Chapter 6

“Neah Cruise?!” Luca exclaimed, glancing at the woman in vintage clothing before him.

She was a famous Victoria's Secret model and the face of Dior at the Gala. She may have won awards for best body and face in all of the US, but she was also Daniel Cruise's twin sister, and as far as Luca knew, they had a tumultuous relationship in the worst sense of the word in college.

“So, how about it, Luca, or rather, fake Luca? Will you get down on your knees and be my slave? I can pay you even more than that bitch Lisa. She's just an ugly bitch, even with all the Botox, and she's still a nerd in my eyes!” the woman said, pulling his hand to her chest, down to her cleavage.

Luca realized how tempting this action was, but remembering his primary mission, he pulled the woman's face closer and stared deeply into her eyes. He stared into her eyes until her eyes rolled, and then he let go.

“You've never met me here, but don't ever forget my orders,” Luca told her. “If you want to kill Lisa, just kill her. Don’t hesitate to kill your brother, too. That would be great, because I need your fight.”

Neah stared at him before slowly nodding, and as Luca snapped his fingers, the woman walked away like Anthony. 

A blue light system appeared in front of Luca, and the tablet stated that Luca had reached his power limit, and that he would face consequences if he exceeded it.

“Shit…” Luca cursed when he saw that one of the consequences is losing the reward.

“Why not just kill the girl? It would be easy, and I could do it for you if you asked,” Ava said, and Luca turned to her. “Besides doing everything yourself, you could also ask for my help if you really needed it. That girl clearly liked you, so unless you liked her back, I understand why you didn’t just blow her up like the people in the lab.”

“Huh? No. Why would I blow her up if she could be useful in the future? She would be a great help to me,” Luca raised an eyebrow. "She doesn't like me because she always bothered me when we were students. Come on, let's go back to our rooms and focus. We don't have much time,"

Luca said. But this time Ava remained silent, and Luca sensed a change in her aura, like a darker one.

Arriving in the hall, Luca saw that the event had already begun, and on the stage  stand  the entire Sorella family, the Cruise, a priest, and of course, Daniel, along with Lisa and Asher. 

Luca saw a pile of hay in front of them with Luca's belongings on it.

Luca's eyes widened as he saw Grandma Sorella tossing her mother's necklace onto the haystack while holding a flaming torch, and Luca knew what this was about.

This was a ritual for the deceased where all their belongings were burned to rid the living family of bad luck. This "living family" would be burning Luca's mother's belongings, along with all her mementos and photographs too, which is Luca’s only treasure.

“Now, the main ritual of this event will officially begin. May the soul of this poor deceased rest in peace. In the name of father, son, and…” “STOP!!!”

Luca shouted as he stormed onto the stage. Grandma Sorella’s eyes widened when she saw Luca alive, and everyone in the room looked shocked except Ava.

“Shouldn’t he…” “Yes, I’m alive, and what you’re seeing is me, not a ghost. I’m Luca Kane, the former son in law of this family.”

Luca glanced at the guest who had just spoken.

“I know you’re all probably wondering how I survived, but that’s not important right now. I don’t care about Lisa’s remarriage, the house, or anything else, I only care about my mother’s belongings,” Luca said, before glancing at Grandma Sorella, who was still holding the flaming torch.

“Don’t burn my mother’s things, just leave them alone,” Luca said, turning to Lisa. "You asked me for help before, remember? You didn't want your father's collection to burn at this event, so I snuck in and collected it for you. Can't you repay me for that?"

Luca asked, and the Diamond Hall fell silent.

Ava moved her hand as if to slaughter them, but Luca quickly held it back.

Asher was watching Luca from Lisa's embrace, and Luca didn't want his son to see the cruelty or even the bloodshed he had seen in his childhood. Just as Luca thought the silence was agreement, a sharp laugh suddenly erupted throughout the hall.

The laughter started from Daniel's mouth first, before being followed by the rest of the guests. Even Luca's own son laughed as if Luca was telling a joke.

"What's so funny—"

"Oh, really, Luca? Do you still dare to question it, or should I say, are you a fake Luca?" Daniel chuckled. "Luca, the Sorella family's son in law died in a gas attack, which is why we're going to burn his belongings."

"I expected an impostor to come here, because they'll do anything to steal Sorella's fortune. And even if you really are the real Luca, then your presence here also acknowledges that you've always been a liar, doesn't it? Faking your own death for love and money?" Daniel looked at Lisa and pulled her closer by the waist.

Daniel also took the torch from Grandma Sorella and handed it to Lisa. “Honey, even if he were the real Luca, you still wouldn’t be easy on him, would you? You said it yourself how annoying and a waste of time he is. Besides, don’t we have an heir to focus on? You should be focusing on the child in your womb, because Asher Cruise will soon meet his biological sibling.”

“Oh, yeah, I also forgot to tell Luca that that idiot son in law never actually had a child with Lisa. Lisa did have a child with him once, but she was so disgusted that she aborted it.”

“I planted my own seed here, and now that he’s dead, I decided to plant another one so Asher can have another sibling. Poor Luca, dead but without any children. But at least he still has time to play house with my son, right?” Daniel laughed as he patted Lisa’s flat stomach, and Luca remained silent.

Ava watched as the ground began to shake and Luca’s eyes turned red before finally black.

Luca's heart was pounding, just like it had felt earlier in the lab.
