“Great,” Oliver answered with a smile before ending the call.

The others blinked, not expecting Oliver to pull out that kind of tactic.

Ray was the first to speak. “You… you bluffed?”

Oliver turned his eyes back to them, his gaze sharp and cold as steel.

“No. I meant it when I said he deserved to die,” Oliver said. “But I needed to know where you all stood. I need to know if you were still able to keep your morals despite all the missions we had gone through.”

Samuel’s voice was hoarse when he asked, “And if we agreed to kill him?”

“Then I’d be worried,” Oliver said quietly, his tone sincere. “We’re not killers for convenience. We’re not them. Not Dominic. Not Aidan. Not even all those people working on the top.”

The silence was heavier now, but this time, it was filled with understanding.
