoring him: Eira. A whisper of her name escaped his lips, a desperate plea against the encroaching darkness. Now, back in the chamber.“You speak of ignorance,” Eira retorted, “but you’re the one blinded by your obsession. Tenebrous isn’t yours to mold.”“Isn’t it?” The Architect gestured around the chamber, his voice laced with theatrical sorrow. “Look around you, Eira. The boundaries have crumbled. The Great Convergence is upon us. This world is f

Threads Of The Devoured The great deception
CHAPTER 48: THE GREAT DECEPTION"Who are you really?" Eira demanded, the question hanging heavy in the desolate air. The Violet-Eyed Figure smiled, a chilling gesture that did little to soothe her unease.“I am the architect of your destiny, Eira. The one who sees the potential you refuse to acknowledge.”“My destiny? You mean as your puppet, twisting Tenebrous into some perverted image of order?” Eira spat, her voice laced with defiance despite the tremor in her hands.“Order arises from chaos, Eira. You, as a Scion of the Shadowborn, possess the power to shape that chaos. Why resist?”[Scene Change]Kael’s head throbbed, each pulse echoing through the labyrinthine corridors of his mind. *Eira… where are you?* He pushed against the encroaching shadows, their whispers promising power, but demanding his soul in return.*No. I won’t let them take me.*He focused on the memory of Eira’s face, the fire in her eyes, the soft curve of her smile. It was a fragile beacon in the all-co

Or rather, where your new home shall be." He gestured grandly, and the swirling violet clouds parted to reveal a grotesque cityscape of obsidian towers piercing the crimson sky.Kael’s voice, distorted and distant, echoed in her mind. *Eira, don’t listen to him! It’s a trap!* "Kael?" she whispered, desperate to reach him, but the link felt frayed and weak.*I’m here, Eira, but I don’t know for how long.*"See, my dear? Even now, he clings to you. Such devotion… it’s almost touching. But misplaced, wouldn’t you agree?" The Architect stepped closer, his eyes gleaming with an unholy light. “You, Eira, were meant for so much more than a tortured soul like Kael.”"
