Chapter 9

The same tranquil atmosphere and night, a scene Wei Long had gotten used to after a few years of night shift. His partner, Cai Mo, was across from him, reorganizing the cards on the table as he yawned. The dozens of monitors on their side were ignored, functioning on their lonesome for in the history of this building, almost no one would dare to make a mess or trespass illegally.

There were hardly any valuable properties for those who wanted to barge in. Not to mention, this was the nest of ready-battle veterans with an armory full of weapons to boot. Not to mention the supers stationed in this place, watching like hawks and crouching in the dark like a hunting cheetah.

A suicidal mission, that what it was.

Although this place indeed held all of the important documents that might even be priceless if you knew their value, raiding this place was nonsensical.

Something Wei Long would have to rethink for the very first time, a loud noise blaring out. Surprising the hell out of him and his partner as they scrambled to check what had happened.

It was a signal from the Guardian responsible for tonight's security. Messages of multiple intruders had infiltrated the building shocked both of them silly. Not to mention, the Guardian said they were all ordinary citizens, none of the detection devices showed that they were supers.

"What's going on!?" Wei Long cried out, rushing to the monitors and watched how a group of men holding makeshift weapons like crowbars, iron pipes, and so on broke through the main doors of the building, where they would be greeted with the officers in the area and their stun guns.

On the other hand, a young man and woman, who looked no older than in their early twenties, were burning the cars parked in front. On their hand were alcohol bottles and a match as they ran around with the widest grin on their faces.

The sight makes no sense to Wei Long and in his trance, a figure flashed before them and stopped on their track. It was a Guardian who specialized in combat. As Wei Long was about to glue his eyes on the screen, another message appeared once more.

It told him that there was another intruder who managed to sneak into the premises, sneaking amidst the chaos and one of the guardians had been dispatched to the place.

….

As he slowly put down a man in a police uniform, Yunzheng rummaged through his body and finally found a card with the man's name and picture. Everything went well, just like what he had planned. Except for the fact that things now use automatic logs, where one has to swipe with an identity card, Yunzheng managed to come to the hallways with many rooms on the sides.

Fortunately, he stumbled upon a long officer who was on his way to the main entrance after a short briefing of how the situation had unfolded. A simple hypnotizing technique and the man spilled all the beans and if there's no tomorrow. With an explained layout of the facility in his head, Yunzheng now knew where to go.

It wouldn't take him long, just a jiffy with new-found strength. Brimming with energy, he crossed tens of meters every step. If not for the turns, he would have already arrived at his destination by now.

And when he was about to get into his sixth turn, someone stood in the middle of the hallway. The garments were easy going, only a sweater on top, T-shirt, and brown shorts. Something you would wear in your own house, an out of place sight when everyone was wearing uniforms.

It made Yunzheng skit to a halt and observe that man carefully. His senses already nagged at him, telling him that the person was anything but ordinary and Yunzheng knew better than to ignore his instinct.

A clean, fast strike. That was what he aimed for and Yunzheng moved before the other party could even open his mouth. Palm stretched out and energy was gathering into it. Everything around him slowed down considerably and he could see that he was much faster than before. Yet, his hand connected to empty air as his opponent stepped to the side with widened eyes.

"The hell! So you are a sup-"

Not waiting for the man to finish his speech, Yunzheng followed up with another strike. This time, he guided his energy and properly used a technique. Giving his opponent a surprise for he unleashes five blows faster than what he could react.

Reeling in pain and disbelief, the man stepped backwards and hit the wall. All of his limbs went numb and the spots Yunzheng struck were aching greatly. When the man glanced at Yunzheng, the latter was already rushed to deliver the final blow. One that would be nonlethal but taking away the opponent's consciousness.

Yunzheng's fist which almost reached the man's nose, suddenly halted midair and trembled nonstop. Yunzheng himself tried to move his body but felt invisible chains binding all of his joints and stripping his strength away. As he wondered in shock, a voice echoed to both of their minds.

"I thought my power was playing tricks on me. However, it was good to make sure of things yourself."

The man wearing sweaters turned his head and saw the approaching figure in the distance, who wore a purple suit and green necktie. A mask of half black and white was strapped on his face as he arrived at Yunzheng's side.

"There's no trace of psionic energy on you. Yet, you almost knocked Bei Wu off of his rockers. Ain't you a real sight?" the person chuckled, reaching out his hand and placing it on Yunzheng's head. Before long, Yunzheng felt something entering his mind. Numbing his senses whilst his vision faded and the person's voice drifted at the edge of his ears.

"Relax… it will all be over soon."
