Charlotte looked at Anthony, her eyes filled with gratitude. She felt like, in that moment, the allure of the man before her increased another notch. She gently brushed her hair and smiled coyly. “Thank you so much, Anthony. Without you, my company, Afea, wouldn’t have could collaborate with such a prominent family.”
Faced with the admiring gaze of the woman, Anthony couldn’t help but puff up his chest a bit. He smiled brightly and waved his hand. “Between you and me, there’s no need for such formal gratitude. To me, this is just a small matter.”
Rebecca, standing next to Charlotte, also praised Anthony wholeheartedly, using flowery language to elevate him. Anthony momentarily felt a surge of satisfaction. He chuckled falsely, pretending that he could easily solve any problem.
However, in his heart, he pondered a few other issues deeply. Just now, he called his old man just to test his luck, to score a few more points in the eyes of the beautiful woman. He didn’t think his family’s reputation could also influence the behind-the-scenes figures of the Watts family.
His old man had never told him about this matter. Furthermore, even if they truly networked with some high-ranking figures, those people wouldn’t act so quickly.
So, was it really his old man’s help, or was this just an extremely random coincidence?
Regardless of what it was, the goal of winning the heart of the beautiful woman had been achieved. He smirked, his eyes narrowing with cunning. At this rate, Charlotte’s resources would eventually fall into his hands.
After achieving the desired result, Rebecca returned to her arrogant attitude next to Charlotte. She deliberately laughed loudly so that the man sitting next to them could hear her derogatory remarks:
“Indeed, someone with capabilities, finances, and connections. Just a move and they can lure the golden fish of the Watts family into their hands. Unlike some who can only act like lapdogs, hiding under a woman’s skirt and the label of a wife!”
The sarcasm in her words was too apparent. Joseph chuckled lightly, looking elsewhere, noticing the confusion in Charlotte’s eyes. His heart grew colder.
No one bothered to scold those mad dogs barking nonsense. Joseph focused on the glass of red wine in his hand, completely ignoring Rebecca’s gibes.
His indifferent attitude infuriated Rebecca. Anthony also had time to add a sneer:
“Some people just love to put on airs, clearly not guests but insist on sitting here. Don’t you feel ashamed?”
“Anthony, perhaps you don’t know, but he actually has no family. He’s lacked education and basic manners since childhood. We should show some sympathy for this misfortune,” Charlotte interjected.
Rebecca laughed disdainfully, and Anthony’s eyes were filled with mockery. Joseph set down his glass of red wine heavily on the table. He slowly looked up at the two, his blue eyes reflecting a chillingly gloomy emotion.
“Coming out so quickly, you two must surely think the Watts family chose Afea because of him?”
Rebecca retorted immediately, “If not, then what? Do you also want to vie for credit in this matter?”
“Your tone reeks of envy,” Rebecca concluded. “An untalented person like you has no right to stand here, let alone speak doubt about others. Do you really understand the issues of the family that you dare to take part?”
Joseph shook his head. Why would Charlotte keep such a worthless person by her side for support? He gazed deeply into her eyes, his voice low:
“I advise you, if someone truly helped you, it’s best to see tangible evidence. Clinging to the favor of someone unworthy will lead to a lot of trouble later on.”
Rebecca remained silent. She looked towards Anthony, hoping he could embarrass this former boss of hers. She used to resent Joseph for his patient endurance, but now she wanted to take advantage of any opportunity to step on him.
Anthony chuckled faintly, confidently holding onto the hypotheses he had constructed. He took out his phone, and in front of everyone, dialed his father’s number. They were all waiting for Joseph to be embarrassed.
After a few seconds, a voice came from the other end. Anthony’s father spoke with an impatient tone:
“What’s the matter?”
“Just now, Afea Company has been chosen to collaborate with the Watts conglomerate soon. Dad, who did you contact to help them?”
On the other end, the tone remained impatient:
“They got selected? A small company like them doesn’t need to report back to me, Anthony. Moreover, I didn’t meddle with them and their chairman. Bringing up trivial matters like this, they won’t have a good impression of me.”
Before hanging up, Anthony’s father added:
“Don’t bother me with your childish antics anymore, dealing with those women you can’t handle. Useless!”
Joseph heard every word the man said.
He had a hearing far superior to ordinary people because of his martial arts training since childhood. Coupled with his high intelligence, his senses were extremely sharp. He heard the reprimand and denial from Anthony’s father and saw Anthony’s pale face hidden in the dim light of a corner.
Anthony himself didn’t understand what had just happened. He was not the one who helped Charlotte succeed in the bidding war. So who was it? Lost in thought, Joseph’s voice slowly spoke up:
“So, it’s time to tell the truth, isn’t it? What did your father say to you?”
Anthony looked up. The trust and expectation in his secretary’s and Charlotte’s eyes made him choked up. He couldn’t lie. Now that he had thrown the spear, he had to follow through with it. Most importantly, he couldn’t let himself lose face in front of such an opponent. Anthony bit his lip, still trying to appear confident:
“What else could it be? Of course, my father helped Charlotte so that the chairman of the conglomerate could recognize Afea’s potential. It’s just a small matter.”
Joseph frowned, surprised that this person could be so shameless. Rebecca, upon hearing the confirmation she had been waiting for, turned to Joseph, the disdain in her words even more pronounced:
“Haven’t we warned you not to make wild assumptions? It’s already been confirmed. What else do you want? Aren’t you going to apologize for your doubts?”

Chapter 200:
Joseph nodded slightly, not showing any emotion. "Charlotte is still safe, right?" Joseph asked, his voice calm, but his eyes intently watching Coco's reaction. This was his way of probing her, not about Charlotte, but for any sign that she knew or was involved in the death. Coco abruptly lifted her head, her eyes filled with anger. "What are you talking about, Joseph? Why would you ask me that? Do you think I don't care about Charlotte?" The anger in Coco's voice made Joseph realize he had touched on something sensitive. But what was she angry about? Because he suspected her, or because she really had something to hide? "I meant no harm, Coco," Joseph replied, trying to calm the situation. "I just want to make sure everything is okay... between us and with Charlotte." But he knew his words wouldn't soothe her anger. Coco stood up abruptly, her eyes full of frustration and rage. "Joseph, what kind of person do you think I am? I've always been by your side, helping you th

Coco walked beside him silently, holding his arm securely, her eyes betraying her concern. At last, the door to the room appeared before them. Coco gently opened it and helped Joseph inside, closing it behind them. As soon as the door shut, the atmosphere in the room changed completely. Faint light filtered through the curtains, casting soft shadows across the room.Joseph turned on the light, a soft golden glow spilling throughout the space. Chapter 198:
Joseph stood amidst the lively atmosphere of the party, but his mind felt lost in a maze of confusion. He tried to piece together the fragments of the events, but the more he thought about it, the more complicated everything became. If Jayce wasn’t the one who killed Charlotte, and he wasn’t behind Mrs. Smith’s death either, then Jayce must be panicking. Two key pawns Jayce had planned to use to threaten him had mysteriously vanished. So, who was behind all of this?Joseph couldn’t stop asking himself questions. “Is there someone silently helping me, or do they have a bigger agenda?” The appearance of a third force in this game could completely change the outcome. This made him uneasy. If someone was helping him, why would they choose such a method? And if they had ulterior motives, was he becoming a pawn in their hands?Looking over at Jayce, Joseph noticed that although Jayce outwardly appeared calm, he was likely in turmoil inside. Coco approached him, her eyes filled with concer

The murmurs in the hall grew louder, and the once formal atmosphere of the party began to descend into chaos. Groups of guests gathered, whispering about the murder near the café. Faces were filled with anxiety, and eyes darted around, searching for an explanation.“Did you hear? The murder case,” a woman in a red dress turned to her companion, her voice trembling. “The killer hasn’t been caught yet, and the police have no leads.”“How terrifying! So close to here too, who would have thought something like this could happen in such a peaceful place,” her friend replied, nervously glancing around.People began to speculate about the murder, with theories spreading quickly and seemingly without end. Everyone presented their own assumptions, creating a tense atmosphere. Some suggested a family feud, while others thought it might be an act of revenge.“It could be robbery gone wrong… or maybe some kind of vendetta? I heard the victim was the mother of a wealthy CEO,” a man suggested.“But

Coco hurried into the party, her eyes scanning the crowd anxiously as she searched for Joseph. She looked around frantically, her breath quickening as she walked swiftly past groups of guests engaged in conversation. Her gaze finally landed on Joseph, who stood near a corner of the room, his face tired and pensive. Coco approached him, unable to hide the worry in her eyes."Joseph!" Coco called softly, her voice a bit urgent. "Where have you been? I didn’t see you at all during the party."Joseph turned to face her, giving a faint smile but maintaining his calm demeanor. "I just stepped out for some personal business, nothing important," he said smoothly, though there was a subtle tension in his eyes that Coco couldn’t ignore.Coco frowned, the uneasy feeling in her heart growing stronger. "Personal business? Are you sure?" she asked gently, her voice full of concern. "I tried calling you several times, but you didn’t pick up. Is something wrong?"Joseph looked straight into Coco’s ey
