Setting Off

Trapp was dumbfounded...

He could not believe the ridiculous reason why he was chosen for this mission. Sure, it was true that he was handsome and attractive, and it was easy for him to gain the affection of the opposite sex through these points.

There were many instances where Trapp had been able to complete an assignment through his good looks alone.

Don't let anybody else tell you differently... having good looks alone is half the key to success.

At times, good looks are what you need to open doors to various opportunities in your life.

Don't believe it?

Why don't you ask those idols that are famous in the entire universe? What those people sell are their good looks.

Not their skill, not their talent... but the sheer pleasure of looking at their beautiful faces and figures.

That is the real money maker!

Still, although Trapp understood this fact, he did not feel it was justified enough to send him on an assignment he had no experience in. If he were told that they needed his looks to get close to the girl so that Trapp could assassinate her, then he would understand that. But how did having good looks help in protecting her?

Trapp stared at both his mothers... Eunice and Eudora.

He kept having this feeling that there was a conspiracy going on here and that there was more to this mission than what the two women were telling him.

Still, it did not help his situation, no matter what he thought.

Since the mission was already assigned... Trapp could only grit his teeth and accept it.

Sigh!

Sighing in resignation, Trapp leaned back in his seat and asked, "Is that all I need to know regarding this mission."

Eunice answered, "That's basically it. There's only one other thing you need to take special note of."

"This time, the client has requested that this mission be carried out secretly, which means you cannot expose the fact that you are protecting the target. Everything has to be done incognito and kept under wraps. That is why you will be going in with a special identity."

"Because of the ongoing border war, you will assume the identity of a wounded soldier, which will give you access to the target. The target is currently serving as a medical relief worker under the banner of the Avalon family in this war. What you need to do is make contact with the target and stick close to her."

"You can use whatever means it will take to accomplish this task and stay close by her side at all times as long as you do not make it known that she is currently being protected by you."

"Are you clear on everything I have said?"

Trapp listened to Eunice as she explain the further details of his assignment. Eventually, there was a point in Eunice's explanation that caused Trapp's eyes to gleam.

When Eunice asked if he had understood her words, Trapp immediately sat up and looked straight at her.

He asked, "Let me get something straight first. You mean that I am free to take whatever action is necessary to stay close to her side as long as I do not blow my cover, right?"

Hearing this, the eyes of all the ladies at the table shone.

They knew what was going through Trapp's mind, but none of them said anything. It could be said that it was what they were expecting.

Eunice simply answered, "That's right."

Trapp did not seem assured, so he asked once again, "Are you sure... you mean anything right?"

This time there was a crease on Eunice's smooth forehead, and she seemed annoyed.

Saying in a curt tone of voice, Dame Eunice clarified.

"I mean what I said. As long as you do not blow your cover and certain boundaries aren't crossed, you are free to take whatever action is necessary to accomplish your task even if it is inappropriate."

"You will not be held accountable for anything."

"Sm I clear now?"

"Crystal!" Trapp smiled as he replied.

He was very relaxed at this moment as he thought about the mission he was assigned.

Thinking to himself, Trapp said, 'It seems like this mission may not be so bad after all!'

...

finally, the mission briefing was coming to an end.

Before Eunice dismissed Trapp, she said, "You will be setting off immediately for the mission location. There will be a cargo carrier waiting for you at the usual place to take you to your destination. At the place you're taken to, you'll be given the necessary documentation which you will use to assume your new identity. After that, you will be delivered secretly to one of the zones of war that the target is in charge of."

"I do not need to tell you what you need to do from there, right?"

"That's ok... I know the ropes," Trapp replied.

"This isn't my first rodeo!"

"After I arrive at the battlefield, I naturally have to fight hard before being seriously injured. From there, I will ensure that I am treated by the target. That will be my window to come in contact with the target."

"With my skill, it shouldn't be hard to do all this so you don't have to worry about anything."

After saying his piece, Trapp stood up from his chair.

"If that is all, I will be heading off to get ready."

"There are a lot of things I need to take care of before I set off. Some accounts to settle if you know what I mean."

Trapp winked as he got ready to move.

"Well, then ladies... it's been a pleasure. No need to see me off, I know the way."

"Della dear... come along."

"We have a lot of things to do."

With that, Trapp started making his way towards the door.

Della also stood up and gave a solemn bow towards Eunice and Eudora, but was suddenly stopped when she heard Eudora speak.

"There's no need to get up Della dear... stay, there are other things you are needed for."

"As for you, my boy, this time around, Della won't be accompanying you."

"You are all on your own."

Trapp paused for a moment when he heard this.

The feeling that he was being conspired again became even stronger at that moment.

This would be the first time Trapp was taking a mission without Della being there to assist him. Coupled with this being his first protection mission, when he had only ever done assassination missions before. Who would believe Trapp if he said that this wasn't done deliberately.

It was most likely that Eunice and Eudora had other plans for sending him on this specific mission. Trapp just didn't know what their endgame was.

Feeling resigned to his fate, Trapp said nothing as he continued walking towards the exit of the garden.

"Since that's the case, I guess there is nothing I can say about it."

"Take care then."

"Until next time... mom!"

With that said, Trapp left.

Seeing Trapp walking out of the garden on top of the spindle tower... his back seemed a little bit lonely. Especially after referring to Eunice as mom.

...

Trapp left with the only ones remaining being his mother Eunice, her nanny Eudora and Trapp's assistant Della.

The three of them sat at the same table without a word being said between either of them.

Finally, unable to bear the constant silence, Della was the first to speak up as she asked a question.

"Excuse me, my lady, but I have a question to ask. May I be permitted to speak?"

Eunice did not answer Della immediately.

Instead, she first picked up her cup of tea that had already gone cold.

Seeing this, Eudora quickly lifted the pot of tea to refill Eunice's cup.

Taking a light sip, Eunice savored the flavor of the tea for a short while before putting her cup down and turning to Della.

"What is it, child?"

With her head lowered, Della asked, "My lady, why is it that I was not allowed to accompany to young master and assist him?"

"We have always done our missions together and we work well together. For a mission like this which the young master has to experience, it would be much easier if the two of us work together to complete it, would it not? Why then I am being asked to stay behind?"

The garden once again fell into silence until finally Eunice spoke up and answered Della's question.

"Child, what you say is true. It will indeed be much easier for my son to complete the mission with you by his side. Unfortunately, this mission is not only about protecting the target but involves things that are hidden much deeper below the surface."

"I am reluctant to say this, but for this mission, you cannot help him at all. He is the only one that can complete this task and he has to do it alone. That is the only way he can do what needs to be done without worrying about anything else."

"As for you child, there is naturally something I need you to do for me."

"Just like my son, this is something only you can do, and it also needs to be done alone."

"Can you do this for me?"

Immediately after hearing this, Della hurriedly stood up and bowed.

With a loud voice, Della declared, "It is my honor to serve you, my lady!"
