Joseph slowly turned to look at the woman going berserk in front of him. If he remained silent now, she would continue to scream. He didn’t want to get himself into trouble.

“I’m sorry, but this seat is mine. And I see no reason to give it up to you.”

“You really have no respect! I’ll give you five seconds, and if you haven’t left by then, I’ll call security. You’ll become the laughingstock of this entire assembly!”

After finishing her threat, the secretary began counting, thinking that if she did so, Joseph would surely be scared. But it seemed she was wrong. Joseph still had no intention of leaving. As she reached the fifth count, suddenly, a familiar voice echoed from behind.

“Joseph is my friend. There’s no reason to call security on him.”

The secretary, who had been aggressive just now, immediately shrunk back and obediently stepped back. Fear was clear in her eyes. Normally, Charlotte might look gentle, but she knew, once an angry woman like her got angry, she would be terrifying. She felt a special emotion in Charlotte’s treatment of Joseph, not just casual as it appeared on the surface.

“Charlotte, why are you here?” Anthony saw Charlotte coming and immediately approached her.

Charlotte was about to respond when suddenly, her phone rang in her purse. As soon as she picked it up and listened, Charlotte was frightened. On the other end, someone announced that Watts was preparing to remove her company from the partnership list. This could be the last time she appeared here, at the Watt’s party. The shocking news made Charlotte slump into her chair, feeling like all her efforts were finally in vain. The greater the hope, the greater the disappointment.

The cooperation with Watts had a tremendous impact on the newly established Afea company. It was not only a crucial step, but also the biggest opportunity for Afea. With the support of Watts, Afea would quickly develop. Conversely, this could be the end of Afea’s career. It could be said that they failed at the very beginning.

“How could this happen! I’ve put so much effort and dedication into this plan! Not to mention, I’ve invested a lot of money into it too!”

“How can you call it a failure!” Charlotte said, hugging her head. Pain and despair were clear on her beautiful face.

Joseph glanced at the young girl in front of him before turning his gaze back to the phone screen. His subordinate, Coco, had provided him with information about Charlotte’s company and some potential companies, requiring him to decide. And of course, whether Watts would cooperate with Afena was also up to him. That was the “attached gift” that the Watts family had given him.

“Choose Afena.” Joseph sent a text message. He was actually hesitant, but facing the soft and fragile young girl in front of him, combined with the three years of marriage with her, he softened. More than anyone else, Joseph knew that Afena was Charlotte’s heart.

Meanwhile, Charlotte still sat huddled in her chair, looking lost. Both she and her secretary were unaware that Joseph had protected their status, so they were extremely fearful. Everyone knew how difficult it was to change Watts’ decision. They had nothing to exchange for Watts’ trust and cooperation.

“Charlotte, don’t be too sad. How about this? Let me call my dad and ask him to speak up for you? After all, my father has a pretty close relationship with the head of the Watts family.” Anthony spoke up to comfort her.

“Thank you very much. Please bother you to make that call.” The secretary, like finding a lifeline, immediately embraced Anthony’s arm.

Anthony didn’t say much. He took out his phone from his pocket and called his father. After a while of ringing, someone finally answered the call on the other end.

“Dad, I have a favor to ask. Can you speak up for Charlotte’s company to the Watts’ people? Afena really has...”

Before Anthony could finish, his father abruptly hung up.

“What happened? Did your dad agree?”

“Antony, I truly admire you. Not only talented and kind-hearted but also with such an enviable background.” The secretary looked at Anthony, her eyes filled with admiration and gratitude.

“Yes, I’ve spoken to my father. Everything will be fine.”

Anthony lied without batting an eyelid. Now that he’d talked about his father’s refusal to listen and hung up midway, wouldn’t it be extremely embarrassing? No, he mustn’t lose face in front of Charlotte. Joseph was here; Anthony wanted to tease Joseph a bit. He wanted to show Joseph that he was the one Charlotte needed. Someone with enough money and power to protect her.

Joseph glanced at Anthony but said nothing. Anthony’s provocative gaze was calm to notice, but he and Anthony were from two different echelons. Joseph had no reason to compete with that inferior person.

Just then, Charlotte’s phone suddenly rang. Charlotte looked at the unfamiliar number on the phone screen.

“Hello, is this Miss Charlotte, the founder of Afea?”

“Yes, it’s me.” Charlotte responded, full of suspicion.

“Allow me to introduce myself. I’m the CEO of Watts. Congratulations to you and Afea. Afea has officially become a business partner of Watts.”

The information came as a complete surprise, leaving Charlotte startled. The individuals who provided those assessments had yet to reveal themselves at tonight’s gathering, and she wasn’t even sure who the powerful heir of the Watts family was. Yet, she was astonished to find that they silently held her in high regard at the party.

Charlotte believed in her own capabilities, but she knew her company still hadn’t truly attracted many business connections. To earn respect from the Watts family, her achievements alone weren’t sufficient. Moreover, there were plenty of peers competing with her. Someone must have quietly extended a helping hand from the shadows. And for this, she could only think of one person.

It turns out Anthony hadn’t lied to her. He truly could network like this.

Joseph nodded slightly, not showing any emotion. "Charlotte is still safe, right?" Joseph asked, his voice calm, but his eyes intently watching Coco's reaction. This was his way of probing her, not about Charlotte, but for any sign that she knew or was involved in the death. Coco abruptly lifted her head, her eyes filled with anger. "What are you talking about, Joseph? Why would you ask me that? Do you think I don't care about Charlotte?" The anger in Coco's voice made Joseph realize he had touched on something sensitive. But what was she angry about? Because he suspected her, or because she really had something to hide? "I meant no harm, Coco," Joseph replied, trying to calm the situation. "I just want to make sure everything is okay... between us and with Charlotte." But he knew his words wouldn't soothe her anger. Coco stood up abruptly, her eyes full of frustration and rage. "Joseph, what kind of person do you think I am? I've always been by your side, helping you th

  • Chapter 198:

Joseph stood amidst the lively atmosphere of the party, but his mind felt lost in a maze of confusion. He tried to piece together the fragments of the events, but the more he thought about it, the more complicated everything became. If Jayce wasn’t the one who killed Charlotte, and he wasn’t behind Mrs. Smith’s death either, then Jayce must be panicking. Two key pawns Jayce had planned to use to threaten him had mysteriously vanished. So, who was behind all of this?Joseph couldn’t stop asking himself questions. “Is there someone silently helping me, or do they have a bigger agenda?” The appearance of a third force in this game could completely change the outcome. This made him uneasy. If someone was helping him, why would they choose such a method? And if they had ulterior motives, was he becoming a pawn in their hands?Looking over at Jayce, Joseph noticed that although Jayce outwardly appeared calm, he was likely in turmoil inside. Coco approached him, her eyes filled with concer

The murder case,” a woman in a red dress turned to her companion, her voice trembling. “The killer hasn’t been caught yet, and the police have no leads.”“How terrifying! So close to here too, who would have thought something like this could happen in such a peaceful place,” her friend replied, nervously glancing around.People began to speculate about the murder, with theories spreading quickly and seemingly without end. Everyone presented their own assumptions, creating a tense atmosphere. Some suggested a family feud, while others thought it might be an act of revenge.“It could be robbery gone wrong… or maybe some kind of vendetta? I heard the victim was the mother of a wealthy CEO,” a man suggested.“But

Coco hurried into the party, her eyes scanning the crowd anxiously as she searched for Joseph. She looked around frantically, her breath quickening as she walked swiftly past groups of guests engaged in conversation. Coco called softly, her voice a bit urgent. "Where have you been? I didn’t see you at all during the party."Joseph turned to face her, giving a faint smile but maintaining his calm demeanor. "I just stepped out for some personal business, nothing important," he said smoothly, though there was a subtle tension in his eyes that Coco couldn’t ignore.Coco frowned, the uneasy feeling in her heart growing stronger. "Personal business? Are you sure?" she asked gently, her voice full of concern. "I tried calling you several times, but you didn’t pick up. Is something wrong?"Joseph looked straight into Coco’s ey
