Beep... Beep...

"Shut the fuck up..." Shane mumbled, burying his head in the covers, trying to muffle out the annoying sound of the blaring alarm.

Unfortunately for him, the machine did not have ears... nor a soul for that matter, and therefore it did not listen to his plea, deciding instead to increase it's volume.

He let out a tired sigh, sticking his arm out from under the covers, patting around until he felt the off button, slamming it perhaps a little too strongly, causing the device to let out a sickening crack. But it's not like Shane cared, as long as he could sleep a little longer, he would have gladly thrown that cursed thing out of the window.

"Finally, some peace and quie-"

Knock! Knock! Knock!

"Brother wake up! We are gonna be late for school!" a female voice called from the other side of the door, making the teenager groan. He lifted his hand, checking the time on the watch he wore "It's 7:30 Angela... school starts at 9... let me sleep" he let out a loud yawn "I'm not a morning person like you" he could practically hear her roll her eyes from behind the door.

"It's always better to get to class early on the first day! Don't you know anything about good first impressions?! Get your ass inside the kitchen in five minutes or I'll drag it there!" she threatened childishly, running back to the kitchen.

'Why does my little sister have to be so bossy? Couldn't I get one of those delicate and shy ones? Those who respect their older brother?' he thought annoyed, reluctantly crawling out of bed.

The second he kicked the covers off, the cold air instantly hit him, making him shiver.

"God why are mornings so fucking cold?" he quickly stumbled towards his closet and put on a jacket, he didn't own any night gowns, they were dumb and made him look like an old man, so he just used his jackets instead, they'd serve their purpose well enough and were a hella lot more stylish.

He headed out of his room, eyes half-lidded and vision blurry. Luckily he didn't need to see in order to get to the kitchen, their house was fairly small and he had memorized it's layout ages ago. Just down the stairs and to the right and you were in the kitchen. All he had to do was not trip and painfully tumble down the stairs, possibly to his death.

He soon reached said room, seeing Angela eat a full plate of scrambled eggs while their father quietly drank coffee, checking the news on his phone.

"Where's mom?" Shane asked.

"She already left for work, don't worry, I packed you lunch" his father assured, not even bothering to take his eyes off the device to look at him. Shane just rolled his eyes and poured myself a large mug of coffee, he would need it.

He then snatched a few cookies out of the jar, mindlessly sinking them in the bitter beverage as he still awaited for his body completely wake up. When the treat reached his mouth, he really enjoyed the bitter-sweet mixture created by their fusion.

"Are you going to drive us to school today?" he asked as he munched on his breakfast, noticing that outside it was pretty cloudy and there was a good chance that it could rain.

"I can't, I have to go to work soon, besides, you're not a kid anymore, you can go by yourself" he answered back sternly, his gaze not leaving his phone.

"Angela is" Shane muttered under my breath, but was still heard by the old man, receiving a hard glare in response "Walk her to school then if you're that worried" he growled back angrily, standing up and heading towards the door, grabbing what he needed on his way out before leaving.

Shane sighed, shaking his head. He quickly finished his breakfast and put the dishes inside the sink, he would wash them when he'd come back from class "Come on Angy, go get your stuff ready"

"I'm already ready, you're the one who's still in your pajamas" she pointed out with her fork, and she was right "You know it takes me literally 5 minutes to get ready right?" he joked, she just giggled "Oh really? Why don't we put that to the test? Get ready, I'm keeping count of the time starting froooom... now!" she whipped her head around and started keeping a close eye on the  kitchen clock.

Well now, she challenged him. Shane could have told her that he was just joking. But he was never someone who would back down from a challenge, no matter how dumb or irrational it would be.

With a smile, he sprinted back towards his room, taking off his clothes and throwing on whatever he managed to get his hand on upon opening the closet.

The lottery ended up with a purplish long-sleeved shirt and a pair or ripped jeans, he threw on a pair of beat up sneaks as well, he couldn't go to school in his slippers now, could he? Although he wished to.

He then darted towards the bathroom, fixing his hair and putting on some deodorant, grabbing his backpack, which, from the weight, Shane guessed it probably contained only a few papers and maybe a pencil.

He then raced back inside the kitchen and hit the table hard with his hand as to click a button and stop the timer.

"Time!" he panted out "How did I do coach?"

"4:34, you kept true to your word, you could qualify for the fastest changing clothes Olympics" they both snickered "Let's get going, I'm sure you don't want to be late" Angela eagerly jumped off the chair and grabbed her colorful backpack, putting it on "I'm ready!"

Shane took the umbrella from the coat hanger and they both headed out, locking the door upon leaving.

'I'll definitely be late... not the best way to begin a new year' he thought, remembering that Angela's school was about 30 minutes away from his. It was currently 8:40, it will take them 10 minutes to get to her's by foot, so... yeah.

The two siblings went to different schools of course, her being 10 and him being 16.

Everyone would think that at least their mom or dad would accompany their youngest child to school on their first day, but not theirs, nope.

Their mother was a bank investor agent and basically lived in her office, same goes for the father, but while their mother spends all her time working, he prefers hanging out at local bars once his shifts ended. He's not an aggressive father, nor an alcoholic, he just likes to drink to the point where he forged that he even has a family to begin with, coming back home drunk and passing out on the couch.

Shane had to learn how to cook baby food and change diapers at the age of 7 because neither his mom or dad would be there to take care of Angela when she was little.

It wasn't like this before though, even though they were vague, Shane remembered that they used to spend as much time as they could together at home, playing with him.

But they became shit parents as soon as Angela was born. In the family, they all have dark brown hair and eyes, while she had blond hair and green eyes, it was more than clear that she wasn't dad's child, they even did a DNA test.

They decided to stay together for Shane's sake. His mother wanted to give her up for adoption, but from the moment the little boy held her in his arms for the first time, he felt an unconditional and explainable love towards that small creature, and he wanted to protect it with all his strength.

And that's how they came to today's situation, Angela had gotten used to almost never see her mom or dad, Shane was pretty sad when he thought that in all the drawings she used to make, she would write 'Big dadda' beside him and 'Tall lady, Tall sir' next to their parents. He basically became her parental figure, and still is to this day. He tries his best to make her happy, but it's not an easy task when you're a teenager.

A drop of rain falling on his nose brought Shane back to reality.

"It's starting to rain" she pointed out. He sighed, taking the umbrella and opening it, protecting both of them until they reached her school.

"Keep the umbrella, it looks like it's gonna keep raining for a while"

"But won't you get wet on your way to school?" he shrugged "My jacked is waterproof, besides, you finish before me, can you go home by yourself or do you want me to come pick you up?" she shook her head "I'm not a kid anymore! I'm a big girl!" he chuckled, ruffling her hair a bit "Don't! I just brushed them nicely!" she pouted.

"See ya home then little bunny" she waved at him "Bye big bear!" and then ran inside, a big smile on her face.

Shane, on the other hand, pulled up his hood and started walking again, his expression soon falling.

'Fuck... my jacked isn't waterproof, and the rain it's really starting to come down now...' he let out a frustrated chuckle.

"Arriving late and drenched to the bone on the first day of school, could it get any worse?"
