Chapter 2: Enlighten

Kent sat on the railing, looking into the distance. It was almost three o'clock in the morning, the road was extremely deserted with no sign of any cars or pedestrians. Kent was alone, sitting on the railing of the bridge, looking at the river and the tall buildings in the distance.

Kent looked into the distance, at the tall buildings still lit up as day. In a place that once held Kent's dream, Kent tried to work hard, hoping that one day he could blend in with the crowd in that crowded city as one.

Busy but happy, have a place to go to work every day, a place to go home, a place to meet friends, a place to have fun.

But all of that is gone now. Kent had only a little time left to live, illusions and good dreams were completely gone.

The person Kent loves has also betrayed him, the job he most wants is also destroyed, his life is not much. Everything, everything is lost, even hope is finally gone.

"Hey! Want to jump down there?”

Suddenly a loud voice came, Kent turned his head, he saw a beggar about 50 years old, with an extremely dirty and ragged appearance approaching.

He wore an old sheepskin coat, so dirty even that the one that had been gray was now almost black. Inside was a pair of jeans and an old shirt that seemed to have been taken from a trash can.

The beggar approached Kent, not wanting to stop him or anything, but just stood beside him, leaning against the railing, looking towards an urban area like Kent.

“Boy, do you know what we regret most at the end of our lives?”

Kent froze, then replied, "The things we did wrong, the mistakes we made in our lives?"

“Hahaha…” The beggar laughed and said: “No, it's not.”

The beggar looked at Kent for a moment, then continued: "Looking at you young, is it true that death is due to love or work?"

Kent nodded at that, then shook his head again: "It's both a love story, it's a job, and it's a life issue." says Kent.

The beggar heard this and continued: "Boy, you are still very young, you can rebuild your life. Listen to me, there are a lot of better girls out there, if we fall in love we just need to find another girl. If the job fails, we can find another job to do.”

Kent heard that then laughed and shook his head, refusing to comment.

The beggar, seeing Kent's bitter smile, continued to ask, "So what's your problem? After all, you will kill yourself, right, say it a little to comfort, then die with no regrets."

Kent heard that and thought again, feeling that the beggar was right. Anyway, Kent has suffered from loneliness for a long time, no one has ever listened to his feelings, Ann Reed has never heard him confide.

Thinking of this, Kent feels funny, the person he thought was very important had never heard him confide, but now a person he did not know would listen to the last words of his life. That's ironic indeed.

But Kent did not despise this beggar in the slightest, on the contrary, he now appreciates the moment this beggar is listening to his confidant.

Kent sighed and then said: "I have a girlfriend, she and I live together but I have never slept with her."

"OH! You must have a lot of respect for her, right?" The beggar said.

Kent heard that and was a little moved, usually people who heard it said that Kent was an idiot. Fat offered to the cat's mouth but also criticized. Either say that Kent is not a man, weak in physiology, or use harsh words to criticize him.

However, this beggar did not say those words but said exactly what Kent thought.

"Right." Kent said touchingly: "I respect her very much, I consider her like family but she treats me like that."

"How? Did she betray you?" The beggar asked.

Kent nodded and replied: "Yes, she slept with the manager of my company, that manager didn't hide this, on the contrary, the manager bragged about it, afraid that I wouldn't know about it. .”

“So… is that manager you mentioned affecting your work?”

Hearing the beggar's question, Kent honestly replied: "Yes." Kent nodded and said: "That manager has a very high position, you can say he can fire me or press me as much as I want."

"OH!" The beggar was a little surprised and asked: "How does one employee in the company have so much power?"

Kent laughed and said: "No ordinary employee, but the CEO's son can."

"Therefore, it is." The beggar nodded to show that he understood everything. Then the beggar continued, "So both your work and your love are over?"

Kent bowed his head in silence for a moment, then nodded in affirmation, then shook his head again: "It's not really the end, I have many other ways to make money, just don't tell people, even if I do. If I get fired, I can still live comfortably. It's just… disappointing, I don't understand why these things are happening to me, why should I be the one to put up with this?”

"Why not?" The beggar asked Kent: “If not you, then who? He hopes someone else will bear this suffering for him.”

Kent heard that startled, then pondered thoughtfully. That's right, if it's not me, there will be another person like that, why is that person not me?

The beggar laughed and said, “Listen, young man. There is nothing to be sad about, even if your lover leaves or has an affair with someone else, there is nothing to be sad about. It's like spending money to experience living with a girl. Tell me how to make him understand. That's right, service. You finish using the service, you let her go, there's nothing to be sad about."

“In addition, you have other sources of income, in other words, it is okay if you have a job or not, so even losing your job is not a bad thing. You can use this free time to do the things you like, right?”

Kent heard that and immediately thought again, just like the beggar said. Just change the way of thinking a little and feel that what he experienced is normal, very normal, so why am I sad?

"But..." said Kent sadly, "I don't have much longer to live."

"So what then?" The beggar suddenly asked.

"Huh?" Kent was also surprised by the beggar's question.

He continued, "Boy, was it true that I asked you earlier what people regret most at the end of their lives?"

Kent nodded.

The beggar said: “The biggest regret people have is not the mistakes they made in their lives, nor the things they did wrong, but the things they didn't do. The aspirations, dreams, desires that they have thought about but have not been able to do. At the end of life there are things that make us regret.”

“It doesn't matter how long you live, what matters is what you did while you were alive. There is a philosophy like this: Things that happen are certain things that must happen, even if you run away, you can't escape. So why not accept it cheerfully.”

The beggar patted Kent's shoulder and continued, "Boy, there's so much more to enjoy in this world. Try to do the things you've always dreamed of, don't let time go to waste."

After saying this, the beggar turned to leave, and when he left, he did not forget to wave goodbye to Kent.

Kent listened as if enlightened, he thought over every word that the beggar said earlier.

That's right, instead of sitting here bored looking for death, why not do things that you've never done before. Why not fulfill your dream now.

If not now, when will we wait?

Kent smiled, the happy smile of someone who had enlightened the way forward. Kent climbed down the railing, followed the path the beggar had taken to thank him.

But no matter how he ran, he couldn't see him here, there was no one around but him.

Kent undauntedly shouted: “Beggar, thank you!”

In a dark corner of the city, a beggar walking leisurely, hearing Kent's voice echoing, he smiled and whispered: "Boy, try to enjoy life, don't be like me. At the end of my life, I regret my dreams and loss when I was young."

The beggar looked up at the lights of the tall buildings in the distance, his face a little sad.

Suddenly at this time, a black car rushed to stop in front of the beggar. After that, two people dressed in black got out of the car, bowed their heads to the beggar and respectfully said: "Chairman!"

The beggar smiled and nodded: "If you are found again, you are also fast."

"President, please return."

The beggar nodded and then sat in the other black luxury car, at that time, he did not forget to instruct the two men in black: "Going forward about a hundred meters, there is a young man, I want to know everything. that young man's information set."

“Yes, sir.”

The beggar looked towards the direction he had met with Kent and smiled and said: "Young man, I hope you can fulfill your dream."
