Chapter 7

A bright blue tablet shimmered in front of Luca, and the boy's question mark transformed into a party pooper symbol.

Daniel placed a torch in Asher's hand, guiding the boy to throw the flame onto the haystack and just as Luca was about to lunge forward, Ava caught his arm.

“Stop, Luca! You'll die! Don't overuse your powers, remember the rules!” Ava warned, but the fire had already reached the hay.

The flames spread rapidly, incinerating Luca's mother's clothes, the photos, and even her necklace. A cracking sound came from the pendant, and Luca's eyes darkened.

The aura around Luca immediately darkened as objects around him began to float and spin, and Ava immediately went on guard.

She had never detected such dangerous power from a player before, and this power had even corrupted the system.

“W—What's going on?! Why are our things flying??” Daniel frowned as the torch floated back toward them and landed on the stage. “What the hell—The stage is on fire! How could this happen?! Lisa—”

Daniel and Lisa’s eyes turned to Luca, who just stood there with a blank expression.

Luca didn’t break his gaze as he stepped forward, and the ground he had just stepped on immediately cracked. The crack grew larger and wider as Luca reached the stage, and as Luca raised his hand toward Daniel, a terrified cry could be heard.

Asher cried loudly in Daniel’s arms, and Luca’s eyes instantly returned to their usual brown color.

Sirens sounded from outside as police burst in, with security officers behind them and Ava pulling Luca aside.

“We just received a report of corporate corruption and several money laundering attempts,” the officer said. “Daniel Cruise, you are under arrest because you are the prime suspect in the money laundering case involving Cruise’s businesses, and Lisa Sorella, we would like to question you about how you acquired all your wealth.”

“This house is now being confiscated by the government because we noticed something suspicious with the payment system, and why don’t we take this matter further to the police station? We could even take it to court because we also need to question all of Sorella’s family members about how they suddenly rose in rank.”

The officers then arrested the entire Cruise family, along with Sorella’s family, and even Grandma Sorella was handcuffed.

The police found Luca’s mother’s real necklace in Grandma Sorella’s pocket, and Luca just stared as they handed it to him.

Luca sighed when he realized that the grandmother in law had only burned the imitation necklace.

“But your mother’s other possessions, the photos, were all burned,” Ava said. “Aren’t you still angry with them?”

“Not as long as this necklace is safe. It was the last thing my mother held when she died, and she loved it very much,” Luca said, stuffing it into his pants pocket. “The trial is considered over, right? The Northwest Territories are under control, and I’ve received my reward.”

“Yeah, of course, it’s all over,” Ava said.

But Luca knew that this Northwest affair wouldn’t end there, as he had just used his authority, and shortly after, his phone vibrated.

Luca saw that it was his father, and he wondered if he should answer it.

“Someone’s calling you, and you’re not going to answer?” Ava tilted her head to the side. “Or are you the type of person who just disappears, which young women call a ‘red flag’?”

“Well…”

A blue tablet appeared in front of Luca.

This time, it wasn’t just one screen, but two, and one of them was a punishment. Because Luca had just overused his superpowers, he would have to face the consequences: he would have to participate in the next game.

The next challenge contained only one word: “dad,” and Luca swallowed hard, seeing the prize money.

“$1,000,000? Seriously?” Luca turned to Ava. “I can get this just by accepting this challenge?”

“Yes, seriously, and for your information, the next challenge and the ones that follow will always come with a cash prize,” Ava smiled. “But keep in mind that once you decide to participate, you will be considered to have accepted this system's offer to increase your power, as the trial period has ended. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Luca paused as he considered this decision. 

$1,000,000 was certainly a lot of money. Luca might have a strained relationship with his father, but were their problems worth the money?

Luca could become rich instantly, and it wasn't like he could live a normal life after all that.

Nothing bad would happen as long as Luca followed the system, right?

“Okay, I accept the challenge. This will make me have more money, right?” Luca pressed the join 

system button, and a trumpet sound rang. “So, what's my next step?”

“Okay, first of all, of course, you take your call and follow the instructions,” Ava said.

Luca's phone suddenly rang again, and Ava nodded at it.

“However, remember that this time, you really shouldn't use your superpowers too often, Luca, because it will be dangerous. You're lucky this was just an experiment, and next time the consequences will be very severe. Consequences so severe that you'll wish you'd never stepped foot in them.”

Luca nodded in response to Ava's warning, and taking a deep breath, he pressed the green call button.

A deep, wise, raspy voice came from the other end of the line, and Luca prepared his mental.

“Hello?”

“Hi, Luca. It's been a while since I've heard from you, and the first thing I know you're alive is because you're using Kane's authority?”

“Well, about that, Dad, I…”

“That doesn't matter now because I need you to come back here immediately and take over my kingdom.”

“You win. All my other sons are useless, and you're the only one who inherits my blood and brains. Just come to the Kane family home and finish whatever you need to now, because starting tomorrow, you'll be introduced as Kane's rightful heir. You'll rule over all of Kane's underground drug labs, which have thousands of branches worldwide.”
