The whole crowd in the courtroom began to celebrate when Scott was sentenced. They were all glad that after many months justice was finally being served.

Scott, on the other hand, just sat there in silence with an expressionless look on his face. After Caleb told him those words yesterday he already prepared himself for this, so he wasn't disappointed.

"I'm sorry. I did my best." The attorney, who defended Scott, muttered. Scott paid no attention to him as he just sat there in silence, and his gaze fixed on the floor.

Officers approached him and grabbed his arms, accompanying him back to the truck.

"You are lucky it wasn't a death penalty!" A man among the crowd spat, his voice filled with disdain.

"This bastard should be killed!" A woman voiced out.

"Life imprisonment isn't bad though. At least he won't get to see the outside world for the rest of his life!"

Scott kept walking back to the truck with the officers beside him, ignoring the words of the people around him. He stepped into

  • A web of deceit

"Uhm..." Kelly stuttered, her voice barely steady. "Just a friend of mine. She was only calling to check up on me," she said with a weak smile.Scott observed her carefully for a moment, then gave a slow nod. "Ah, I see." He shifted his weight slightly. "I just came to tell you I’ll be heading out now. I have to check in at the company and also visit some of the leaders from the powerful houses. I still need more men and weapons."Kelly blinked in confusion. "Why do you need more men? The war is over, right? The leader is dead.""Yes, Mohammed Al-Shammari is dead…" Scott replied with measured clarity, "but there’s no guarantee his followers will back down. There's a real possibility they might retaliate. We need to remain vigilant and prepared at all times."Kelly gave a slow, acknowledging nod. "I see...""I’ve already informed Angela about what to do. She’ll take care of Edward, just like we agreed," Scott added, glancing toward the hallway. She nodded again in silence. "I'll take m

Kelly stared at the screen of her phone for several moments, a puzzled expression etched deeply across her face.It was an unknown caller. She hesitated, her thumb hovering over the answer button, before finally pressing it."Hello, Kelly," a deep, familiar voice rumbled the moment she accepted the call. The sound of the voice sent shivers coursing down her spine. Her heart skipped a beat, and beads of cold sweat trickled down her temples, dampening her skin."You know who this is, don't you?" the voice asked with calm menace.Kelly didn’t answer right away. She let the words settle inside her like a weight before finally gulping down the lump in her throat and responding, her voice trembling, "You’re supposed to be dead. They said you were dead. How are you alive?""Yeah, they really thought they killed me," Mohammed bellowed with cold amusement. "How dumb of them to think they could get rid of me so easily.""But… how? How did you survive?" Kelly stammered, her voice now a low whisp

  • Is it over?

"I'm sure of it, boss. There's no way he survived the fall. I saw it with my own eyes. He's dead," Kael assured, after receiving nothing but silence from Scott.Scott still remained mute, his gaze fixed on the concrete floor, his head filled with thoughts.Mohammed dying today was the last thing he expected to happen. He never thought Kael and his men would be able to take him down… but somehow, they did.He wanted to believe they were lying, that they hadn’t actually killed him… but the rest of his men also assured him. They told him they witnessed it. They saw him go off the cliff and die. With the group of witnesses backing the story, he saw no reason not to believe the words they were saying. If he truly was dead, then the vendetta was over. He had won. This wasn’t the type of ending Scott had expected. In fact, he wasn’t expecting it to end any time soon… but it was truly over.He finally raised his head to meet Kael’s gaze.Scott placed his right hand on his shoulder and squeeze

  • Victory?

"A list? What's on the list?" Angela asked, curiosity evident in her eyes."Just one thing," Scott responded."And what's that?" she inquired."Kill a man," Scott replied instantly.Hearing those words from Scott, Angela’s eyes widened in shock. She opened her mouth to speak, but before she could utter a word, the entrance door of the office creaked open—and in stepped a man.He was clad in a white T-shirt, though it was so dirty it now looked brown. His trousers were torn, and his hair was unkempt, tangled into messy strands that hadn’t seen a comb in days.Scott stared at the man for a few long seconds, his brow furrowing as he tried to place the face. It took him a little while to recognize him.“Sullivan?” Scott blurted out in disbelief, rising to his feet.“Sullivan?” Angela repeated quietly to herself, her mind racing as she tried to recall where she had heard that name before—and when she had known him. A few moments later, the memory clicked into place. “Wait… the same guy who

  • Worry

Scott walked down the dimly lit hallway, and a few moments later, he arrived in front of his personal office. He pushed the door open and walked inside, then made his way toward his chair. He sat down in silence and folded his arms, his head filled with restless thoughts. Now that Matteo Montanari had agreed to help him—and had also given him his men, along with a promise to secure more soldiers and weapons from the houses under his command—Scott now held the upper hand against Mohammed Al-Shammari. He could easily launch an attack and end everything at once... but there was a problem. He had no idea where Mohammed’s base was located. All he knew was that they were somewhere in Italy, but he didn’t know the exact location.“Those bastards,” Scott cursed under his breath. “They know exactly where I am, where I’m going, and who I’m meeting... yet I have no idea where they are or what they’re planning. I might have more men and better weapons than they do, but all of it is useless when I

  • Survival at any cost

Screech!!!A loud screeching sound echoed as Scott's men hit the brakes and came to a halt a few paces away from the edge of the cliff. Kael leaped off the car and landed on the ground, his gun clenched tightly in his right hand as he advanced forward, making his way toward the edge. The rest of the men on top of their cars also leaped off and walked behind him. They all came to a halt at the cliff’s edge and glanced all the way down.“Is he insane or what?” one of the men in a black suit asked, his gaze fixed on the waters below. Mohammed’s car was barely visible. Only the top could be seen, and a few seconds later, the car was no longer visible as it sank into the water.“I knew he was a nut job, but I wasn’t actually expecting him to drive off a cliff,” another man muttered.“Do you think he’s dead?” he asked, turning toward Kael.“I don’t think he survived that,” Kael bellowed, his gaze never leaving the waters below. “He’s injured. There’s no way he’d be able to swim. We’d have s
