ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Alex rode away from the hotel with his hands tight on the handlebars. The wind hit his face hard, but it did not cool the fire in his chest. He kept seeing Sarah kissing that man. He kept hearing her call him stupid and poor. Every word played again and again in his head.

He had taken so much from her family for a whole year. They treated him like a servant. They made him clean, carry bags, and stay quiet. He never fought back. He smiled when they laughed at him. He thought it was just part of the test. But this was different. This was his wife choosing another man and then blaming him.

Alex stopped at the delivery office first. He signed the papers for the package he had “delivered” and left the motorbike in its usual spot. The bike belonged to the company. He did not need it anymore. Then he walked the rest of the way home.

When he opened the door, Sarah was already there. She must have left the hotel right after him. She sat on the couch with her phone, scrolling and smiling like nothing had happened.

Alex went straight to the bedroom. He pulled out his old traveling bag and started throwing clothes inside. Socks. Shirts. The few things that were really his.

Sarah walked in and leaned against the doorframe. She laughed.

“Where do you think you’re going?” she asked.

“Somewhere people treat me like a real person,” Alex said without looking up.

Sarah rolled her eyes. “You? You’re nothing without me. You’ll end up on the street, hungry and alone. Just wait.”

Alex kept packing. He zipped the bag shut and stood up.

Sarah stepped closer, still smiling that mean smile. “Listen carefully. You’re my husband. That means you stay and put up with whatever I do. If you walk out, you know what my family will do to you.”

Alex finally turned and looked at her. His face was calm, but his eyes were cold.

“I need you to sign the divorce papers tomorrow,” he said.

Sarah’s smile dropped for a second. Then she laughed again, louder this time.

“Divorce? Are you joking? Without me and my family you’ll die like a chicken. Why would I ever sign that?”

Alex’s voice stayed steady. “I’ve had enough. Years of insults. Years of being treated like dirt. And now this. You cheated and you’re not even sorry. You even helped that man throw me out. I’m done.”

Sarah crossed her arms. “Funny. You think you can just leave this nice life? You only have it because of me. You were a poor nobody when I married you. You should be thanking me every day.”

“I don’t care anymore,” Alex said. “Just sign the papers tomorrow. That’s all I want.”

Sarah tilted her head. “I can’t sign by myself. I have to ask my family first. Especially Grandma. Tomorrow is her birthday, remember? You have to come. We can talk about the divorce then. If she agrees, maybe I’ll sign.”

Alex shook his head. “I don’t care about her birthday. Sign the papers or don’t. When you’re ready, you’ll know how to find me.”

He walked past her toward the door.

“Wait,” Sarah called.

Alex stopped but did not turn around.

“You’re making a huge mistake,” she said. “My whole family will turn against you. You won’t survive it.”

Alex looked back once. “Who cares about your family?”

He walked out and closed the door behind him.

Sarah stood by the window and watched him leave. She could not understand where this new courage came from. In her mind he was still the quiet, poor boy who needed her. She shrugged and turned away. She was sure he would come crawling back soon.

Outside, Alex walked to a quiet street corner. He took out his phone and dialed a number.

“Meet me at the delivery office parking lot,” he said, then hung up.

A few minutes later a black Mercedes pulled up beside him. The windows were dark. The back door opened. Alex climbed in without a word and shut the door. The car drove away smoothly into the night.

Inside the car Alex leaned his head back and closed his eyes. The anger was still there, but under it something else was growing. A quiet, cold feeling. He had played the poor husband long enough. The test was over. Sarah and her family had shown their true faces. Now it was his turn.

He thought about the years of pretending. The fake smiles. The nights he cleaned the house while they partied. The way Sarah looked at him like he was less than nothing. All of it had been for a reason. His real family had wanted to see who stayed when the money disappeared. Sarah had failed in the worst way possible.

Tomorrow was Grandma’s big birthday party. The whole family would be there. Rich friends. Important people. They would all look at him the same way they always did — like a problem that needed fixing. Alex almost smiled. Let them. He would walk into that house one last time. He would let them say whatever they wanted. And then he would leave for good.

But first he needed to make sure the divorce happened. No more ties. No more chances for them to hold anything over him. Once the papers were signed, the real game could start.

The car turned onto a quiet road lined with tall trees. Alex opened his eyes and stared out the window. Somewhere far behind him, Sarah was probably already telling her family what a fool he was. Somewhere ahead, people who knew the real him were waiting.

He had lost a wife today. He had lost a fake life. But he had also gained something bigger — freedom. And freedom, he was starting to understand, was worth more than any rich family’s house.

The Mercedes kept moving through the dark streets. Alex sat in silence, already planning the next steps. Tomorrow would be loud. Tomorrow would be messy. Tomorrow the Anderson family would learn that the quiet delivery boy they had kicked around for a year was not as small as they thought.

He did not know yet how hard the fight would get. He only knew he was ready for it.

  • THE QUIET AFTER THE STORM

The front door closed behind Alexander Brooks and the two men in dark suits. For a few seconds no one inside the Anderson house moved. The birthday balloons still floated near the ceiling. The cake still sat on the table with candles that had never been lit. The golden ruler lay on the floor where it had fallen earlier. Then the silence broke.Sarah’s legs gave out. She sat down hard on the nearest chair and stared at the empty doorway. Her mouth opened and closed but no words came out. Grandma stayed in her big chair, hands shaking. The color had left her face completely.“Brooks,” Ethan whispered from the floor. He said the name again like it might change if he repeated it enough times. “Alexander Brooks… the real one?”Williams took a step back and almost tripped over a chair. His confident look was gone. He looked at Sarah, then at Grandma, then at the door again.“That cannot be true,” he said, but his voice was weak. “A delivery boy cannot be the Brooks heir. Someone is playing

  • THE NAME NO ONE EXPECTED

The room stayed quiet for a long time after Ethan’s secrets spilled out. No one knew what to say. Ethan sat on the floor with red eyes and shaking hands. The rich guests who had clapped for him earlier now looked away. Sarah’s face had gone pale. Grandma’s hands gripped the arms of her chair so hard her knuckles turned white.Alex did not move. He just stood in the middle of everyone and waited. One of the older guests finally spoke. “How does a delivery boy know all that about a company manager? That information is private.”Another man nodded. “Yes. Bank accounts. Fake papers. Secret money. How do you know these things, young man?”Alex looked at them one by one. His voice stayed calm and steady.“I pay attention,” he said. “That’s all.”Grandma stood up slowly. Her voice was sharp again, but there was something new in it now — worry mixed with anger.“You will answer properly,” she said. “You are not leaving this house until you explain yourself. Who told you these things? Who are

  • ONLY IF THEY KNEW

The truth was out. Ethan had lied to everyone about his job. The same people who had congratulated him now looked angry and embarrassed.Grandma turned on him first.“Ethan,” she said, using his real name for the first time that night. “You stood here and lied to all of us. You made us look like fools. Apologize.”Ethan’s face went dark. Being called by his first name already felt like a fall. A minute ago he was “Mr. Manager.” Now he was just Ethan. One of the guests spoke up. “You should get on your knees. After what you did, a simple sorry is not enough.”Ethan looked at Grandma. She did not stop the idea. He felt his last bit of pride break. He dropped to his knees in front of everyone.“I’m sorry,” he said, voice low. “I was ashamed to tell you I lost the job. I didn’t want to look weak. Please forgive me.”Grandma nodded once. “Apology accepted. Stand up.”Ethan stood. His legs felt weak.Alex let out a small laugh. Everyone turned to him.“A while ago you called me a loser,” Al

  • THE PHONE CALL

Ethan’s phone rang loud in the quiet room. Everyone looked at him. He smiled in a shy way and took the phone from his jacket. When he saw the name on the screen he smiled bigger. It was the caretaker of the delivery company — the man who decided if managers kept their jobs.Ethan answered quickly. “Hello, good day sir.”The voice on the other end was rough. “Good day. I have news for you.”“I’m listening, sir.”“I’m sorry, but we are not renewing your contract. You are no longer the manager starting now. Go collect your things from the office.”The line went dead.Ethan’s face changed for a second. Then he forced a big smile so no one would notice. He could not let the guests, especially Alex, know he had just been fired. If they found out he would lose all respect. Grandma would stop liking him. He would become a nobody. He put the phone away and spoke in a loud, happy voice.“My contract has been extended. I am still the manager. In fact, they gave me a bigger position. I will handl

  • THE FAKE BOYFRIEND

“No. I am not accepting your offer. Never.”Alex’s words hung in the air. The whole room froze. The woman who had offered him the job stared at him like she could not believe her ears. Her name was Victoria. She was used to people saying yes to her. No one had ever turned her down like this, especially not a man who looked like he had nothing.Sarah’s mouth was open. Grandma’s eyes were wide, but a small smile pulled at her lips. She was happy Alex had refused. It made him look even more stupid in front of everyone.Victoria forced a smile so she would not look weak. “Fine. Since this man rejected my kind offer, I stand with Mrs. Anderson. No company I control will ever hire him.”Grandma nodded, pleased.Alex suddenly laughed. It was a short, sharp laugh that made people jump.Victoria frowned. “What is funny?”Alex stopped laughing and looked at her. “How can you speak for all those companies when you are only a vice CEO?”Victoria blinked. She had not expected him to know that. She

  • THE JOB OFFER

After Grandma finished speaking, the family cheered again. The rich guests who had been watching the whole drama now saw their chance. These were not normal people. They were company owners, managers, and even some billionaires. Grandma had invited them so they would want to work with the Anderson family. One man stood up first. He cleared his throat and spoke in a loud, polite voice.“Mrs. Anderson, it is an honor to be at your party. I agree with your decision completely. That young man does not belong in a good family like yours. I promise he will never get a job in any of my companies. Not even as a cleaner.”He sat down. Grandma smiled and nodded.Another man stood. “I also promise. No job for him in my firm. I will tell all my friends the same thing.”One by one the guests stood and made the same promise. No driving job. No cleaning job. No messenger job. Nothing. They all wanted Grandma to like them. They all wanted her money and her support for their businesses.Alex stood off
