Kevin

“Hmm…”

The morning sun rays lightly caressed my skin as I lay on my bed, thinking about the truth I learned about my parents yesterday.

I had my suspicions but it really hit differently when I got to hear it from someone who was hailed as more potent than the Demon King himself. But there were still many things about my parents that were under the veil. Lan refused to talk about them so I had no way to know other than wait for Lan to open up.

…it was frustrating but there was nothing I could do.

“...”

I wanted to get up but the bed seemed to hug even tighter the more I tried to resist. I was feeling strangely lethargic.

“But there are classes today…”

The first day of high school, in other words, is a new chapter of a kid’s life. And the first impression was the most crucial thing that decided how the ‘new chapter’ was going to be. But did I really need that? I didn’t need to lay an impressive impression on others. In fact, I came to high school only because I was curious about how it felt like to be in high school, the dream of most kids in this world. I would be gone from here in a year or two. Therefore, I could skip classes today, and given my appearance, it wouldn’t even matter if I skipped classes or not.

“After all, I would be alienated anyway…”

<You’ve got it so rough…>

“Shut up.”

But on second thought, let’s just go. I had nothing to do anyway (since I could not sneak out of the school even if I wanted to because that Headmaster was targeting me).

“Hmm… so bothersome.”

I would rather search for the secrets on the first floor.

Ding-dong—

The bell rang out loudly, singing the start of the school hours, and with that came the raging wave of students, their footsteps crashing down on the school premises like a tsunami.

It was evident that they were overflowing with excitement. The first day, first classes, new people, and new stories of joyful youth. How could one resist the excitement and fantasies that kept them on cloud nine?

Except for one guy.

“Hmm…”

White hair that flowed down to his shoulders tied in a ponytail and a mask with strange patterns that seemed to be saying something, but no one could put a finger on it.

This boy blended with the environment so well that someone could bump into him and not know. He seemed to be aloof from his surroundings and contemplating something very deep.

‘I cannot understand him…’

Not only that but he was also being alienated by others, most probably because of his striking resemblance to the culprit of the massacre three years back, the Demon. But if he was the real deal, the school authorities wouldn’t even let him in. instead, they would try to annihilate him then and there. But this boy being here and roaming around without any care in the world was more than enough proof of his innocence.

‘But… I cannot explain what I am feeling right now…’

Was it intuition? Or was it an attraction?

‘No, it’s definitely not an attraction. I cannot be attracted to the same gender.’

So what was it?

Only one way to find out.

“Hey.”

The white-haired boy turned around and faced the voice who called him.

“Just what are you?”

The straightforward question was laced with pure curiosity that would vanish instantly the moment it was answered.

“...what?”

But the white-haired was rather dumbstruck as if he found the question to be idiotic.

“Answer me.”

It was not a request, nor an appeal, but an order.

“And why should I?”

But the boy didn’t care about that and returned the contemptuous tone as a counter.

“...don’t you know who I am?”

‘Was this guy living under a rock all this time?’

“Why, your mom never told you who you were?” The white-haired boy sneered.

“This fucker…!”

His teeth were clenched and before he knew it, he was giving a deathly glare.

‘This asshole dare to insult me? Kevin Heart? The first heir to the Heart family?!’

“What a kid… falling for such an obvious provocation.”

“Haha, you are screwed, fucker.”

***

‘Yeah, right. I am screwed. Whatever.’

It was becoming bothersome talking with this shitty brat.

Of course, I knew who he was. I could only be called crazy if I didn’t recognize that cheesy blonde hair and arrogant tone.

The Heart family. If I was going to get my revenge on that fuckin’ bitch, I had to inevitably deal with this atrocious family. They were one of the seven greatest families which Rena favored, probably because they were filled with greed and malicious traits which were easy to make use of. And what luck! The first heir of the Heart family, Kevin Heart was standing right in front of me, ordering me around with a stupid question that couldn’t be made sense of even if I tried for a whole day.

This was a good opportunity to tick him off and have a hostile relationship with him, the very first step to breaking the first heir of the Heart family. My plans could continue after that.

I watched him leisurely stomp away angrily.

“Heh…”

These kinds of people were very easy to manipulate. Maybe I should not break him first.

‘If I remember it right… he’s in an incest relationship with his little sister.’

<How the hell do you know that?>

‘I’ve had three years of free time, you know?’

<...what are you up to?>

An ominous thought emerged in me. It was so evil that it felt awesome just by thinking of it.

“Mhm…”

I found it. The perfect way to break him and his family mercilessly.

“Kekeke…”

It was perfect.
