Lucien stood in his study, the message still in his hand. The handwriting was unmistakable it was Elias’s.

Maybe Elias wanted him to be surprised on how it got into his chamber

He read it one last time, every word confirming what he feared, Serena was being used.

Without a word, he walked over to the small metal tray near the fireplace. He lit a candle, touched the flame to the edge of the paper, and watched it burn.

The message curled in the fire, turning to ash, but the memory of it stayed sharp in his mind.

“Guard,” he called out

One of his guards appeared. “My lord?” he bowed

“Go and bring Maverick to me. Quietly. No one should notice.”

The guard bowed again and left quickly.

Lucien returned to his desk, sitting down with a slow breath.

He wasn’t surprised Serena was involved, but it still stung. He had seen something in her once or maybe he just wanted to.

Moments later, Maverick entered, head bowed. “You called for me, my lord?”

Lucien nodded. “Follow Serena. Discreetly. I

The palace grounds were quieter than usual, cloaked in the hush that only came with night. Elira kept her head down beneath her dark cloak, her steps light as she made her way past the guards. Her heart thudded against her ribs like a warning drum, but she didn’t stop. She shouldn’t be here. Not at this hour, not alone. But the need for answers was louder than her fear. She slipped through a side entrance, one she remembered from her childhood visits and crept along the narrow halls that led toward the royal archives. The deeper she went, the colder the air became, heavy with dust, secrets, and time.At last, she reached the great wooden doors of the archive. They towered above her, their metal handles old and cool under her fingertips. She pushed gently, and with a soft groan, the door opened just wide enough for her to squeeze through.Inside, the space was vast and silent. Long shelves stretched toward the high ceiling, packed with old scrolls, ancient books, and yellowed parc

Serena stormed out of Elias’s chambers, slamming the door behind her. The cold night air hit her face, but it did nothing to cool the heat rising in her chest. Her heels clicked sharply against the stone path as she walked back toward her quarters, her fists clenched at her sides, her jaw tight. She was crying, she didn't care who see her, her eyes was burning not with tears of pain, but of fury. By the time she reached her chamber, she was shaking. She pushed the door open, stepped inside, and slammed it shut behind her. The silence in the room wrapped around her like a trap. She walked straight to the mirror and stared at herself, her cheeks were flushed, lips trembling, but not from heartbreak, from rage. Wiping beneath her eyes with the back of her hand, she leaned closer. “He will never love me,” she whispered bitterly, her voice raw. “Not like I love him.” Her gaze darkened. “And Elira… Elira gets Lucien’s attention without even trying.” She turned away fro

The door creaked open behind her.“Elira?” Her father’s voice broke the quiet. She turned, slowly, the journal still clutched in her hand. Her eyes were already glistening, but she held his gaze.“You’re home,” she said, her voice low.“I am. I saw the door open and....” He stopped when he saw the journal. His brows drew together. “Where did you find that?” he asked. Her grip on the journal tightened. “In my drawer, right where I left it.”Her father stepped further into the room, a cautious look on his face. “You shouldn’t be digging through the past, Elira.”“I wasn’t” she said “until I had to.”She held the journal out toward him, flipping to the page she had found. “I wrote this, didn’t I?”He looked down, read the words, then his shoulders sank.“Elira...”“Did you know about him?” she asked, cutting him off, her voice cracking “Did you know I loved someone named Eryndor?”Silence. Her father didn’t answer immediately. He looked down at the floor like the truth was there, gathe

The sun had already started to set when Elira found herself walking to Elias’s chambers, her heart beating faster with every step. She didn’t send word, she couldn’t. If she had paused too long to think, she might’ve talked herself out of it. The conversation she overheard that afternoon still echoed in her head. The name Eryndor. It didn’t just sound familiar, it had felt familiar. Like a thread pulling at something buried deep inside her. She stopped in front of his chamber door, took a deep breath in, exhaled and then she knocked. It opened quickly. “Elira,” Elias said, surprise softening his sharp features. “You didn’t send a message. Everything alright?” he asked “I needed to speak with you,” she said, her voice a little quieter than she have expected. “It’s important.” she added. He stepped aside, letting her in. The room was dimly lit, warm with the scent of burning cedar and the faintest trace of incense. Familiar. Comfortable. But tonight, none of it put her a

Serena stood in the dim corridor just outside Elias’s chambers. The torchlight painted long shadows on the stone walls. Her heart pounded, not exactly with fear, but something raw and urgent.Elias’s door opened silently. He stepped out, cloak drawn tight, his eyes flickered to Serena’s waiting form. “You requested to see me?” he asked, his voice low and composed. She nodded and stepped into the light. “Yes. I have information.”She said her voice was steady, but her fingers curled at her sides. She wasn’t just coming with secrets she was coming with desire, something she couldn’t deny even now.Elias studied her. “Go on.” Serena took a breath. “Lord Lucien is shifting his pieces. He sent new orders last night. I overheard a messenger talking about secret guard rotations and a weakness to exploit.” She paused, watching his face. “It means he knows more than we thought.”Elias’s jaw tightened. “Very good.” He turned and walked a few steps, then stopped. “Why bring this to me?” Ser
