Chapter 01

Throwing the unconscious intruder into a crudely made prison cell, the disciples quickly left to resume whatever ritual they had gathered for.

The tunnel went dark as the light from their simple oil lamps followed them and since they never bothered to look behind no one noticed the yellow eyes gleaming in the darkness of the cell.

“How cruel…” the shadow murmured. “They didn’t have to be so rough…”

The shadow extended forming what vaguely resembled a hand. Once the darkness settled, a faint green light began emitting from it gradually enveloping the restrained young man. A few seconds later the bruises from the beating he got slowly faded.

Though he wanted to heal him back to health, the faint sound of footsteps heading in their direction disrupted his concentration causing the process.

The shadow closed his eyes and slowly retreated to a corner waiting as the steps drew closer to them.

The disciples, the lowest rank as indicated by their black uniforms, were currently busy with rituals so they should all be gathered in front of their high priests. There is still time before they receive permission to disperse so it was unusual for one of them to be moving around. Did he receive an order to check on the intruder?

“I know you’re there. Come out.”

As he spoke, the disciple removed his hood revealing a his face. Receiving no response, he reached out for the oil lamp in his left hand and put out the small flame. A second later a pair of yellow slit like eyes appeared behind him.

“You’re being sloppy.” The shadow said.

“I don’t want to hear that from you.” The disciple replied. “Have I not told you countless times to refrain from acting without my explicit permission?”

Though he spoke to an entity shrouded in the unsettling darkness, the strange disciple didn’t seem to have the slightest hint of fear in his voice. He kept his eyes forward, not bothering to face the shadow, his words carrying the distinct weight of authority.

When the shadow hesitated to give a reply a sigh escaped the disciple.

“I’m aware that you’ve lost most of your usefulness, however that doesn’t give you the right to disobey me.”

“…”

“That said, were you the one who brought him here?” The disciple’s eyes were on the unconscious young man. He was present when the intruder suddenly fell from above.

Though the ceiling was high it had no holes so no one knew how he arrived there. No one bothered to ask about the strange clothes he wore as well.

“I thought you’re no longer able to traverse into other worlds?”

“…”

“You’ve been a nuisance ever since I picked you up. Whether you accept it or not, I’m your master now. We will discuss your disobedience at a later time. As for him...” Reaching out for the lamp, the strange disciple reignited the small flame. “I’ll be sure to put him to use, since you bothered bringing him here.”

As the light filled the narrow tunnel, the darkness disappeared and so did the shadow.

The disciple stared at the young man for a few seconds. Unable to understand what his servant planned by bringing this stranger into their world, he covered his head once more and immediately went back to work.
