Adrian had planned the perfect anniversary dinner—Vanessa’s favorite dishes, a warm, quiet home, and even time for their daughter, Lily. But as the clock neared midnight, his excitement turned into a hollow silence. Vanessa stumbled in, drunk and careless, not even noticing the effort he had put in. She tossed her purse on the couch, waved him off, and mocked his calls. “Can you stop calling me all the time? I was at a banquet, making connections, actually contributing to this family,” she snapped, her words dripping with contempt. Adrian stayed calm, trying to remind her of the night’s significance. But Vanessa scoffed, mocking the anniversary, humiliating him further. “Everyone asked why I didn’t bring a male companion. I wanted to sink into the floor. Imagine saying, ‘My husband is home babysitting a kid.’ I’d rather say my goldfish ran away!” She continued, bitter and harsh: “If I didn’t get pregnant, I’d never have married you. Lily slows me down, and you… you slow me down the most.” Adrian, silent but composed, finally spoke: “Let’s get a divorce.” Vanessa erupted in rage, smashing the dinner he had prepared, shattering more than just plates. In that moment, Adrian walked away, leaving the chaos behind.
